Do 2023 AGE’s in the 1/4 form have a missing reed? Mine doesn’t appear to Comment from : Jessec57 |
The missing reed feature must only be on the one ounce Eagles, because I just went to my local coin shop (very reputable) and I purchased four 2023 quarter ounce Eagles, and there is no missing reed along the edges of the coins anywhere Comment from : Mello Gee |
Brits: "Tilt the coin so the image in the interference lines change from a trident to a padlock"brbrAmericans: "We put a notch in the edge" Comment from : Bogey the Bear |
Missing reeds are goofy Comment from : Mark Shireman |
I just bought some 2022 Gold Eagle 1 oz and buffalo gold coins but they do not have the w, for West point, what does that mean? Comment from : Pet Jewelry |
Do the 1/4 oz eagles also have the same security feature? Comment from : panaxg |
Fun fact: the federal sentencing guidelines for counterfeiting start at a surprising low level meaning that there is a tempting risk/reward ratio Comment from : Stephen Mosca |
Security feature??? Comment from : Skully |
Great financial minds at work wow what a wonderful "security device" brShould of just copied the RCMint or skipped it Comment from : Bill |
The color is hideous when they are new They look much better when they are allowed to tone They will darken a bit (turn more golden) if left exposed to the air for a few months before putting them in capsules Comment from : TwilightBrass |
Lame Mine as well keep stacking buffalos Comment from : ApplezToOranges |
Once I fill my AGE tube, most definitely going for tube of Buffalos Comment from : Paul Rich |
Interesting Comment from : Bricktown Silver |

I started out buying silver AE 20 years ago in college The past 7 I've been buying various gold AE Been stepping up my game since watching your videos Really enjoy the info and have similar opinions on buying gold coins 👍 Comment from : Justin Eaton |
I agree, no serial numbers on gold It would defeat one of the most desirable things about the asset class, anonymity! james/ga Comment from : James Knighton |
Great video brother and thumbs up always ! My favorite coin is the eagle just started on a tube of Brits and Maple's moving forward ⏩ Comment from : Michael Hatzinikolis |
Cool! I will still buy the Type 1 Comment from : Hell Creek Trading |
I've seen 2 fake type 2 gold eagles and 2 fake silver eagles 2021,and I didn't see the missing reed Comment from : WhoDis? |
Nice video as always! For my living in Asia I really need to buy 24K gold I have some Eagles but most of my stack are Buffaloes and Maples I really think that the missing reed as a security feature is a big joke I hope the US Mint does something different next year Comment from : Gold Adventures with Brett |
I see gold buffaloes are sticking with the security feature of the uneven rim lol Comment from : jon smith |
New security feature… meh Dip affecting buy… no but appreciated Comment from : Scott Thomas |
It's only fine goldpfftisn't cheaper for you to buy maple leafs now? Comment from : ShitsAndGiggles |
I am super disappointed at the “security” feature on the AGE - and the fact that they didn’t bother to put it on the fractional gold Seems that the US Mint just got lazy Way behind the ball vs the Royal Mint or the Royal Canadian Mint Oh well, maybe the US Mint is taking for granted that the AGE is the bullion coin of choice here in the US Comment from : SilverGold Saver |
I also picked up a Gold eagle on Friday That is interesting about the placement of the missing reed I prefer visiting the local coin shop for purchases just to safeguard against any counterfeit coins Comment from : Michele Taal |
Well the missing reed announcement has already made its way through YouTube You’re about a week or so late Comment from : GunsN Roses |
I live 15 minutes away from Perth Mint, is it best to buy direct from the mint?? Comment from : Tony Bee |
Maybe I’ll buy one this yearbrGotta get a Kruger first tho… Comment from : King Magpie |
Well at least they did something, however the US Mint is still lacking in the security department! Comment from : 72cmcinc |
Great videoQuestion: when is the Perth Mint going to release the 2022 Dragon for US sales? Will it be available APMEX? Comment from : Robert Susor |
How effective is the security feature if they don’t tell people what it is and to look for it? Comment from : grizzalo |
Beautiful Maple in the background ! Comment from : Alexandre Couture |
I do feel that the US mint should step up to the Britannia or Maple level of security Comment from : Scott Valenti |
Cheers Comment from : K C T |
Just touching the edges! I like them when they have that bit of patina from hand oils Comment from : Matt Deckard |
Wow, they moved it around How clever ahah The security features were one huge flop The eagles seems almost incomplete with the missing reed Thanks for sharing sir Comment from : SalivateMetal |
