@marcoflorio6772
personally when I travel to Italy I learned to always use the bus, they are cheaper, some, like "marine" they have leather armchairs, adjustable seat, good air conditioning, wifi, bathroom, shelf to put stuff , and above all the ticket is refundable and if you don't leave you can change the date whenever you want indefinitely The only downside is that they take longer

@CashflowKris
Hi Mark, thanks for all the great info What's your thoughts on the eurail pass? I have a family or four and will be in London, Amsterdam, Germany (city TBD), Luxembourg, Paris Is that the best option if we want to stay semi flexible? Much appreciated

All I did was applying for a job at our national railway company Got the job and thanks to that I save quite a lot on European train travel thanks to FIP coupons and the FIP reduced rate card :)

Eurail pass (for non European citizens) and Interrail pass (for European citizens) is great when you wanna train travel in Europe From what I can tell, they work the same way - only seems to be a price difference from what i can tellbrBoth passes can be bought as global (can travel between 31 of the European countries as of now) or one country only (exists for 27 countries as of now), and you can chose how many travel days you want and for how long it will be validbrI've personally used Interrail and found it really easy to use, and even though it costs a bit, it's at least cheaper than if I would have bought all the tickets separatelybrbrOf course how worth it is to get, depends on how much you will travel during a day, and how long the distances are - if you're only travelling short distances on regional trains it can be cheaper to not use a pass
Comment from : @fiforsberg6713

@BChris336
Flixbus have a huge network of European destinations and is usually much cheaper I use them rather than expensive trains whenever possible wwwflixbuscouk/bus-routes#!#2Fmap

Comment from : @robmiranda7120

@Iamwatchingyou75
If your goal is to travel by train all across Europe I'd highly reconmend Interrail for the long streches instead of checking the pricesystem of each and every country
Comment from : @Iamwatchingyou75

@sunspot42
Be careful about “saving money” by flying Planes may look like a cheaper (and faster) option, but before booking a flight make certain you research how much it will cost to get from your hotel to the airport and how long it will take Also, consider the time of day you’re flying, day of the week, what security lines will be like, the odds of the flight being delayed, and how much you might have to spend on food and drink at the airport (especially in the event of a long delay) And as the video mentions, trains generally come with a much larger luggage allowance than planes If you’re traveling with baggage, you need to price that in as well brbrRemember to also consider the time and the cost of traveling from the airport to your hotel at the destination brbrAll things considered, you may find that the train isn’t more expensive than the plane, can actually take less time overall, and that the train stations are much more conveniently located than the airports In the end even if the planes add up slightly cheaper, it’s almost never worth the hassle unless you’re on a really tight budget

@hlynnkeith9334
The Japanese Shinkansen is very expensive My wife and I traveled to Japan Afterward, I totaled up our receipts and found that train fare accounted for 60 of all our expenses including lodging, meals, shopping, and travel to and from Japan
Comment from : @hlynnkeith9334

@NewGoldStandard
Great advice herebrI completely agree about looking at budget airlines for a cheaper option, but you're also right about missing out on the train ride experience My personal tip: the short trip between Milano north through the Alps to Berne is one of the most scenic (but not charged-up as being scenic, it's just a regular route) rides I've had in Europe
Comment from : @NewGoldStandard

@ThisWayUpTravel
Great tips! Also another tip when booking trains in a foreign language and in a small town where they might not speak English, , write it down in the local language !

@hughrose1534
In France, when using the TER (regional) trains, you can often buy a group ticket if you have a family or are traveling in a group and that saves you a significant amount than say buying 4-5 tickets individually 🇫🇷brbrThe reason why Swiss trains are expensive is because practically everyone has a reduction card When you buy tickets, the first thing they ask you is 'Do you have a reduction card?' Having said that, SBB (Swiss train network) is wonderful🇨🇭

@anthonylamesa7619
A few thoughts for your viewers: brbrBook tickets directly with national rail operators or private rail companies (ie the actual train operators) and never use RailEurope(dot)com, which is almost always a lot more expensive, but designed to appeal to non-EuropeansbrbrMake sure to consult Seat61(dot)com for cross-border train travel booking tips, because sometimes you can be charged more or less depending on the national rail service with which you book the ticket (ie a journey from France to Germany or Switzerland to Italy)brbrLoco2(dot)com is generally a fairly reliable way to book cross-border train travel, but sometimes it can still be cheaper to book with a specific national rail operator (ie Seat61 tricks!) brbrFor Italy, don't forget to comparison shop with Italo (the private high-speed train operator) for high-speed train travelbrbrAlso, it's now even possible to use a regional day ticket to get between Munich and Vienna (huge savings for a family or small group): twittercom/CapotrenoEd/status/1107269198529654784

Comment from : @magma1lord

@pandabird
Another tip: travel on a weekday I notice that Sunday tickets are usually more expensive than other days of the week
Comment from : @pandabird

@hansmuller1846
(For Germany, might apply to others too):brBuy the longer distances way in advance (eg north to south Germany, anything longer than 150km), they are 30€ a ticket (called Sparpreis / Supersparpreis)brFor shorter distances you can be very spontaneous, very often there are day tickets for regions of Germany (of course big cities, also Baveria, Saar/Rhineland, Brandenburg, ), which are often federal states Regional tickets won't be discounted in advance, so you can decide day by daybrMark already said a lot of this, hope this makes it more clear
Comment from : @hansmuller1846

@stevebartley8594

If you plan to do a LOT of train travel, especially in Western Europe, consider Interrail or Eurail Interrail is cheaper, but only available to EU citizens (not sure about UK citizens if Brexit goes through) Also steep discounts for 26 years old or under There are many packages to choose from

Comment from : @26Bluegb

@KartoffelHundin
I was an exchange student in Cologne and travelled in a group using the Schones Wochendes ticket to go to Oktoberfest 30 people, 14 hours there, 13 hours back, but it only cost each of us 8 Euro each way And I found a 20 Euro banknote on top of a bag of trash so it ended up being free for me!

@GravityFromAbove
More train tips: Make sure you compare city to city tickets before you get a country pass But if you do get a country pass that covers 3 or four countries on a flexipass (ie 4, 5 or 6 days in a month) add a cheaper country to the more expensive ones to bring down the overall average I was recently passing from Switzerland to Germany (both expensive) on my way to the Czech Republic (I'm Not saying Czechia it's just a marketing term the Czechs don't use) By including the CR on my pass it brought the average down and saved me over a hundred on the longer Germany runs Also France which does have barely advertised cheaper slower trains, also now has a very inexpensive official bus line called Ouibus You can save a lot by bus in France and the buses are pretty comfortable and usually not as full as the trains
Comment from : @GravityFromAbove

@jackaylward-williams9064
I took the Regional DB for the first time last month and I was amazed at how inexpensive the tickets were It was just me and my mum, so we were effectively paying €20 each for the 5 person ticket, but that was still good going considering that it covered us for the train from Koln to Aachen and the bus from the Hauptbahnhof to the Dutch border I’m also planning to get The Eurostar to Brussels at Easter
Comment from : @jackaylward-williams9064
