Hi Professional Film and Video Editor here - been in the TV business (with a couple of feature films to boot) for 25 years I have been on your journey and to get anywhere you have to be bloody minded, determined and take on jobs you don't like (initially) I am in it because I love it Saying that - cutting offline documentary for Broadcast on the major channels in the UK my agent pays me around £1500 per week (£2300 $Can) - they charge my clients 15 on top of that I am freelance - which means my diary constantly has gaps where I don't get paid, but the demand for content is bigger than it has ever been My advice is to go to film school if you can - but if you can't and you want to edit for TV OR Film - then get your hands on AVID and learn ALL of the shortcuts Don't copy TV, watch experimental stuff, learn to be creative - embrace your craft! I love premiere - but the brutal truth is that AVID is seen as the "professional" software and I never see it used outside of creative agencies and corporates It's a hard path - but it IS a rewarding career IMO Good luck!
