Yes yes yes to all of this! I'm in college and my accommodations are so insanely helpful - especially for someone who wasn't diagnosed till she'd been in college for three years I would also recommend talking to people in the disability office before you apply for your accommodations - they can tell you common accommodations they provide and possibly help you think of some you wouldn't have thought of or explain why they might be helpful I also talked to my therapist to bounce ideas off of her for what might be helpful brbrbrI still often feel bad for having my accommodations because my brain tricks me into thinking I shouldn't need them, but Jessica is right - these are things that simply even out the playing field and give you an opportunity to succeed Every professor I've ever given my accommodations letter to has been so kind and so supportive and constantly tells me to let them know if there's any additional thing they can do to make my struggles easier for me brbrbrYou deserve to succeed Comment from : Chandler Smith |

Could someone give an example of what to write in the "Please describe your disability and how it affects you academically:"brand "What types of accommodations would help for your disability:"brI think I would be able to come up with something understandable, but if anyone has done it before and knows what to write I would be very thankful xx Comment from : Emily |

I can’t believe I’m actually saying this, but I find university so much easier and less stressful than high schoolbrbrI was expecting things to be the other way around, but to my surprise, I’ve improved drastically because my university actually provides accommodations for my ADHD, unlike in high schoolbrbrI’m high school, I didn’t really have any accommodations for my ADHD, so I struggled to show what I was actually capable of, and I even had some teachers that didn’t understand what ADHD was, and simply saw it as an excusebrbrWith university on the other hand, they provide so much to help every student succeed brI have accommodations for my ADHDbr-time and a half for examsbr-I can record lecturesbr-I am able to get extensions for assignments if neededbr-I can’t have more than 1 exam within a 24 hour period (plus morning exams only)brbrI’m really grateful to have access to these accommodations, because they really help me accomplish so much Comment from : Twas a Dream |

I wish I had switched my major earlier but I'm still glad I switched it I also found that my auto tutorial class was my favourite I wish all my classes could have been like that! I do wish I would have done college differently but it wasn't all bad Comment from : Madeline Dalziel |

my issue is, I'm only still learning about my adhd and i have no idea what i need accomodations for, and what i actually need to just try harder at :/ and if i do need accomodations what do they even need to be? Comment from : psalm91rdwlkfpgrl |
Definitely gonna do this when I get to college I asked some of the people at a school I'm interested in if they had accommodations, and they were very helpful They offer free tutoring to anyone who is struggling, and they have a department for neurodivergent students so they can get accommodations They also value relationships between teachers and students, so I will be able to ask questions 1 on 1 with my professors if I'm confusedbrbrThis school is definitely high on my list! Comment from : Hello There |
I'm here avoiding homework lol but i legit need help Comment from : twweety9 |
So right on accommodations not giving us an advantage over others-- I have them for previously diagnosed MDD and GAD and I'm still struggling and doing mediocre in my classes in high school, I had one of the highest GPAs in my class (without accommodations) If I didn't have these accommodations, I would have most certainly flunked out Currently waiting to get evaluated for possible ADHD so that I can get the support I need Comment from : Cameron Schyuder |
I don't know why this video is making me cry 😢 Comment from : Erika Acuña |
Of course you can, they don't want your ADHD to get in the way of getting that tuition money 🤑 BUT don't let that job recruiter find out or you'll wind up a professional student 🤣 Comment from : JustTheBeginning |
"It felt like it would be cheating to have help that other students didn't" OMG That is verbatim what I would think every time I decided not to get accommodations! Folks, if you're struggling, do yourself a favor Level the playing field for yourself and GET ACCOMMODATIONS! Comment from : WompusSlompus |

When I was in college I thought I was neurotypical and wished I had the extra test time and notes that people with ADHD were provided cuz you know I needed them too I may not be the most self aware Comment from : Bratt Rox |

My problem is I have no idea what sort of accommodations i'm supposed to be asking for! Comment from : peepytime |
An honest question herebrHow is it that some who fit the criteria for ADHD are able to make it through school unscathed & don't seem to have the same academic challenges which usually plague us, and are able to excel in school and higher education? Comment from : Butterfly Angel |
I’m new to this channel so idk if this is on purpose, it probably is, but the nosies and sound effects in your videos make it easier to hold my attention ;-; Comment from : C |

I feel like one of my lecturers doesn't have faith in me to be a good OT because of my ADHD symptoms I just need to graduate I know that my prac supervisor is looking forward to me coming back for the next practicum So that is a good thing Comment from : Looking Up |
Thank you for your videos! They helped me get diagnosed at 22 while in college I originally dropped out because I was having a lot of issues with the school in general and I was starting to not do well academically (which was extremely difficult for me because I was a good student in high school and because I was failing I felt so depressed) but now I know it's because I have ADHD and I'm at a different college now and I'll be looking to getting accommodations! I'm unsure of what accommodations I need but it makes me want to try my old major again because I was very passionate about it I just struggled so hard with studying and the lab work Comment from : richalvarezfan101 |
I only found out about accommodations for ADHD in my final semester of university through a friend of mine I never got any in school and I did not know it was a thing even though I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was 4 :/ Comment from : AlffBooks |

