Please I need to ask you a question about being licensed in Oklahoma I am confused with the forms What a provisional dietitian means? How she is different from the licensed dietitian I am really confused Thank you Comment from : The Truth |
I'm a nurse but I'm passionate about nutrition so I was thinking about adding an RD to the end of my name, cuz why not? Everything you said about nursing is true lol I love it Thanks for the fair warning man You've got me thinking twice Comment from : Ben Crez |
I think there's a lot of good information in this, but also a lot of misleading information For example, a nurse practitioner and a PA are not the same Although they share a lot of similarities, two entirely different programs with two entirely different requirementsbrbrSecondly, the national average for a registered dietitian is exceedingly higher than 40,000 While it's not nearly as high as it probably should be, it's roughly between 60 and 80,000 That's also entry level There's a lot of opportunities to branch off in dietetics You can own your own practice, work at hospitals, sports organizations, schools, government, etc The list goes on Comment from : Matthew Spangler |
Im no expert at all, but my best guess to why dieticians are underpaid is because the healthcare industry makes most of their money from drugs aka medicine And also the healthcare industry thrives on people who are sick, injured, and dis-eased Rather it be mentally or physically The last thing they need is a bunch of dieticians improving people's health through better nutrition, which also taking up all the money Think about it The healthcare industry is heavily funded by the government and other organizations rather it be public or private This money is used to pay the workers (doctors, nurses, surgeons, nutritionists, etc) The money is also used for equipment But also money comes from insurance which is also heavily funded by the government Also why do you think they emphasize having health insurance so much Before I go any further the point is that they are not about to pay dieticians hundreds of thousands of dollars per year to improve peoples health which in turn would lead to people not getting sick and having stronger immune systems The last thing they need is a dietician who figures out a meal plan to cure cancer 😅 They would much rather have folks eating mcdonalds and raising their blood pressure and developing all kinds of heart dis-eases and cancers, diabetes, etc So if you ask me they are trying to keep as few dieticians and nutritionists in the healthcare industry as possible In a way its like they are literally trying to discourage people from pursuing the career in the first place I was 100 all in on becoming one until seeing this video I will now be looking into nursing They say follow the money and you'll find the truth I bet the folks who made the C-19 vaccine made alot of money 😅 And I bet you alot of people in the Health Scare industry would start losing jobs if people started to eat more healthy 😂 Comment from : Sia North |

I could not agree more with everything that you said in this video I’m almost done with my associates degree and was interested in possibly getting my bachelors in dietician and nutrition I recently seen that they changed the education requirements to masters level and I’m furious The average salary does not match the education requirements and someone with an associates degree would make way more than I would Comment from : Breanna Mack |
I was thinking about that too Thank you for this video I am currently working as dietary manager in a nursing home, I wanna pursue to become a registered dietitian but when they announced by 2024 we need to get the masters in order to become registered dietitian, I think it’s not practical anymore The amount of time, money, and energy that I have to give it’s not worth it 😢 Comment from : Tricia Lynne Macalalad |
What up G Comment from : Hezeleo |
Thank you for your honesty, After graduating high school I wanted to be a Certified personal trainer and registered dietitian After doing hard research, it wasn’t worth it Got my BS in Healthcare Management Comment from : Ryan Heisler |
This was very helpful Thank you so much !!!!!!!!! Comment from : Ryan Dosa |
Very helpful video Thank you for your honesty Comment from : Bryanna Jordan |
I’m leaving nursing to pursue registered dietician It’s been a war zone, especially since 2020 Rampant understaffing, mandatory overtime (16hr shifts) & back problems Wouldn’t recommend Comment from : Pookie |
2024 now requires a masters degree#bye Comment from : Autobot Diva |
But why do you think they're so desperate for nurses? Because being a nurse is really not for everyone, despite everyone treating it like it's the new real estate Plus, I don't see how nursing can replace Dietetics as an occupation They are so entirely different Comment from : beaut |
