What I miss in the lump sum vs DCA discussions, is a reflection on rebalancing I wonder if investors who are emotionally not able to lump sum, are still able to pull the trigger on subsequent rebalancing? Any views on this?

Long term makes sense but it's over hyped I bought SPY @ 142 in July 1999 and still holding as of 5/16/2019 It's @ 294 May, 2019 Guess what annual rate of return is? Approximately 374 Bottom line PRICE is important Price one paid for an asset makes a BIG DIFFERENCE

If higher risk investments such as index funds outperform bonds and T bills over any significant period of time such as 5 or 10 years why put 40 in bonds? Sure you may loose less on the down years but doesn’t that significantly limit the growth? I have heard the 60/40 plan so many times but I just don’t understand it What am I missing?

I had a "two car" lump sum to invest in March 2009 After the recent carnage I psychologically could not lump sum it, so I DCA'd over 10 months starting in April 2009brbrbrI haven't wanted to calculate how much better a one lump investment in April would have been, and choose to feel blessed for the getting that lump sum to invest in April 2009 I did okay, about 3x now :)
