D'you want to know something hilarious, you know how actors have a trailer to hang out in, I thought they actually slept there😂😂😂 Comment from : Robyn Marler |
This channel has some great people in the industry and I enjoy listening to them, but where is all this based talent and attitude in the modern mainstream films and series?brConsidering under what kind of insane conditions were actors and crew forced to work while making unforgettable films like Cameron's Abyss or Coppola's Apocalypse Now, all these major studio films and blockbusters look like a waste of space and money Some honorable mentions - Rings of Power, Witcher Blood Origin, Velma, endless superhero factory filmmaking, Disney remakes - overpriced, yet often cheap looking, unwatcheable mess that is creatively bankrupt Not to mention blatantly pushing modern agenda which makes most of the audience sick It seems the mainstream film making doesn't care about losing their money and looking like foolsbrOn the other hand, nowadays it is a perfect time to catch up on all the classic films and series and books from the past that I haven't watched/read yetbrThere have been some gems, but these are just a few exceptions in a sea of crap Comment from : Julianne Warren |

Each needs each other?? each is ripping each other off Comment from : CORE Instincts |

An industry that doesn’t even manage to change the font of scripts from Courier 12 to something nicer, has proven pretty strongly that it is unable to change Comment from : Rainer Buechse |

" What is an indie rat?"br"It's people that don't wait for the Machine They figure out a Way It's not waiting for a Machine to decide when all the stars align" Comment from : Tom |
Nah I bet there’s some money laundering on these at some level… Comment from : Med •-• |
I looked at the date of 2006 and budgets at that time I Think he might be talking about the Spiderman franchise Comment from : Ryan Hanson |
They cost so much because they use big name big reputation actors as the draw because they don't trust audiences will watch their movie without it And because marketing makes up about half the budget of most hollywood moviesbrbrWithout those two things it's actually not very expensive to make a movie when you're just talking about real tangible costs Comment from : Rowgue51 |
This channel is treasure Comment from : Devin Glen |

If ever there was a conversation about 1st world problems? Comment from : Neil Aspinall |

I don’t get all of the Lord of the Rings guesses Weren’t all three shot all at once/back to back with the budget all set in stone up front, not to mention the box office was massive on all three, no? If it wasn’t for the years in question I would bet the original Matrix trilogy The second movie was a major yellow flag at the time Comment from : Jason Now What |
12:13 "I mean, it's not Rocket Surgery" :) Comment from : MindGem |
The most surprising part of this interview was that a Hollywood studio not just considered but even went through with consulting someone whose relationship with and understanding of money is much more grounded in reality in contrast to the suits There's no doubt in my mind that every big Hollywood studio production could save at least 10 to 25 percent on their budget Comment from : almightytallestred |
It’s crazy to me how this people figured out how to save money now I mean, the baskets? I wouldn’t feel offended if I didn’t get a basket wth Private jets? First of all that’s so bad for the environment, second, do you think actors and cru are going to die if they don’t fly privately? Comment from : Carolina Milanesio |
We have a high based vfx movie here, let's cut the vfx budget Comment from : Celso Destefano |
Ironically his fee to save them money was exactly 52 Mil Don’t understand why every studio wouldn’t want this guy’s advise for every flick they make Comment from : Scott Shiflett |

They make movies in Winnipeg for $025 on the UD Dollar $025USD in Winnipeg will bring $100 of work That is why the Film Industry here is rocking Comment from : Mick |
From listening to him about where the issues were when making savings, it seemed things relating to actors and their contracts are points of concern along with the post-production of these movies It seems like people who are trying to create wealth such as actors; the public feels as though they deserve or should get all the perks they want While the production company is searching globally on how to make 20 Mil on a 100 Mil or 200 Mil budget I have sympathy for these companies and for the actors, no one is having it easy But the public is unaware of these sorts of problems since people only know the actors and hear them when they scream fire While production companies are seen as having infinite wealth Sure production companies have other avenues to make money as well but actors want a part of that money and so there goes a chunk of it that can help you cover the budget There is a lack of understanding from people for sure Comment from : infinitus |
His hat is a gift basket itself Fill that shit with some nuts & fruit and leave it on the table Comment from : __ |

