Las cruces son templarias Los templarios tuvieron posesiones en Portugal y aunque no coincide la epoca de los templarios con la construcción del castillo, si es posible que fuera un descemdiente o un apadionado de los templarios Comment from : tarantela la aprediza |

Hi Lesley! Thank you for another great exploration The scissors hanging on the wall of the kitchen were actually sheep shears Growing up, we always five, or six, sheep on the place, and these shears are what my father and I used to shear the sheep brbrThe eating area, behind the kitchen, you referred to as the informal dinning room of the family was the servants hall, or dinning room A noble family would have never, ever, walked through the kitchen to a dinning room brbrAlso, some of the metal items you refer to as copper, looks a lot more like brass And brass is lot heavier than copper I’m not sure when the practice began, but, most doorknobs made of metal, even now, are made from brass due to its high anti-bacterial quality brbrExplore on!brbr-Mychael brDallas, Texas Comment from : Mychael Colyar-Long |

As an American whose family left basically no heirlooms behind, it staggers me that these incredible pieces of antique furniture weren't valued enough to be taken out of this house and either put into a modern storage facility, or passed on to be appreciated by other members of the family Even one item with such immense historical and personal significance would be a cherished possession to someone like me Comment from : synth -chan |

Oh Lord, where do I start? The stuffed animal is a badger The pots you said were clay on the shelf in the kitchen are terracotta The large urns with lids standing on the floor are for grain The bird above the fireplace is not an Eagle but is a Phenix The shears in the kitchen are for topiary but they also used them to shear sheep originally, before electric was invented The kitchen table in stately homes was for the servants In England they would eat mutton or bread & dripping after the masters were served their main meals in the dining room It's not just in Portugal that the electricity is still connected but in some French mansions/castles, and there was one in Sweden I've seen about 5 urbex videos where the electric was still connected Someone is obviously still paying the utility bills, so not as abandoned as you think they are I absolutely love this place, though The architecture, stained glass, wood carvings, and furniture are just phenomenal Thanks for the tour from both of you 😊 I love the way your Portuguese friend, Danny keeps correcting you when you get carried away with your descriptions of items "err not really, it's this or it's that" haha 😅 You make a good team! Keep up the good work Greetings from Manchester, UK 🇬🇧 Comment from : Santina Crolla |

In the dining room the pan on the floor in English is sometimes called a braiser It would most likely have hot coals in to keep the room warm and also fill metal foot rests to warm the feet with the coals The box was an "ice chest" for cool drinks I have seen smaller pots like those on top of the ice chest in French they are Chocolatetier to make hot chocolat in The brush and pan are for "crumbing" the table between courses, called a "Silent Butler" Love it all Comment from : Cathleen Cumpton |
|

I was so transported by going to this house with you Leslie and Danny It was like the most wonderful dream, and in the dream I lived in this house back in the time I could just see myself in my mind’s eye sitting by the fireplace in that room with the huge huge chimney all the way up! I could feel myself sitting at the big formal dinning table with special guests and asking to have the platter passed to me I could imagine myself pouring water into my wash bowl in the morning and splashing the cool water on my face, drying with the linens, and hanging the washing cloth on one of the ornate hooks on the wash stand This is the most special house I have ever ever seen I love it more than I can even say Speechless, indeed Thank you a million times for showing me this house I will never forget it!