Getting accommodations So much extra effort brPart of me wants to do it But the other part of me wants to go without because some of of the accommodations might help, but they might hinder the actual learning Comment from : girrrrrrr2 |

"Interest-based learners," yep--that's why I picked an interdisciplinary major that gives me a pick of classes from four different departments as well as a minor >< Just got diagnosed It was kind of surreal to be asked about possible accommodations because I never considered that a possibility I was extremely successful in high school with the help of very supportive parents, so I don't usually feel like I deserve them I may not, actually, based on my school's criteriafortunately COVID has made certain things, like recorded lectures and virtual notes, far more common! Comment from : Stellaluna |
I wish I had known I could have accomodations when I was in college! Actually I wish I had been diagnosed before going to college in the first place 😅 Comment from : Rulliane Gonçalves |
Ah ! I have accommodations in post secondary and they are really helpful but aside from my literal PSYCHOLOGY prof people generally ignore them unless you full on confront the teachers and often go through other staff as well This makes it extremely difficult and emotionally exhausting to get the accommodations you need which sucks! Comment from : Indigoboi |
Jessica, you Rock! Comment from : Damion B Sanders |
I wish I'd seen this before seeking accommodations, it was so stressful and scary But I did it! This video is spot on Comment from : Brittany Clark |
reading the comments i see students dont consider this unfair, so far its just been petty professors i filed grievances with because they never had a dps student before or a non traditional student, power tripping bullies Comment from : DeanRendar84 |

I'm glad I rediscovered this video! I've been following and watching for a while, but I start Grad School next week and I didn't consider requesting accommodations The laughable thing about this is that I advise college students! I tell them this information every day, but I forget (ha!) to do it for myself Comment from : Alex Eloriaga |
I actually geeked at the beginning when we were supposed to raise our hands Comment from : Nick Matavelli |

Any advice on how to get accommodations while I’m still in the process of being diagnosed? Comment from : Lex Araiza |
Thanks for the video! Is there a similar one for those of us trying to get accommodations at work? In work environments where you have to report progress every day and where you have periodical performance reviews, it's a real struggle Especially since quarantine started and our team switched projects to an area I'm not comfortable with nor interested in, I've been at risk of losing my job Comment from : Jessica Michelle |

The first time I talked to accessibility services they basically told me that there was nothing that could do right now I'm an online student because of covid and only taking part time because I can't handle the format they put my classes for my major in The lady I talked to basically told me that I have the wrong disability for the accommodation my doctor recommended I had to talk to some other departments about the problems I was having with them before they were able to help me out Yesterday I talked to someone higher up who actually listened to me and was able to get me the accomodations I need Comment from : Sophdog |
"Ask questions to keep brain stimulated" That's so me!! And I love the idea of switching majors for your interest!! I've done it so many times!! 😭💛 Comment from : Aamaria Mason |

does anybody out there know how to get in touch with or what I should do about an ADA violation?I applied for accommodations for a huge exam (late diagnosis), but i got denied and I failed hard turns out not only was it a major NO-NO on the testing agency's part but they pretty routinely reject applicants with less visible disabilities because if you're not a genuine case you'll likely back off, and if you're just an a typical case or have less documentation like me, chances are you either don't have the information, resources, or time to appeal or fight back Comment from : Nabibi |
I spaced out halfway through this video! Aghh! Comment from : A M |

One idea that I want to stop is the idea that education is competitive I've always found that while neurotypical students are able to use competition as a motivator, with ADHD this fuels the toxic perfectionist in me and the voice that talks me down when the problems I have caused by ADHD interferes with my ability to work- Comment from : Llama Latte |
I doubt I can get accommodations without official diagnosis Comment from : rosestormwolf |
I've noticed that my main reason to go to college is ballet classes If I'm not taking a ballet class, I'm more likely to drop out If I hate my ballet class because the teacher is more familiar with modern dance and I feel that its a waste of my time, I'll struggle to stay in school If I have 4 different ballet classes a week, I have a reason to go to college all week, because I want to dance SO bad so I might as well Especially if one ballet class is in the morning and the next is in the evening, I might as well learn while waiting to dance Comment from : Elf |
I just did this! I’m in grad school and I got diagnosed my senior year of college I feel silly cause I keep trying not to use my accommodations but your point of it’s not cheating it’s leveling the playing field helped me a lot! Thanks Comment from : Kendiikendra |
But those accommodations in college for those who want to get into the military will probably diqualify you from enlistment in meps and the medical waiver will never be approved sooooothink hard now military hopefuls!!! Comment from : Tech bagmash23💸💸 |