"gift baskets" jesus Comment from : nope nope |
So a lot of the cost is because people are vain and have to be pampered like snobby royalty and can't just treat it like doing a job Got it Comment from : ebinrock |
To make it great destroy the business aspect Make these artists stand out and make no money doing it Stop treating actors like pampered princes Give them nothing - see what they could come up with Comment from : and the seeker seeks God |
Half the budget goes to catering Comment from : Ryan Costa |

Sure, most interesting interviewee, but what a great interviewer Comment from : Dusan Kostic |
Yeah yeah…love and passion…all I hear is a guy that probably short changes his fucking crew on pay with the idea they are stretching their dime and doing it for the “art”, puts people in shitty situations that are potentially dangerous Sounds like a load of horse shit to me Comment from : comicKkrakK |

fun fact, i worked in stranger things recent season and in the filming of chernobyl , what i learned is actors are retards of the highest level, i never met sutch stupid and brainwashed people ever in my life, the whole hollywood gang is fucking retarded and drugged up the ass so mutch they cant even act normal Comment from : Steven Seagull |
Rocket surgery is actually really easy You don't even need anesthesia! 🚀🚀🚀 Comment from : Tommy Steward |
The movie industry is still held in Hollywood but it is slowly being decentralized Major studios are using all the visual effects they can to hold onto the market (working with superhero movies) but it's just a matter of time before that trend fades as well With production technology becoming affordable and accessible by independent movie makers with streaming and online distribution, the days of big Hollywood will be changing and won't be like it used to be Comment from : buzzcrushtrendkill |
BTW I just watched Entropy 1999 Thanks for the valuable mention I loved the film The legendary band U2 played a pivotal role in it, unexpected Also took notice at the lighting and editing It's Sooo 90's! Especially the music, I loved it Was it filmed in super 16mm? Comment from : R Menon |

I want one of these gift baskets Just gotta become a talented famous actor Easy peasy brIt’s pretty cool to see this guy engaging in the comments Now that’s something you rarely seebrTwo questions I’d ask an established film maker are, what’s the best movie that was never made, and what’s the one horrible movie that would have been the best under different circumstances, whether it be budget, casting, directing, artistic choices, etc? Comment from : Cresc Endo |

This one's a keeper! Yup Comment from : Darrell Winfrey |
"WHAT WAS THE MOST SURPRISING PART OF THIS INTERVIEW?" - None of it! Shane, to me, you are my brother from another mother I say that because everything you said in this interview was everything I learned and observed on the sets, of those big studio productions of which I worked on for years I ended up choosing the indie film maker route after all of that Running on fear and fighting on set is not my cup of tea And I have gotten much farther going the indie way (Listening to my own gut instinct) I won't put up with grown ups on my set, ranting and fighting in front of everyone like an unruly 13 yrold brat COMMON SENSE! YES! AND ENOUGH WITH THE DARN MEETINGSdelay, delay, dealay! Thats what that is! And it smells like fear to me Anyhow, as always, I look forward to your next/latest interview Alexis : ) Comment from : alexis lefortune |

Talent and Crew Usually Never Care About How Much Producers Are SpendingbrbrJust Look at Tom Cruise, They Lost Him Insurance on the Film Now He Has to Fire People When He Told Them Multiple Times to be Cautious on Set But No One Cared, Called Him a Tyrant Now They Out of Work Before Money Comes From Somewhere Comment from : GDSprodify |
Yak yak yak He dribbles on and on just like everybody in Hollywood they want you think they know so much do they babble on But if they knew a lot everything they say would be helpful This guy turns my brain into oatmeal Just make a good god dame film but nobody can do the so learn the dribble Comment from : Its Glen Eaton |