My first Buffalos and Eagles arrived today You asked to let you know of conditions of my buffalos I am happy to report they arrived as expected; in BU condition free of marks and the rim thickness, while I did not finely measure, they visually seem to be quite even I got them from the unnamed source you got yours I am pretty happy with them Happy to welcome the Eagles and Buffalos to the family; I am sure the Britannia's and Maples will welcome them in as well : ) Comment from : BDW |
Great video keep them coming Comment from : Jason Wece |
I am waiting for which mint will keep up with their gold on a block chain 🤔 Comment from : Kevin Bounds |
wait so you are telling me that those coins are only 22k gold? only 91? Comment from : Dopatonin |
At first I want to laugh at the missing reed it seems (a) small time and (b) distracting from the beauty of the coinbrbut, your point on the very specific alloy make-up is well taken these coins by their very nature are hard to fake profitablybrnone-the-less, I would like to see something along the lines of textured backgrounds (as the Maple, Britannia have done) - I very much DON'T want/need serial numbersbrI suppose watching these "blank-spots" move around the edge of the Eagle will now become part of our hobby which is okay Comment from : __ HJG__ |
The security feature? LOL! I can't figure out why the US Mint would want to take a back seat to the RCM and the BRM when it comes to security features? It makes no sense This is the most popular gold coin in the world Also, is it just me that misses symmetry? That very bulbous beak on the new AGE seems to throw the whole coin out of balance for me Like if you stood it on edge, it would always roll until the big beak would be straight down! Maybe they had to put the gold from the missing tooth somewhere??? Haha! I guess I still buy the old ones first if I can find them Comment from : Brad Smith |
Good stuff👍 Comment from : Love Button |
I might come into some money this year, and would want a few tubes, but I'm still having trouble deciding between the Eagle, and Buffalo I already know everything about each I prefer the Buffalo, it has everything going for it, and I see it's being 24k as an advantage, but something deep down keeps pushing me toward the Eagle I just don't know what to do Comment from : Hound |
The Britannia has a great security feature on the coin US MINT seems lazy compared to that Comment from : Gun Guy |
I just received my first 1oz type 2 AGE I'm not over the moon with it but I had to have onebrI'm a big fan of the obverse but the angry bird I'm not too sure about brI feel out of all the different designs submitted there were better options brI think my focus going forward will be the Buffalo brI'm not saying that I'll never buy another one, maybe one a year Comment from : Bullion Addict |
Friday’s price, enticed Me as wellbrbrPicked up a couple 1oz AGEs,… a lot of Silver,… & 2 Platinum Queen’s Beast Completer Coins (SilverGoldBull)brbrI’ll be looking to add a couple more AGBs, on a further decline SilverGoldBull has a nice price on the 2021sbrbrAGM Comment from : A Gentle Madness |
💚🤛🏼 Comment from : Jeffrey Jackson |
If I shave off a reed on a pre 21 AGE, does the value increase now that it has a security feature? With everything the RCM, RM, Korean, do for security features on their coins, it's very surprising the US Mint won't do more Comment from : Campbells Coins |
I spent a lot of time mocking the US mint for their weak "security" features last year, so I guess I'll give them some credit for moving the missing reed That said I still think a missing reed is pretty weak If I buy an eagle now and go to sell it in ten years what are the chances that anyone will know off the top of their head where the missing reed was positioned a decade before? Sorry, I can't seem to avoid ranting about that Glad you got a new eagle! Comment from : QuickSilver |
Regarding 4:41, the missing reed on the edge of the Type 2 American Gold Eagle was imparted during the coin striking process This is because the Collar Die has a groove that was deliberately omitted during the manufacturing process which transfers onto the edge of the planchet as a missing reed Comment from : Jade Nephrite |
Nice quote from Abe Lincoln Comment from : Brian Buchanan |
Huge fail on the mints part The only thing the moving missing reed "security feature" does is create more headache for stackers trying to keep track of all the different locations over the coming years Comment from : Winged_Stacker |
Can you please tell where do you buy your gold coins from? Comment from : Brian Long |
Buffalos and Britannia’s Comment from : Drew Peacock |
The security feature is just stupid!! But something's better than nothing Comment from : Frank Imperato |
I too can do without the serialized tracking capability on the Eagles Comment from : The Cars |
Loading up bro geez Comment from : Silver Britches |
think i mentioned this beforebrbut the missing reed would be a better feature if there was a micro engraving on that missing reed like a small bar code for instancebrat least it would feel more substantial Comment from : Nathan R |
