We had a really unpleasant experience at Baisakih temple As we were walking towards the temple a group of local goons threatened us we won't be allowed beyond that point unless we take one of their guides We were warned about such scam by our home stay owner cum the driver who drove us to the temple We were a group of 6 womenThey wanted to charge us exorbitant amount for the guide We kept walking towards the temple but two of the gang members walked ahead of us and literally guarded the main door so we could not enter the temple We just walked around the temple cause that is all we could do It is so sad we were bullied even in the house of Gods That was in 2017 I guess it hasn't changed Why can't local Government do something to stop this bullying practise It is harassment and paints really unpleasant picture of Bali Here is my honest opinionlocal Government and Temple administration is hands in gloves with these extorters I am 100 percent sure they get their cuts from these bullies Shame on them Comment from : Indra Gurung

I didn't use a single money changer on our last few Bali trips Just bring along a bank card and credit card Use the credit card at reputable stores and restaurants Use your banking card at banks or cash machines of reputable banks to take out rupiah There are always safe ones near markets (eg grocery stores) You can go to a bank onsite at Denpasar airport and take out rupiah before you leave to catch your ride I had about $100 Aus on me just in case that I never once had to use Comment from : J Schap 17

I read about the scam before we left for Bali Walked into a 7/11 type store which we thought might be legit Saw the signs early One guy was behind the counter The other was standing next to us chatting trying to distract us He asked "first time to Bali?" We said we'd been there heaps of times We lied and they obviously saw straight through us Guy behind the counter asked us to count the money We did Wanted us to put it back on the counter I protested (what was the point, it was correct) He insisted I put it on the counter while old mate was still trying to distract us He went to take the money and do his slight of hand trick and I said leave it on the counter He put it back He tried it again I blew up at him and told him to give my Australian money back I counted it and left in a huff As I turned back, the expression on their faces were 'you win some, you lose some' Not a care in the world We definitely would have fallen for the scam had we not been alert to it Comment from : Joel