Thank you for speaking truth I chose nutrition as a second career and was able to do it without loans, but…brYears of being underpaid and undevalued are sure to kill your passion Still seeing offers of $25 per hour I work contract now which pays better and am launching my own blog theCHFdietitian and this helps, but the fundamental problems of this field remain Adding a masters requirement will do nothing to get us more money, but will simply saddle students with more debt brWe have a very real RD shortage in my area and I am hoping this will force employers to pay more We will see Comment from : Lori Stevens-The CHF Dietitian |
Nursing is a super hard career though The board is on joke so you’ll probably have to get a BSN just to get the education But I’m an exercise science degree and dietitian for me would be more of advancing my career because I have to at this point lol Also, entry level dietitian make 40k but overtime you can make that 60-70k Especially with a masters Just my opinion Nothing in life is easy or fair I do agree nursing is better cater to pick but I don’t think the associates degree will be enough to pass that board exam I work with nurses currently in physical therapy and that’s what they tell me Comment from : The Ex-Sci Guy |
it aint easy I changed my career at 50 I have a degree in nutrition science but the RD test is a killer Took the exam 5 times and about to take it again Each time you pay $200 to take the test Frankly the academy is a cabal that is sucking the life of the people who want to be a dietitian The master requirement will remove many minorities from the field Did the academy consider this? probably Look at the set up The nurses are mostly black and the Dietitian are mostly white in many areas that I have observe i was the only minority in my internship out of Boston Don't get why it seems being a Dietitian is suppose to be so elitist but not making any money,brMany minorities communities have major health issues and would like to relate to someone from their background, who understand the connection to food and culture I have come this far so I ave to pass the test But the academy is uhhhhh horrible, horrible, horrible , horrible To make matter worse some internship don't want you to work for 8 months after they bleed you dry with the internship fee Do I sound bitter? I sure am you have to make your money outside of the traditional way if you want to make more money as a dietitian but that is a lot of work, after jumping through hoops to be a regular RD I am not officially an RD yet but has started marketing myself with my products Comment from : Wake Up |
I am currently enrolled in the Master's degree to become a Dietician I am 34 I am enrolled at Keiser They combine everything in one program 32 months You are correct about the grants being scarce, but they are theretrust me Nursing is horrible I have spent 20 years in the medical field That is my take I understand where you are coming from Comment from : Tierra Walker |
Is it possible to go to Dietetics graduate program if I already have a BA degree from another major? Should I go to undergraduate? I am confused because this man says we need to go to bachelor’s and master’s for Dietetics Comment from : Lindsey Choi |
I think people want to assume dietetics is an awful paying profession Pay depends on location and also job You can DEFINITELY find the money Also who forced the idea of having to start in a inpatient clinical job an an entry level? I passed my exam back in August and didn’t want to go into clinical I was patient and just accepted my first job offer for $66,000 I think it’s sad how much stigma is behind how awfully we are paid because from what I’ve seen just looking there are GREAT paying jobs out there Maybe not starting out but definitely down the road And even starting out yes You just can’t settle for inpatient clinical if you wanna make a decent wage Comment from : Caitlyn McDonagh |
I’ve been an RD for 11 years and I wholeheartedly agree with your statement at 1:11-1:20 There’s not a return on investment Too much education an not enough pay Comment from : Dr Williams |
This man is answering the important questions Comment from : Juan Velazquez |
I just graduated with my Master's degree I was offered fobs between 50 and 80k at the entry-level I do have large loans, mostly due to out of state education Comment from : Jon Brown |
I know someone Who makes 100 K a year after only one year of RD experience in California and their bachelors degree was in business he just had to take his masters, guys don’t get demotivated by this video Comment from : Yoooo |

Very insightful 👏🏽 👌🏽 Thank you! Comment from : QueenLadyRo |
I’m currently working as a dietitian in South Africa and it is the pits in terms of pay, we get about $1600 per annum I was even thinking of moving abroad to try and make more money, while getting more hospital exposure I want to change professions when I turn 30, or I’ll die poor Comment from : Mpumelelo Ndhlovu |