Hi, 2 I wonder where they found the 2021 missing reed to put it back on in 2022? Now they lose the one at 7:30??? bTYU/b Comment from : Donald in New Mexico |
I am curious about the change in the American Eagle coin, which since 2021 shows a single eye of the eagle Comment from : Kerido Kaballo |
I just picked up a Philharmonic it's beautiful, but I'm gonna stick to Buffalo and Eagles Comment from : x2dab184 |
Sometimes 5060 bucks Is enough to pull the trigger Comment from : Joe Boucher |
They're smoking something funny over there at the mint Comment from : DoctorShafty |
With world class technology, available to the US mint their new security feature of a missing read is an outstanding job of sheer brilliance I just hope that those brilliant minds stay at the mint and don't segue into politics 😅😂 Comment from : Sur-Real |
Went to a private sale yesterday to purchase 6 morgans 5 out of 6 ended up being fake and explained why i knew they were fake right away weighed them in front of the guy, pinged them, and 3 were magnetic Only purchased the one real one The reason I added that anecdote, i realize that counterfeiters will do and make ANYTHING that is worth money, and a part of me has fun testing the product, but i really wish it wasn't necessary in every private purchase I hate that we live in a world where everyone is trying to "get one over" on their fellow man Oh, in case you were curious, the person i purchased the coin from was an old crippled man that was merely trying to sell his treasures for cash because he was pretty hard up for cash Nearly brought him to tears when i showed him his coins were fake Really big punch to the gut, ya know Anyways, it's the nature of the beast i spose Take care Comment from : MilqueMoney |
I've learned something today I didn't know that as of late all coins & bars leaving the RCM is 100 legit Fraud free I didn't know that Pretty cool Thx Comment from : Dany Rizk |
Ah, Sun Tzu's book 🔥 Comment from : Lobo Plateado Stacker |
Is it just on the new 1oz Eagles? I have some 2022 1/10oz coming! Comment from : Frenetic Zetetic |
Did you wrap that pen or did it come that way? Comment from : Made in the USA |
👍 Comment from : from Ontario |
Nice to know it’s there at least 🤷🏻♂️brbrI imagine most of the stackers here aren’t thinking of selling their gold for a long time, but I’m curious if you’ve ever experienced any LCS testing your gold for counterfeiting when you’ve sold in the past Comment from : Origami Outlaww |
GM 2is1, man you are very well organized Vids are crisp Topics you share are also the best Well organized person I guess I watch your videos just to look at GBs herd and the knifes Bought a few herds for my house 😂 Comment from : Soothy Moody |
Well this is what happens when the president put someone in a job that has absolutely zero qualifications for it in the first place Only put there because of her race Bad things are going to happen Comment from : Mark Roberts |
It seems that the missing reed could be used as a way for a counterfeiter to try and sell a coin with a “missing reed in a different location” or “no reed at all” as an error to an uneducated buyer Comment from : Tim F |
Shaving a reed is more effort than a counterfeiter is willing to doand doing it cleanly enough so it's not obviously shaved is another level of painThe currently sold counterfeits don't have a missing reed, so I think there's something to be said about its effectiveness, even though it seems like a simple thing Comment from : eternal ponderer |
Great video I’ve been refocusing back to Eagles and Buffaloes after collecting several things I wanted from other places, especially the Perth Mint But overall, the missing reed, even with different positions, seems like a real miss The radial lines of the Canadian Maple, the detailed etching of the Brittania, the micro privy marks all very nice So anything like that would have been a step in the right direction by the US Mint Comment from : Michael McCoy |
The missing reed is annoying The whole point of the reeded edge was to prevent clipping So now the new security feature is to eliminate part of the original security feature? IDK Comment from : Bombs Away LeMay |
Great video brMoving the security feature to a different spot every year is a good ideabrFor verification in the future “ oh that’s a 2022 the mark should be at 7:15 and this one’s at 6” Comment from : Nick N |
I honestly thought that when the missing reed came up as the new “security feature” that location would have a privy mark instead of the reed But nope, that was too much for the mint 😏 Comment from : JDre2155 |
AGE! The secret security feature is… Blah Comment from : Cash and Coins |
The mint did take the easy way out on security Comment from : David Johnson |
There's no way to know for sure without chopping one up Comment from : bugzymaccode |
As long as the gold still shines, I guess Comment from : eno88 |
