Just landed my first job as a self taught programmer Funny enough it was with a company that rejected me in a final round I emailed that company 4 months later telling them I loved the project and I really enjoyed their team A week after that email I got a call and an offer letter in my email It’s been a 6 year dream with 9 months of applying Never give up, and don’t forget to email the companies back! They love the initiative Comment from : Garrett Rose |

honestly this industry is hyper-competitive in 2022 leading into 2023 perhaps landing some entry level jobs is possible for newcomers but most people have to grind through many interview stages at many companies to land the good gigs after working in this industry for 12+ years I can't recommend it without a slight sense of shame because for the most part it's a job where you work unpaid overtime, spend a large part of that fixing legacy code, while trendy product managers work normal hours and expect you to do all the heavy lifting when it comes to the crunch it might seem like a great gig if looking at social media, but most real-world software engineering jobs are glorified virtual assembly workers Comment from : El Capitan |

I've been thinking about doing this but I am 41 and here in the US there is a low key ageism I had experience with c++ and a little bit of python when I was working as a Calibration tech (14yrs ago), we used to automate some of the tasks which I felt bad bcoz some people got laid off Now I am working as a tester and most of what we test are hardware, and the closes thing in programming is updating the controller's ini file if it needs adjustment or correction Good luck to everyone and wishing everyone a prosperous 2023 and beyond! it sounds weird to me that he didn't mention algorithms as fundamentals, as I got an interview with a tec company, I failed the algo interview and they say if I pass it the job will be mine, they give full training and no portfolio required Comment from : blackspitit |

No company in their right mind will tell you how you could have improved if you got passed over for another candidate out of fear of law suits You will be lucky if they don't even ghost you Comment from : Showing Software Bugs |

Stef is the man and best teacher around! I went back to college for about a year to learn Python and the last 4 months I have been in his web stack online course I am a musician and in a career change I just landed my first web development job and it is because of Stefan, his online mentorship course, and his YouTube videos I am 36 and have been studying programming the last year and a half If I can do it, anyone can Comment from : Brant Buckley Music |

Unrelated question: Did you fear boxing and the blows to your head would negatively effect your coding career? Comment from : Pascal Thomasse |
|
Stefan, is it a good idea to put what programming languages and tools we use on our tech startup website? Would clients care about that? We work with data science and machine learning I often think coding is easier than finding what (great) content to put on the website Comment from : Goktug Erol |

I wish I had watched this vid before my last interview :)brSo i have good backend skills but not so good on html side of things Last interview, they required me to fetch data from an api using ajax, convert it to json and apply that data to HTML table in 30 minutes I did it, but it took me 30 minutes literallybrbrI found out that the solution was quite simple and I could have done it in 5 minutes if I was prepared But I was not ready for any question regarding Ajax Should have been more preparedbrThanks for vid, I sincerely hope to get away from this horrible job and start my career on anything with coding Comment from : Hakkology |
|
Thanks again, Uncle Stef This kind of knowledge and preparation is sound advice, even in good times, but it's crucial with what's going on today Comment from : Red Pill Satori |