I was diagnosed much later as when I was in school I showed signs but psychologist and psychiatrist in Asia did not help I came college I kept repeating exams one of my Prof helped by putting me in a certificate course to help me boast my enthusiasmeven though it's a medical school right that college was a medical school they did not diagnosed me until I took gap years and went to America and there I seeked help and they told me I was suffering from ADHD and all those "unwarranted" things that my parents and school did to help me get to medical school was accomodationsI appreciate accomodations now when I am regconised and got my accomodations in Australia in my masters program helped me understand my situation Comment from : N Anushaa Nanda Gopalan |
Because of this video, I actually went and got accommodations and my GPA went up a substantial amount I hope anyone on here considering accommodations gets them because they really do help level the playing field! Comment from : AHL |

I live in a country that i can't get accommodations for ADHD and I am forced yo choose a major, bc any other major doesn't have a guaranteed income :))))))) Comment from : Niloufar Karimian Taheri |

I’m going into grad school any tips on how to get accommodations ? Comment from : Kendra Burmester |
I wonder if you could do a future video about other college supports, like when you mentioned in this video academic coaching I’m used to getting accommodations because of my blindness, but I feel like my biggest ADHD areas are breaking down big assignments and getting them done, and I always wonder if I should like, go to tutoring every other day not because I need tutoring but because it would give me some structure and maybe some help breaking the assignment down and getting it done, or if there is some other service to help me with that I would love to hear more about what helps in college besides accommodations, or maybe what some other accommodations are that weren’t mentioned here Comment from : Ellana Crew |
I’ve been recently diagnosed with adhd, and i almost cried, why didn’t i know about this before, why my family didn’t notice that i have a problem, i was really struggling to keep relationships, cuz i always forget, im struggling in college cuz i dont have the motivation to do anything, i just do want to do it, and the medication for adhd is so pricey, i really dont know what to do, i think im gonna cry💔 Comment from : Ayman FE |
I had to change my major 4 times but I think i finally have one that has classes I enjoy to take Obviously not every class will be awesome but I looked at my DCP and I hated ever class i needed to take I decided that wasn't worth it Comment from : GeeklingNo1 |
I don’t have an official diagnosis of anything but I struggle a lot with school (and life) and have always thought it might be ADHD, after almost three years of university (I’ll be doing 6 years in total) I’ve finally reached out to the accessibility office and talked to them, the lady I talked to said it could be ADHD (without me brining it up) and it is possible to like do assessments with a psychologist to figure out an official diagnosis of something but because I also struggle with anxiety that stops me from trying new things and so even though I really want to get help and be able to do better in school I’m not really letting myself try things and like you need to try things to figure out what works and what doesn’t for yourself and so she said she wasn’t too sure what could be done for me Comment from : Danica G |
At my college it is called learning support and it was actually learning support that noticed I needed help and offered it, I get a lot of help with exams and extra time on assignments because they assessed me at the college to find out my working needs I had never had any type of support at school was just left to struggle but college has been fantastic and has helped me to achieve things I never thought I could Comment from : xUndeadPrincess |
Wish I had this video a couple months ago when I tried to balance school and work :( Comment from : Carm H |
I’m in college right now and I have adhd I’ve been able to get the accommodations I need but now I’m struggling with getting help with executive functions stuff like time management, long term planning, project break downs, etc 😓 When I asked the disabilities resources office at my school for help, they said they used to have people who advise you in this kind of thing but the “need for it wasn’t strong enough” (Um hello! I need it!) so they said I should find a third party executive functioning coach off campus If only I had the executive functioning and organization and follow through skills needed to seek out that help! I’m going to see what the on campus tutoring center has to offer I know I can be successful, it’s just a struggle getting set up for success Comment from : Lauren Davis |
I think I have ADD or ADHD but I feel like no one believes that I seriously can’t concentrate AT ALL on anything no matter if I like what I’m doing or not I have had a 504 plan half a year when I was in junior year, but by the end of the year, some teachers acted like I only got it to get extensions on HW and papers just for fun or that I’m lazy I have severe procrastination issues as well and depression that impacts my daily life I have been in therapy for 5 or so years now and with 3 different therapists, with no one being able to understand They just say it’s because of my depression and anxiety I feel like it’s more than that I’ve been trying to tell them for years and no one understands There’s more than what I’m typing but I’m losing interest in typing this long comment lol Hope anyone can help? Comment from : Raleigh Amelia |
I just got my college accommodations after 2 years Comment from : TheAcadianGuy |
Oh how I wish I would have known! Comment from : Rachel Zblewski |
This channel actually made me realize that university accommodations would be a good idea I felt it might be weird but I did it before starting universitybrbrThey brought up accommodations I didn’t realize I would need I had structured my classes to be as close together in a day as possible so my meds would be most active during my lectures But I didn’t think about how I couldn’t pick my exam timesbrThe worst outcome would be an exam at 7:30 am and an exam at 7:00 pm on the same day because my meds aren’t effective for more than 8 hours in a day So my only accommodation was I couldn’t have more than one exam per daybrbrI actually got accommodations to help me manage the complications relating to my ADHD that were out of my control I did my part to manage my symptoms and they did theirs Comment from : Freyja The Healer |

7 and a half years after starting my bachelor’s degree, I graduate today College with ADHD has been no joke! But if I can do it, anyone can! Comment from : Magsltt |
