I was diagnosed with NVLD at the age of 40 & it really helped me understand the many problems I’ve had in my life In my twenties I trained as nurse but found things such as setting up IV drips or calculating drug dosages absolutely scary Although I gained my qualification I chose not to pursue a career in nursing as I felt incompetent I then trained as a social worker but again because I would interpret issues ‘ literally’ I once again doubted my decisions & felt unable to feel competent as a social worker Finally I studied a BA in philosophy at which I excelled Sadly tho , I still have not had a successful career & have worked mostly in low wage jobs I am unable to maintain healthy relationships etc I’ve had life long anxiety & depression & i never tell people about my diagnosis as firstly it’s difficult to explain the condition & secondly people don’t understand I now work as a dog walker & am very happy in my work so at least this brings me comfort It’s been very helpful listening to this video , for those out there who have NVLD - I send my love & hope you can find the help & resources x Comment from : Deborah Adams |

I have been trying to get my son evaluated for over a year with none of the offices returning my calls His primary care referred him to their hospital/health care systems BH I called to check if they called him for an appointment I spoke to the medical secretary and she actually knew of NVLD and said that they do recognize it and there is a doctor that is perfect to evaluate my son He has ADHD and was labeled autism at 10 years old, over 10 years ago but doesn't exactly fit autism He seems more NVLD to me Anyway, I almost cried when the secretary acknowledged that they recognize NVLD Maybe we can ge some real help for him Comment from : Nona Martone |
