I can't believe Mike came up with that speech almost completely impromptu Hearing his story of how he got the invite and events that led up to the speech is quite interesting
Comment from : T51B1

I remember it fondly My life is better because of the things I did, and the people I worked with We didn't even know what OSHA was We knew what the ocean was We loved and respected the ocean When people say now that I'm lucky because of the life I live I smile I'm not lucky I learned how to work hard I love this guy!
Comment from : Timmy G

Comment from : Z Szilagyi

S B
It's sad that brutality is expedient
Comment from : S B

Stanley
Give me a break, the guy that does a TV show about manual labor and does actual work for maybe 20 minutes per episode is going to lecture us on hard work? He's a TV personality, not a laborer He's the last person that should be educating anybody on the value of hard work He's a charlatan A fraud A phony
Comment from : Stanley

Shelly Dehart
Mike Rowe speaks the truth
Comment from : Shelly Dehart

John Henry Holliday
so does mike have a nut allergy?
Comment from : John Henry Holliday

Scott Sickler
I am a 61 year old “ hands on“ carpenter/general contractor We are kitchen installers for several local lumberyards as well as installers for two major box stores I talk about this mentality all the time The disconnect that is so present between what I called the “clickety clickers” typing on their keyboards thanking what they do it’s so much more meaningful and deserving of A higher wage than those of us that are out working with splinters in our hands every day! I’m not saying that they do not play an role in this process We do need good planning, but the attitude towards the laymen and the lack of respect for what we do, I feel, is exactly what Mike Rowe is just trying to make us aware of My son who has a bachelors degree is working with me and has been for 10 years Of course, his massive college loan that is still looming, has not only set him back, but he feels presently was a grave mistake in perusing There is a longer story to that, but hopefully my point has been made I just want to reiterate what MIke has expressed in his message Thank you for exposing this and encouraging young men and women to pursue the trades and not feel that it is a path for flunkies that couldn’t cut it pursuing college degrees!
Comment from : Scott Sickler

Richard Rice
I don't follow OSHA regulations as using them will cause you injury as the safety regulations will cause you injury
Comment from : Richard Rice

David Kennedy
Ive always thought this guy had a great presentation The infrastructure is collapsing because no one wants to spend 20 years scraping by to potentially retire comfortably Hard truth I realize this an old video but the ripples of those bills are hitting shore Tradesman cannot afford it unless they have already spent most their lifetime accumulating the "living workshop" that is the mastery of a trade and heaven forbid you arent a generational tradesman and decide to do it because it looks like something enjoyable and efficient The toll is too stiff to justify what is on the other side of the career path of tradesman Its broken and now theres no one left that wants to fix it
Comment from : David Kennedy

Sanctuary INC
What a douche
Comment from : Sanctuary INC

I can only imagine how proud Mike's parents are and how proud their children are of them This may be the 3rd time I saw Mike Rowe or his name while scrolling I do know it's the FIRST time I actually listened to him talk I was a little in awe and BIG in agreement, but put his mom's contact information on my to do list We may feel at a certain age it's too late for us to realize a goal that was put on hold, or even forgotten I only heard a few words of an interview he was doing with her, but their similarities were evident Good people enjoying themselves, sharing their experiences and educating with laughter

I have a lot of respect for Mr Rowe A lot of our work has become increasingly meaningless because money has become the yardstick for everything Job satisfaction, work ethics, doing the right thing always seem to stand in the way of the next promotion I worked the overwhelming majority of my career, 50 years, in middle and upper management making a very good salary But my "good" work dreams are those of the five years I was in the construction industry, driving trucks, cutting steel, hard manual labor My "bad" work dreams are of the office, wandering around with faceless people trying to find my office but unable to because of the never-ending restructuring, downsizing, and job changes du jour My last job paid me very well for someone who did little outside of reading emails and attending pointless meetings all day For too many of us, working in America has lost it balance I hope we've learned that going into debt for just any college degree is not the solution for a happy and long career Maybe we can also find, or rediscover, another motivator simply besides the pursuit of wealth
Comment from : MrSteve280

jonoon27
Great lecture about the value of job, any job There are things to be done to get the society going, and no job is really dirty if a person is not forced into it brHis conservative bias was also shown ridiculing Hilary talking to steel workers but I guess trump’s idiotic image to consider himself at home with the working men and women is okay with him as if trump has any fucking idea how a carpet layer feels at the end of the day
Comment from : jonoon27

On the remodel and rebuilding of the 110 year old house I used to live in, from 2010 to 2014, most of the tradesmen I knew from church growing up and was friends with Our plumber was this guy who was an apprentice to his older, taller brother on the remodel of my parents house in 2001 The older brother died, and young George had to take over He stood 5 feet tall, skinny, and needed a step ladder to reach the pipes on a 7 foot basement ceiling 12 years down the line, and we still call him for our plumbing issues He's still skinny
Comment from : Jacob Short

Jacob Short
The testicals story goes to show that the experts are usually wrong Noah's Ark was built by amateurs The TITANIC was built by professionals Think about that for a moment

Comment from : Theodore Vegh

Scooter Tramp
You would be surprised at just how many tradespeople have colledge degrees that are far happier working in the trades Many of these folks worked in school for four long years to get a degree that they could never work at because there were just too many competitors in their chosen field and the wages were low because of that Some found that they had trained at something that when out in the real world they despised what they had to do I know at least 25 men and women that turned to the trades and are happy in their work and get a true sense of accomplishment from it Being a tradesperson is not a bad thing, it just isn't what we are taught to aspire to and the demand for skilled labour is skyrocketing
Comment from : Scooter Tramp

Mircea Gologan
I can not like this man and his videos enough great work, man ! keep it up ❤
