You obviously know a lot about barbecue I would like to offer some constructive points re beginners! What does dial in your vents mean - for example The last review was the most helpful because you told us how it worked Next on my wish list would have been what one does to set and keep the temp steady and finally how the particular smoker is set up first time, seasoned etc and again the steps involved in using same Thanks for the suggestions I will indeed look into your suggestions Learning is a journey in any case Thanks G Comment from : AGabriel Hegarty (Gaby) |

Ive heard alot of good stuff about the Horizon offset smoker Id be willing to spend the $1000+ on one as they seem to be quite well built with a decent thickness of metal However the shipping cost just ruins that idea for me Ive finally found a used one in good shape on marketplace and I think I am going to pull the trigger I am an offset kind of guy, and I have never seen a store bought offset available that is of the same quality Wish me luck! Some BBQ creators are polygamous with 23 smokers at any given moment I'm more of a serial monogamist I've had a Weber Kettle, a WSM, two different offset smokers one a reverse flow Oklahoma Joe All of them made great q I just don't have room for many smokers, so I have one at a time Also, when we move we don't want to put a smoker in the moving van which would make everything smell like smokebrbrWhich puts me in my new home without a smoker And that led me to my latest smoker love A Masterbuilt Gravity 800 It is as easy to use as a pellet smoker, and it does a great job I'm still getting used to it, but so far its awesome! I'm surprised a Masterbuilt Gravity smoker didn't make your list Comment from : Sourdough Home |
Love your channel, i have 1 requestcould you please in the about section, list the names ( w/links?) Of items your testing in that video? From smokers, butcher paper, or mail order meat It would be nice to have as a reference Thank you and smoke on! Comment from : JOE D |

I've cooked on the same 18" Old Smokey for the last 35 years I live in a rural area, so used pits arent plentiful around here So If I was gonna go with a used WSM or a new Pit Barrel, what would you suggest? Also how do regular drum smokers compare to the Pit Barrel Smoker? Comment from : Dreamy Buys |
does smoking with charcoal cause carcinogens on the meat that can expedite cancer? what about smoking with wood only? any ways to reduce these health issues in the cooking process or techniques? Thanks! Comment from : Lorin Chak |
Some people make Championship results with cheap smokers, if the know what to do It is the pitmaster, not the pit You forgot the WSM, but nice video Comment from : roberto rosselini |
After struggling with a "offset" CharGriller for the last 8 years I just bought a WSM yesterday mostly because of this video and Harry Soo So pumped to try my first rack of ribs this weekend Comment from : scott yarnell |
Ok, will someone indulge my probably stupid question? How do you get clean smoke on a WSM? It seems like you're to use some sort of sequential charcoal burn w/ a few wood chunks added Plus fiddling w/ vents to control airflow That to this beginner seems like a recipe for dirty smoke I know I'm missing something as the WSM has so many devoted users Thanks Comment from : joseph |
This is a very good video! I actually pay a little bit more money for a smoker and I just couldn't get it to work out right for me I started watching a few videos and saw a number a guy's on YouTube using a Weber kettle So I began looking around for one and since I had just invested in a smoker I didn't want to really spend a whole lot, I ended up finding a second-hand one for just $30 on letgo and it came with a bag of charcoal and a charcoal chimney! It is worked out tremendously for us and just produce some wonderful Smoky flavor and some different experiments that I have been blessed to try out! I would definitely recommend a Weber kettle to anybody and look up Malcolm and rye on on YouTube to check out some good videos on smoking in the Weber kettle! Comment from : John Otto |

As a dad with 3 young kids I love my pellet smoker I have 2 pit boss smokers and I will say that there are some things you really need to watch for on pellet smokers We like to cook all winter long but if you get water in your pellets you are done You have to pull the whole smoker apart to get it fixed I have the older 700 which is now called the classic or something and I have a vertical one the Brunswick platinum I love both for different reasons but the vertical cannot keep water out of the pellets I have to basically smoke inside my garage which is a pain brbrI really want to get an offset but I just don't know if I will have enough time to use it I keep trying to talk my wife into starting a bbq restaurant or food truck Comment from : GamerGeek |

What is it about an offset that makes the best why can’t you get the same results from the weber smoky mountains or a weber Weber kettle Comment from : Daniel Mybrother |
If I get one as my first, should I go with the Pecos or Weber Smokey Mountain? The Weber seems like it would be so much easier, but the whole idea of managing fire kind of interests me, and from what I hear produces better results Any thoughts? I mostly want to do Briskets, with the occasional Pork Butt I'm just worried about the heat retention on the Pecos because of the thickness of the steel, worried that it would eat too much wood Comment from : Nikko Wood |

Good budget option to the komado Joe is the char griller akorn It's more efficient than my Weber for long smokes and it isn't made of ceramic so I can move it easily and if it tips over it's not going to shatter Wife got me one for Xmas and I did a pork butt first thing and it was much easier to manage than my kettle and turned out great Still use the Weber just because I like it but now my low and slows are all on the akorn Comment from : Shane Kahrs |
