In this video, Becky Stirrup makes the point that designing a “blended learning” lesson using the principles of “good game design” will increase student engagement and achievement Because so many students play games, this is a chance to meet them at their level of interest, while still maintaining curricular integrity Blended learning can be defined as a lesson designed using both online content and elements of traditional classroom practices Stirrup points out that if you build a strong narrative around a design, students are motivated to practice the skills in order to reach the end, or goal, of the narrative She provides specific details about projects that were designed, and as a result, reports that those who participated in playful learning had 43 better results on assessments, as opposed to the 3 gain of the students who were taught using only traditional learning styles Stirrup is inspirational, and a leader in this adaptive way of approaching teaching It is imperative that educators learn how to design challenging, educational blended learning environments to meet the needs of 21st Century students Comment from : Alexis Coleman |
