A substantially long video for a substantially interesting character However, based on the gravity of his reign, I still consider this video "Brief" Nevertheless, I don't foresee any video on this channel being longer than this one I hope you all are well Cheers! Comment from : Brief History |

All of the Tudor Monarchs were each singularly exceptional to be surebrThis video is the best for it's scope I think I have heard thus far There arebrexcellent Tudor historians which I'vebrread My personal favorite might bebrAlison Wier; biographies of peoplebrand events so thorough, detailedbrand well researched, brthat it actually seems odd that shebrwasn't there herself; extensivelybrquoted, footnoted, with an enormous Bibliography so the reader can research many primary sources for themselvesbrI like how she challenges other materialbrand would pose questions or even disputes claims regarding many diverse events citing insufficient evidence and exposing obvious fabrications I also like that she tours with the reader through so much more than military campaigns and Noble Ecclesiastics; allowing the reader to see food, fashions, Palace and Castle interiors and furnishings, -breven talking about the different pets which were owned Henry's Fool, - Will Sommers is also included, - and much more that makes your reading experience so much more intimatebrI, for myself, want also to know how the 'common' man lived History in my opinion is SO very much more than Aristocrats, advantageous marriage alliances among the Nobles and war statistics History for me anyway, is so much more than Country politics and confinements to the Tower Alison Wier is singularily attentive to all the little personal things and Cultural folkways that actually make the reader, brnot just an observer, but an actual witness to the domestic half of historybrBesides, if I were to magically show-up somewhere on the English frontier somewhere in the sixteenth century, and I had a choice, - one of pomp, title, and position in the Court, or as an apprentice Blacksmith or Tavern-keeper brin some village or hamlet, - I know where I'd be happiest Yes I know of the potential hazards, but History for me means that window through which I can wtness ordinary people living and dreaming, working, laughing, crying and loving, just like me Comment from : Jack Reynolds |

The work that it takes to make these videos really pays off Thanks for upöoadingbrHenry's cherry picking of the bible's (many) contradictions was so obviously biased, bc levirate marriage was actually the base for dispensations regarding royal marriages, such as his own Comment from : Renias vA |

excellent insight your very educated in English history, fantastic listen and in some points jaw dropping information with a glass of wine and my pipe on the sidebrtyranny aside Henry was on many occasions betrayed which only lead to his paranoia playing a part in his thirst for beheadings as he was feeling surrounded by traitors Comment from : daz lee |
|
I enjoyed the focus on foreign policy, a much overlooked aspect of Henry's reign Comment from : RogerJJSmith |

Not an expert on Tudor history, but I'm wondering if Henry had Anne executed because he suspected that she had Catherine of Aragon poisoned Hear me outthe Tudors were suspicious of poison in general Anne had threatened to do this but the kicker is that, when Catherine died it was unclear to folks at the time what happened, and I think Henry had a "candlemaker" (catch all term) go there and preform an autopsy See stuff on the "black heart" Henry said to Fitzhenry that he was lucky that Anne was dead because she would have poisoned him Yeah, maybe that sounds like he may have been spouting off to cover himself from executing Anne, but you know he very well may have believed that Anne had Catherine poisoned Just imagine for a moment how mad that would make him But he played it cool? People assumed that when Henry got rid of Anne that she would go to a convent and were shocked when she got snipped But think about it-even though Catherine dyeing was advantageous to the king, if anyone would have had her killed that would have made him unbelievably mad In his deathbed and at other times, he let on that he knew the charge were trumped up obviously, everyone knew it That's my theory on it anyway No one will ever know for sure Comment from : Georgette Constant |

Henry the Eighth was a lecher, was supremely self indulgent and autocratic and greedy Destroying all those abbeys to loot them Self appointed King of the Church of England A reckless adventurer in France Master of the chop Likely a victim of syphilis I only admire him because he was a falconer, for they are magnificent creatures Comment from : DB Edwards |

In a way, king Henry is lucky he was such a tyrant If we didn’t know him the way we do, it would’ve been for how much of a failure he was as a king He basically failed at everything he did and left his heirs nothing but debt All the other monarchs seemed to think of him as an overgrown child and treated him as such Comment from : Kun Lee |
|
I loathe him A total creep and jerk Comment from : Nancy Quon |

Thank you so much for going more into detail about the political maneuvering that was taking place over Henry's relationships Very few historians when they make You Tube documentaries, go into this aspect of Tudor history with such meticulous detail that you put into it Comment from : ilikethisalready |

One of the best books to read is "Henry VIII" by Derek Wilson It covers the political and religious climate of the times Of course his wives were an important aspect of his reign, but this book is not focused on his lovers and scandals There's plenty to read out there about the wives (fiction and non-fiction), but a great deal of it is pure conjecture Comment from : TOPCAT 8888 |

The two years between marriages to Arthur and Henry were horrific for Catherine Her father (Ferdinand) refused to complete the dowry bestowed upon her marriage to Arthur She lived in isolation and poverty, writing home to her parents that her clothes were threadbare and she and her ladies were literally starving She wanted to return to Spain as a widow, but Henry VII held her hostage Comment from : TOPCAT 8888 |

|
The most iconic king of England, but Henry VIII was no saint, and I don't praise him as one By the time of his death in 1547, he was the one king of England who had killed more people than any other monarch before or since brbrQueen Elizabeth I On the other hand, ended up using the fleet that her father had created to defeat the Spanish armada in 1588, and ruled for much longer time than her father did She also united the people a lot better than Henry VIII had done In my personal opinion Elizabeth I of England succeeded as a leader where her father had failed brbrGreat info! Tried so very hard to listen to and appreciate your narration I would encourage you to spend a bit of time with a diction coach, because you have a tendency to smack between sentences This is a particular issue with me as a misophone There are millions of usbrOur brains hear the noise over the information I wish I could unhear it, but I can’t, so I legit can’t watch your obviously well researched and intellectually presented post Comment from : Chrissy Stepford |
|
Thank you for an informative article on Henry the viii he's one of my favourite kings and I really liked the way you didn't go on and on about his wives which is what a lot of articles are about to make his reign more juicy yet he actually achieved a lot more than that brThank you again Comment from : Tabatha Cattle |

I've watched many documentaries on Henry the 8th, & all of them are very interesting I really love history, American history British history and Irish history But I'm sorry, I just don't think that all the hype they've given him throughout his life, & his reign!!! He was not that attractive but that's is just my point of view As a woman He may have been tall & he may have been athletic when he was younger But the man was dog s*** f*b***/b ugly" sorry that's just my opinion And he was not a very nice person, how many of his wives he killed that's crazy Comment from : Carolyn Batson |
