Brother and dad both served Dad was career, brother got out after six years in the Marines but later rejoined the National Guard Both of them got really sick of being thanked for their service Anyone that gets offended over it is the kind of person that'll make their short military service their whole identity for the rest of their life, no matter what they did

I'm a Navy veteran and also find the trite, contrived, and socially-compelled "thank you for your service" to be very WEIRD It's awkward What do I say back? I've never really found the "right" reply So, I usually just say "thank you" back But it doesn't feel rightbrbrI think I'd prefer that they borrow from "Seinfeld's" alternative reply to a sneeze: "You're SO good looking!"brbrI wear my ship's ball cap a lot Because I like the hat People feel compelled to say, "Thank you for your service," assuming that I must be a veteran A few times, I've actually said, "I just like the hat" LOL!