Listening this is already overwhelming Comment from : M Alva |
Thank you for making this video I was seriously considering going back to school to become a dietitian after already having a bachelors and masters not in nutrition this really made me realize it probably isn’t worth it, especially financially Comment from : Marley Opila |
Thanks so much for the honesty! I was thinking about dietician school but also needed the honesty! Comment from : The Johnsons Natural Living |
how much is the dietetic internship? Comment from : Samantha Chiu |
Hello sir,brDo mph in concentration nutrition have to give RD exam? I have studied nutrition and dietetics in India as I am currently flying to USA for studying masters in nutrition and Dietetics after that can we work in public health? Comment from : sakshi patel |
I am currently enrolled in a MS/DI program and I regret it so much I am about to head into my internship and I'm already looking at the job opportunities post-internship and it is not worth it at all My state is also one of the lowest paying states for dietitians; it's abysmal I've already begun looking at AAS degrees for physical therapy assistant (PTA) and radiology technologist (the pay is higher than what I would make as a dietitian with a master's) and I wish I would've just done something like that to begin with Please, if you're looking into the field of dietetics, don't do it There's other careers out there with a better return on investment and a much higher level of respect in the medical community Comment from : Anna Duke |
Any advice for those who’ve already made a decision to become an RD? Comment from : Magdalena Niemiec |

Very honest and helpful video Thank you 👏 Comment from : E A |
This was very good insight I your honesty here because I was going to switch careers also, & just learned that they are not going to require a Masters degree Started having doubts and ran into this video I see this as my sign to go ahead and look into RN, which was my second option 😂brThank you ❤️ Comment from : TexasStardust11 |
The hoops you have to jump through to become a dietitian are ridiculous Realistically, who has the finances to take a year off from work to do an unpaid internship that costs $10,000 or more, and pay for living expenses? brbrWhen I began my 4yr degree in Nutrition, I did not realize that the internship Inwould do at the end of the program, is not a typical internship I have an interview with a distance internship, and currently looking for rotation sites Comment from : Jessica Gould |
The future education model you mentioned, combining Masters program with dietetic internship, is this what is referred to s Coordinated programs? Comment from : Emma Berrelleza OBrien |
PREACH!!! I made such a bad choice to be in the program or field and thats just so incredibly sad I just shouldn't have tried so hard for so long Anyways any male dietitians want to join my new reddit group r/MaleDietitian There arn't that manny of us and after a bad experience on r/dietetics i figured we all need a safe space to talk about our experiences as men and dietitians Comment from : Jordan Smith |
Hi Germaine! Great content! brWhat do you think about Distance Dietetics Programs? I have a bachelor’s in Business but thinking about switching careers Comment from : Magdalena Niemiec |
I was actually a nursing major before switching to dietetics I'm 22, a senior in college and will finish my bachelor's in nutrition to go on to my internship I look at indeed jobs everyday and see what jobs are available to dietitians to see what I'd be looking forward to and to be honest it's not bad at all I live in Texas and Texas is very busy in medical care I really think you as a person need to know what money bracket you need to be in I don't need to be a millionaire I simply want a nice house and food on the table If I can survive with that while still doing something I enjoy for work, I'm not letting anyone scare me away from my passion Comment from : Mekaylah |
Im a RD and i agree! Go for nursing, folks!! Comment from : frdnl a |
I also wanted to know what jobs can I do as a nutritionist? Comment from : Ashleigh Lai |
Hello I am finishing my Bachelor's in Nutrion and Dietetics but I cannot afford at the moment to the didactic program to a become an RD So this helped me open my perspective of what other options I can go in to Comment from : Ashleigh Lai |
Good points made! Comment from : Brian Bowers |
@eatrightguy I very much agree with the idea of not switching in regards to finances However, not all second career dietitians want to go into nursing Also, right now with the pandemic, the pay is good, but it must be rife with other challenges?? I feel like there needs to be a way for all of us to advocate/lobby for better pay the way nurses have Comment from : Danielle D |
