If I spent $5 on an ounce of silver in the 90s, I could trade it right now for $20 Fiat If you factor in inflation my $20 Fiat is possibly only worth the $5 Fiat that I paid for the ounce of silver initially So there's that Comment from : Donald Guillemette |

Worth? They are worth what someone will pay for them There is a sucker born every minute ASE are worth ONE Dollar They are worth the price of ONE ounce of Silver There true value is Silver spot on any given day Most are not rare and never will be Thus they are basically a one ounce silver slug I would not pay extra premium over a generic silver round Heck you can buy generic commemorative US $5 gold at basically 2 premium over spot gold Why would you pay a 20 premium over spot for an ASE Comment from : Ken Kaufman |

Your hypothetical scenario is highly self serving and ignores the relationship between confidence in an asset and perceived value brBelieving 'You can lose currency in silver but not money' borders on religious zealotry, but isn't an uncommon belief in the communitybrWe buy, sell, and trade in currency Very little is going to change that aside from an utter collapse of society and/or a zombie apocalypse Comment from : jakeizlove |

I stack silver and I buy it as cheaply as I can Eagles carry a steep premium and you are unlikely to get most of it back Now I do have a handful of coins, vice rounds, that I bought because I like them But that is not part of my stack Those are just things I have picked up because I enjoy them That's called a "hobby" Stacking silver is "investing" Comment from : jec1ny |
If I were to get into silver again I'd focus on rare coins, semi numismatic or mint state coins Id focus on old American coins, old coins from British India or old European coins I'd do a lot of research, buy different coin catalogues I'd refrain from buying perfect mint stated coins like MS 70 MS 69 OR MS 68 are just as good and not a lot of people can really tell the difference between them and MS 70 Comment from : gold maple |
Silver is a loss leader if you are buying Eagles They are generic and have not really changed in design Instead I'd say buy semi numismatic coins like the Australian Perth Mint Koalas, Kookaburas and Lunar Series, coins who design changes every year This adds to the collectibity and marketability of your silver, as certain years are hard to get and fewer sellers in the market for those coins That's how you make money from silver Comment from : gold maple |
Silver is silver When you buy American Eagles, there will be a higher premium charged to you compared with silver rounds because they are more popular and in higher demand However when you sell it will be at the going price for silver per ounce what it is So you can either make a slight profit or loss More often you will make a loss because silver falls more than it rises Comment from : gold maple |
The Eagles are bullion and that's all they are just recognizable bouillon not worth the premium Comment from : uawsux |

I believe the question comes down to not which silver piece is more valuable, but instead, which silver can I get my money out of quickly, when need be The simple answer (here in the States) is of course the American Silver Eagle Rounds are nice, and numismatic & semi-numismatic coins are pretty, but there always ONE form of FAST conversion, the great ASE Comment from : Victor Frankenstein |
Thank you for sharing 👍 Comment from : David Carlisle |
I collect eagles over generic for the simple reason around here you get $1 over spot for eagles and $1 under spot for generic So I load up when the good eagle deals come around Comment from : 1Grizzman |
