I think one could change the title of this video, as 'legal' has nothing to do with the First Amendment rights of free trade, travel, speech, barter, or other human interactions God has ordained A law forbidding the freedom of manufacturer's prices to the consumer is not the business of civil government Comment from : @charlesgillihan |

Tuned in AGAIN and found more incredible examples of GEN / 6 7 8 and beyond panel speakers My 2x4 acoustic panels I made still perform without any Buzz and rattling due to a surface speaker being used I was thrilled to see the Rockville Blue tube amps lined up for this demo I use the same 4ohm amp for mine Sound is just right there IF you add a sub woofer to bring in more BASS Without Top end clearness that has to be heard to believe Tech Ingredients, Continue to waste no time with these projects BRAVO 🤟 Comment from : @user-ee6hj6je6m |

Do you have drawings or plans or blueprints i can dl? Comment from : @RyykerHendrix-hg8wm |

I suspect that if the test subjects could listen to popular copyrighted music that they were familiar with, they would have given an even better rating to the speakers Free music is typically not produced with the highest quality sound equipment, due to the fact that it can be expensive Comment from : @jackspence625 |

@TechIngredients I wonder how the mass of the exciter relative to the panel's surface/mass affects things there isn't frame like a traditional speaker that clearly make one part stationary and the other vibrate In this case both are free so there is inertia at play Right? Would be interesting to test If hung on frog the ceiling does this change the characteristics as gravity is pulling the exciter onto the panel Comment from : @sleekspeed22 |
|
The speakers your described and built reminded me of the old Magna Planer electrostatic, but they used to cost an arm, a leg, and a kidney Don't know if they're even made any longer Comment from : @perniciousprogressive8333 |

what will happen if you glue flat ballon (and how to made that type of ballon) to the back filled with helium? will lower frequencies be more present? I will also love to see speaker made from metal sheet backed (glued) with automotive sound dampening asphalt mat Comment from : @bartoszskowronski |

Linus Tech Tips recently went after the issues of not being able to statistically compare audio devices and not being able to convey that to an audience over YouTube… and purchased a HATS (Head And Torso Simulator) which they now use in any video related to audio They’re an expensive investment, but my understanding is that listening to the result on reasonably affordable studio monitoring headphones (my pick is the $90 Sony MDR-7506) is fairly faithful to the original environment There’s still the issues of YT compression, etc but IMHO that’s no reason to throw out the baby with the bathwater Comment from : @slippydouglas |

Do you still need a sub with these? Comment from : @simonhill6267 |

I always love your experiments You always inspire me to tinker and try new stuff A couple of questions If I made my Polystyrene panels 6 feet tall would that be large enough to get bass response down to 80hz ? Also, are you powering these with tube amps? How would these panels fare using better amplification that doesn't introduce so much distortion? Comment from : @donalddluckerii3147 |

what is the difference between using these specific exciters and a voice coil from a high powered speaker? Comment from : @adamdevmedia |

Im thinking about making some for my 79 chevy c10 single cab, there is not much room for speakers and im thinking headliner speakers like this would sound awesome Comment from : @countrymechanics803 |

A common tool for testing/configuring professional sound systems is Open Sound Meter or Smaart I would be interested to see an impulse response curve of these speakers you've created along with the group delay compared to modern studio monitors I'm also curious why we're not talking about the fact that arrays of speakers will cause constructive/destructive interference when they are placed at different distances from the listener For the most accurate listening experience, you would not want the sound waves from multiple speakers to be reaching the ears at different times Professional audio engineers spend a great deal of effort to ensure proper time and phase alignment at the listening position I'm not seeing any discussion of these principles regarding these speakers No doubt the accuracy of the audio would improve by simply ensuring all speaker signals reach the ear at the same time using electronic delays Comment from : @kellyj1464 |
|
I've made and used speakers like these for yearsbrYou can trim and shape to suit your sound Remember the golden ratio? Use it here to tune your sound even morebrI love these speakers! They truly are spectacularbrYou can carve faucets into your foam - i use pink insulation foam board- to tune one end for clearer tones on whichever end you like, or both, evenly mixing bass mid and treble to suit your tastesbrThey work GREAT for recording boothsbrYeah Never going back Comment from : @thefedup9921 |

I wonder if designing these to the golden ratio, and positioning the driver so that it divides the length and width by the golden ratio would be optimal It's ubiquitous in nature, so why not try it? Comment from : @RAndrewNeal |