But if Nutrition/Health is my passion, wouldn't it be better to just find another career in that field that is more worth it than being a Dietitan? I've thought about my career choices a lot because I don't think I'm gonna meet that 2024 Masters deadline brIs a food science/human nutrition degree worth it without having to be a Registered Dietitian?brWhat other careers in that field would you recommend? Comment from : crwned |
Hi Germaine, brbrtowards the end of the video you briefly mentioned dietitians on social media I noticed you follow a lot of the dietitians I follow on IG as well who have their own practice, are pretty much entrepreneurs They claim how much they love their job, talk about how much money they make One follower in particular talks about how she easily makes 50K/month I was just wondering your thoughts on this Do you think these dietitians on social media are really as successful as they portray themselves, or do you feel its just an advertising tool to pick up other dietitians (clients) to try and go into business with them and buy their packages? Comment from : Greg Zacarese |
I for one do not envy nursing at all I just got off the phone with one of my nurses the other day saying how much she takes ibuprofen and she be hurting I hear that from a lot of other nurses too I like to come and go as I please on my job as a RD As a RD with two jobs under 40 hours a week , I make pretty good There’s too much to consider for nursing I’m good on that Nursing is not for everyone That’s some mental and back breaking work Unless you are going to do something like telehealth or within an office Comment from : Cece Princess |
Does this apply to Canadians? Please answer Comment from : R |
Definitely have a terrible ROI for my dietetics schooling Would not recommend becoming an RD for this reason Comment from : Chris K |
Agree 👍 Comment from : treal512 |
I'm an ICU RD (been one for 4 years) with a Master's Degree currently in $63k (started out with $90k), I only get paid $53k a year I'm currently in the process of taking pre-reqs classes for PA school Double the money for same amount of debtbrbrBeing an RD is not worth it The academy is not your friend Comment from : Brittany Rouse |
Just putting it out there about the student loans, I got my BS from Kansas State University and my MS from Ohio State University (I did their MSDI program) and I'm looking at over $160k in loans Granted, I walked out and immediately into a federal position as a public health nutritionist/ outpatient dietitian and LOVE my job, but yeah - not thrilled about how much I paid to do what I love Comment from : Ashley Barto |
As a dietitian in private practice, I think this was the perfect career move Much more money and control over my time Plus, I get to practice my passion :) Comment from : mhknutritionclinic |
Can you make a video on how to negotiate pay as an entry level dietitian? Comment from : bryanplaysdrums |
Thanks for your honesty I'll keep trying to find a new career lol Comment from : Lisa L |
Thank you for this I watched your videos two years ago and decided to career change from being a fine dining cook in NYC to becoming a RD My college is telling me, I won't make the cut off rime for the Internship, so now I have to get a master's degree which I was not planning on taking I thought if I started a year and a 1/2 ago like I did I would be fine but now they're telling me I would have to have started my internship in in February, March 2022 and since I'm not I'm going to miss that deadline It's so hurtful cause I thought I did everything right only to find out I still need to go and get a master's degree br Not sure what my next step is going to be now because I won't be able to make the cut off time for just a bachelor's degree requirement to become an RD And I'm 39 lol smh I love the nurses out there but that's not for me Comment from : heart in italy |
I have followed your channel for years now Graduated 2 years ago with my RD and masters and I f*cking hate it Hate working clinical I am eager to transition out as soon as possible (which I’m working on) Always love your content! Comment from : Ecstatic Butter |
I appreciate the honesty too but damn this just threw me off :( I'm 26 and was still looking for my "niche" and found it in nutrition I've been doing so much research and have been considering going back to school for RD I currently work as a Medical Assistant at a Pediatrics office in NYC and know 100 I do not want to become a nurse I do not like that type of patient care interaction I'm not a kid person I was considered PA but again I am already leaning towards RD Comment from : Karina Reyes |
This was extremely insightful I appreciate all your honesty in this video! Thank you so much for making this and speaking so much truth Comment from : Stevie Siluano |