An artist's vision should never be trusted with an existing property The Last Jedi is a good example of what happens when an artist has too much control Comment from : uanime1 |
I am black This comes natural to me! Comment from : Magnum Lifestyle Media LLC |
I'm gonna guess the production he's talking about is Ocean's Thirteen It's a trilogy with lots of stars, lots of people to make promises to It came out in 2007, the year after Gridiron Gang It's also at WB who is notorious for not planning things out Comment from : UnBoxing Jon - Family Edition! |

Sucks Comment from : Drake Dragon |
If it would be on me, i'd book basic accomodation for actors, just like for everyone, normal air tickets, etc They are payed pretty well, so they can pay for private jets, and $5k rooms if they want Gift basket is nice, especially if it's something personal Doesn't have to be crazy expensive, just find out something creative Comment from : Cavalier HU |
Hollywood wastes more money than the government Comment from : Winston Smith |
What a great 👍video very engaging Comment from : micheal croos |
I think he is talking about Fast and the Furious Comment from : Jerry Jones |
That hat I wasn’t going to say anything about his hat but others noticed so I guess I’m not alone With his hair in the back and the hat combined, I cannot imagine this gentleman full of wisdom without a leaf blower doing someone’s yard He’s not the kind of guy that does yards because he can’t find anything better to do Rather, he enjoys being outdoors, doesn’t want to deal with “suits” and wants his work day to end (and actually start for himself) when the sun goes down He looks like the kind of guy who works to live, rather than living to work The hat or the hair alone don’t give him this vibe It is only the two together in combination, like Indiana Jones’ hat and his whip in combination (Except a leaf blower instead) Thanks for the filmmaking wisdom Mr Stanley (ps I used to be a professional landscaper and yard mower I still own a leaf blower I now do tractor / excavation work and I really enjoy working outdoors so the only thing that has changed is that I now operate larger equipment Maybe there could be a movie character that is a landscaper that gives amazing advice in as few words as possible in a supporting role to a supporting role If the character has curly long hair and a golf hat, you’ll know where I got the idea 👍😊 Now that I think about it, Mr Miyagi in Karate Kid was a maintenance man / groundskeeper Maybe this is a viable idea😊) Comment from : Coby J Marcum |
Haven’t been to the movies since Joker before that, on purpose was the Adam’s family cartoon for my daughter, Frozen, the same and, I kid you not, the Matrix?brbrFuck, movies are boring and a waste of time Comment from : David Stair |
I hate to admit it, but I kinda had to giggle when he mentioned that 'suit' getting punched out on the movie set Guilty pleasure Comment from : Jonathan Martin-Ives |
Always good to hear this man share his experience As a complete DIY FILMmaker myself I have a lot of resentment for executives and producers I've worked with in the past I understand they are people but their culture that they've created is a massive barrier to productive creation It SEEMS, for the most part, "Do what I say, not what I do" They will nickle-and-dime you to the cheapest rate while having a helicopter fly in Starbucks for their third afternoon break Not saying they all do that but I've seen enough to make my blood boil on sets Comment from : Riven Motors |
Outstanding insight into the studio dynamics Invaluable info to better navigate the movie making landscape successfully Comment from : James Dore |
Hollywood is secretly wanting to spend way less money but make huge profit and I feel like if a studio gives an opportunity to you to make a film successful under a low budget it can be your break I love how he explains things a lot of people got Hollywood misconstrued just have to understand the game of it all and you can make it Comment from : Sam Britt |
This guy never responds to anyoneI know an a-lister that tried to reach him for 3 months, big loss for Shane Comment from : zozzaro george |
I wouldn't say anything was surprising per se, but I think the most interesting part was when he elaborated on the "Suits" vs "Artists" dynamic It's always been crazy to me that people with no expertise hire those with expertise to do a job, just to micro-manage and try and fit them into some sort of box on the back end Like Shane mentioned, they've taken all these classes in body language etc, but it seems they never made it to the class that teaches you to let the artists do their job! Glad I stuck till the end of the video for that little gem!! Comment from : unitzer07 |
an eye opening interview as always Comment from : Jonathan Boyd |