Cutting edge technical and material know how applied to real life DIY projects - and some less so It's absolutely brilliant - and such a delight to watch Some projects can be stacked, allowing for even greater results Marvellous!
br
brI would like to build some speakers like these myself Could you provide me with some online links to the materials? I live in Denmark, so I can't just look at the materials and say: "Oh yeah, I know what that is - I saw that in Walmart last time I was there" I need to know what materials to look for because I probably can't find identical ones Comment from : @user-in6lb4pl6l |
|
I am curious if you could use a polyethylene cutting board material to use as an outdoor setup on a deck I guess the other question is could you secure top and bottom to stop them swinging in the wind? Comment from : @whoisjohngalt-hg5us |

I believe 80Hz is about right for the lower crossover frequency, above that people can start to detect where the low frequencies are coming from, but just how large would the panels need to be to achieve 80Hz? Comment from : @engjds |

Would allowing people to see the system beforehand affect their opinions? The build seems odd, which would load their expectations They are friends and I really don't fault the pizza party, but that might affect the replies we've seen :) Could there a suitable material for sub freqs which shares this design? I am also curious if the hinge would affect these lower freqs Instead of using strings to suspend the top two corners, do you think quality could be improved by suspending the boards in a way that doesn't act like a hinge? Surely this would make a small difference, but my idea would be to attach springs to all four corner and let the board hang facing downwards A vertical facing implementation might resemble those old fashioned radio microphones Great video! Have you considered directly mounting a driver to the chair, instead of using a subwoofer? If so, what kind of driver would you use? Thanks for the quality content Comment from : @Otatou |

The snazzy intro nearly put me off but I have followed your work for some time and stuck with it WOW! brI cannot agree that even exceedingly expensive headphones are "the gold standard" simply because they cannot do the same job as how human ears are positioned by evolution but understand why you asked the question of ordinary people whose experience of sound is less likely to be a concert hall than cans -- partly so as not to annoy the rest of the familybrHeadphones can by quite damaging in our first 25 or so years both to ear mechanisms but also to the aural processing parts of the brain which we do not understand and will not for years to comebrWhat your experiments achieve so well is the need to have actual air space and not just the small volume open back headphones tend to havebrRemarkably, you are discovering anew the physics of sound long after the Ancient Greeks got very close Comment from : @stephenhall3515 |

Playing loud music is a lawful issue for the community whilst making constant noise if airplanes building machines underground trains is not a lawful issue That's not fair Loud sounds can shake the brain in children whether music or mechanical instruments Producers meant to wear protective sponges in ears during producing Helium can help build walls Normally studios use foam covered walls Reducing echoes Comment from : @melk33 |

Cant wait for you to productize! Im buyin! I cant help but imagine a horizontal application to replace hung ceiling panels I realize they cant be set into a hung ceiling frame and have to “float” but hung from all corners could workbrbrHow large of a panel can this work on? Comment from : @Chasethisbread |
|
How well do these work in larger environments: 75' x 150' ? If I heard you correctly, if mounted properly, you could use them as sound dampening panels as well Our church building has lots of echo and we are considering the cost of sound deadening panels We are also needing to replace a blown-out speaker So, could/should we consider combining the two, making them both speakers and sound dampening panels? Comment from : @tolliecorder |
|
wondering if you CNCd thinner timber and laminated them together to gain more resonance from the layers how different the sound would be Im an audiofile, but a wood worker at the core A mixture of timbers to create timbre? Comment from : @karizma8175 |

I know you are proud of your videos so want to showcase them in an intro but for a video with a giant allcaps clickbait title nothing is more annoying than waiting for 2 minutes of intro to start getting anywhere near the content described It's a scam Comment from : @romancandlefight1144 |

|
So what exciters exactly were used? I would be interested of a weekend project Comment from : @arva1kes |
|
I am looking into making these speakersbrHowever, acoustic ceiling tiles are not readily available in Slovakia, at least not adequate onesbrThe ones I could source are very squishy and sound very muddybrWhat if I used 2 different sizes of XPS foam? As in both would use the same exciter, but one would be over 2x larger than the other, meaning it should have a better bass response right?brMaybe I could also change the thickness too, I presume the thicker the material, the more bass I can get out of it Comment from : @Lagggerengineering |
|
3D asmr would be awesome with this Comment from : @japhalpha |

It's funny because I bought all of my sound equipment from DIY Sound group and parts express also! Comment from : @davidscott5903 |

I’m sure you’ve probably thought of this, but is there an advantage to rectangle versus circular? It would seem that circular, or oval(ish) would match up to the driver itself, in regard to the phase of the wave being produced Comment from : @rachelbolyard1527 |

What's the acoustic efficiency of such panels? Comment from : @EdgarsLS |
