The thing about the hors d'oeuvres plates is not truebrThe original Neapolitain pizza was not a pie - very thick dough with topping(tomato!) baked in a square dishbrPasta asciuta is an hors d'oeuvrebrWe work very long days so the "siesta" is a necessary break - even in Milan when I worked therebrStarbucks make the world's worst coffee - why would Italians want it?brWhy would you want a spoon to eat pasta? Comment from : Adrian Stern |

if you want you can aks to cut your pizzait's not a problem I don't know in Rome, but it's quite common it's not something offensive, the scarpetta is much more "rude" for the etiquette you shouldn't do the scarpetta, but if you do it it's not a problem at all, but it's not classybut it's sooo goood!!! XDD and if you want a wine or a coke with pizza no one makes a problem! I don't know if romans are so severe , but where I live I always order wine or coke with pizza! Comment from : Mina_Ophelia |

I’m Italian, i live in Sicily and yes, we do the “scarpetta” 🎉 but not in every case ☹️ we use to do it only when we are in some types of restaurant… yes we have different type of restaurant… “ristorante” (the classic) or “trattoria” it is like a normal restaurant but most of the time “”less chic”” and usually more cheap… so, when we are in a restaurant a little bit chic (like for an event, or a party, ecc…) we never, NEVER do the “scarpetta thing” (it’s simply a matter of elegance and Bon Ton) BUT, when we are in a “trattoria”, or at home with friends, or in any case in a situation more “casual” and friendly, we do the scarpetta!!! I'm from Sardinia and we know and do scarpetta since childwood Never thought was a Rome thing :)brTrue, shops are closed at lunch time in Italy (now I live in UK and it really seems incredible to me how I used to go out at 5 pm as the shops were opening again after lunch break and here at 5 everything is shutting down) But for Sardinia and I think also most of the south, if you went there in the summer is just normal, people don't go out of their homes in the heat At 2 pm in my region, in summer could be 40 degrees It's just because you don't want to die xD lol Comment from : Valeria Ornano |
Nice job Not a problem with us any more, but being on time in Italy, is not a thing So when you visit, learn to go with the Italian concept of time , and just chillbr😊 Comment from : John Connery |

So, with the latte thing, if you want to order a latte (the coffe drink most people imagine under the name latte) does it have like its specific name or something or do Italians simply not know that? JUst curious about that Comment from : Rox |
Funny thing, I'm actually used to doing the thing with bread (scarpetta as Italians call it) every time I eat a meal with bread (non Italian here btw) Comment from : Rox |

I was taught scarpetto as a child I'm American of Italian heritage When I came to Florida, I learned that southerners also like scarpetto They call it "sopping" and typically use cornbread brI love scarpetto and believe that it's a sin to leave delicious sauce behind on the plate Buon appetito a tutti! Actually in italy proper etiquette says you must not use a spoon or cut spaghetti (or in general every long pasta), but I guess in the godfather the characters weren't exactly "proper etiquette" Comment from : Athos401 |

e comune in tutta italia fare la scarpetta Comment from : Rosalia Lopez |
12:16 this is totally unreal That waiters must have been unpolite and only wanted to mess up with you brIf you ask, they’ll do it brI think the reason why they bring it at the table without any cuts is to maintain as much as possible the right consistent, that’s it brFew days ago, I went to a pizzeria and I couldn’t really use my right hand, so I asked my boyfriend to cut my pizza too, and the waiter saw it and suddenly told me he could make the cut in few seconds brThat was just nice 👍🏻 Comment from : Sim0naSama |
scarpetta es normal en Argentina, mojar el pancito, not only at the end, during a meal is accepted too Also riposo is normal, la siesta, la hora de la siesta is normal outside of Buenos Aires city Here bar is like Italy, bar is a coffee o aperitivo place, you can have pastry or appetizers o quick meals, order milk in a bar is weird here too, pasta of course here we eat it only with fork normally, may be in "elite" restaurants give you spoons Pizza here comes cut in slices normally, and you can eat it with the beverage of your preference We've got a predominant mix of Spanish and Italian culture, and others migrants, Cheers from Buenos Aires! Comment from : Candela Arq |
7:34 is not riposo is abbiocco, but for worker isn't possible Comment from : A A R R E A S C S C S S C |

Well, I am Italian and you are telling a lot of bullshitsbr1 Waiters usually ask if they can bring pasta to somebody while the others are having appetizers By the way I really never saw calamari fritti as appetizersbr2 Pizza romana does not exist There is pizza and pizza napoletana which is actually thicker You should not be allowed to eat pizza any longer if you really eat pizza with pineapple You are a criminalbrBy the way, is Espòsito and not Esposíto Ignorante! And he "invented" pizza Margherita for our Queen Margherita Pizza is known from 2k years at leastbr3 Doing scarpetta is absolutely normal all over Italy due to the high level of plates I can understand if you do not feel the need to do it at homebr4 OkLet's go on with stereotypes like "pasta, pizza and mandolino"br5 Only children and old people are having pisolino or pennichella (and not riposo) The others are usually back to workbr6 Probably you do not have bar because your coffee is horrible and you do not need a special place to enjoy itbr7 Starback does exist in Italy, but nobody felt the need to drink such a "brodaglia"Service charge is due only if the waiter brings you the coffee If you bring it to the table on your own, you do not have to pay nothing at all!br8What the hell do you think you are going to get by ordering a latte if not a latte?!?! You' d better study ItalianThanks God we are not enjoying any vanilla latte in Italywe leave it all to you!!!br9 Once again you' are wrong Old people expecially in South Italy, usually eat spaghetti with spoon AND fork By the way, the Italians that emigrated in USA represented in "those" movies are actually from South Italybr10 Are you a child that you are not able to cut your pizza?!?!brYou can enjoy wine with pizza of course, but the taste is horribleBetter beer or cokebrHonestly speaking, you'd better to actually investigate more about Italy and Italians before talking about us Thanks Comment from : Monica Magherini |
Milan is a misterious place even for other italians Many people think we are unfriendly business oriented moron, but we are italians to the bones however we don't show it You have to long know a Milanese to catch some of the italian most known beaviors So you'll never watch a milanese makeing scarpetta on purpose, in a formal ambience or in a high class restaurant, but in a friendly background everybody will leave the dishes clean as they were already been washed Comment from : Ricky Gallo |
La scarpetta is common to all Italy, even Milano 😊 Comment from : francesco palanza |
Scarpetta isbrNormal in Lombardy Comment from : alessandro lancini |
Scarpetta is everywhere Comment from : Sebastiano Zunino |
You can actually have wine with pizza but it's unusual and it's mainly because they don't really go very well together while pizza and beer are simply PERFECT together :D Comment from : Michele De Pascalis |
Ehmthe "scarpetta" is something acceptable only in informal situations, with your friends or family and in "informal" places For instance, you should not do it ever during a business lunch or in a fancy restaurant Comment from : Silvia C |
so i live in ferrara (Emilia-Romagna) and there is no starbucksbri usually go to a supermarket like "eurospar" to get a mini frappuccino that is actually from starbucks, i still don't get why we don't have starbucks lol Comment from : Itz_heremiii Flower |
In Milan there is Starbucks Comment from : ShinraShiro |
we do Scarpetta in Sardegna too Comment from : Dort90xxx |
1"latte" in italian means milk, (starbucks should apologize for the misunderstandings that causes, for example "VENTI", wich is the largest measure you can order at starbucks means "20" in italian and "GRANDE" means "large") so in Italy you should ask for a "caffélatte", insteadbr2 the italian bar is often a cocktail bar toobr3 we usually drink beer, water or other drinks like coca cola, with pizza that's beacuse most italians consider pizza like a fast food (although it's made a little better) or something you eat at partys and we don't go to high level restaurants to eat pizza but the most important thing to me is that pizza must be eaten with hands (if you're not eating a very expensive one) Comment from : padre onnipotente |
The "scarpetta" it's valid for all region in Italy :D Comment from : crepuscolo80 |
We don't eat pasta in our italian dinner, only at lunch! ;)brI'm from Napoli, we eat pasta every single day at lunch but never at dinner Usually we eat pizza once a weekbrAnd, of course, God bless scarpetta Comment from : Vincenzo Padovani |
About “scarpetta”: at home you can do it, but at the restaurant it is impolite About the spaghetti( only with spaghetti and not with maccheroni) and the spoon, use the spoon is impolite, but someone can eat spaghetti only with spoon, you can ask one at the restaurant, there’s a civil war about this, also in the same family😅 Comment from : Desy Cherrystar |
For italians is not a shok to take the milk, why are uou saing so many false things? Comment from : Valerius Magni |
We eat pasta everyday but fir lunch not dinner Comment from : Valerius Magni |
there was some in milan but starbuck in italy is mostly a fail idea, for any sweet you gi into a pasticceria and any cafè is better in any bar so no point in open any of itbrbrfrankly speaking this of the spoon is a dumb thing, in my family when we eat spaghetti we use the spoon; is faster and easier especially if you are hungry But there is some canon done by idk who which should dicttate to not go figurebrbrwine usually is taken with meat or fish; not with pasta or pizza Usually with pizza you take any non alchool drink or a beer but the beer part is due more germanic influence i think Because you dont take beer with fish or meat usually well i'd take some fructate wine always since i dont like beer at all Comment from : alberto alderighi |
Dunking bread Love it Comment from : Rob and Sophie |
The spoon is used to eat spaghetti usually by kids that can't eat spaghetti only with the fork Comment from : Davide Menegon |
scarpetta is used everywhere, and you have to try pizza al padellino from Torino Comment from : Michele Biolè |
One of my first trips to Italy I ordered Penne All'Arrabiata and asked for Parmesan Cheese and they refused to bring it to me My Italian friend said it doesn't go with spicy sauces Comment from : Rick Spears |
