Hey guys, don't make the same mistake I did and pick Engineering Technology It pays well out the gate ($58k/yr for an Associate's) but is NOT the same as Engineering I'm almost done my degree and realized there is no way for me to earn more that $148k/yr in the future In the Engineering workplace, you're respected, but just a little more than a lowley Engineering Technician I can either finish my degree and get a good pay or take additional classes and re-do the non-transferrable ones to get an Engineering degree It's not even the same as a Technology Degree Apparently all my degree means is I'm qualified to be told what to do in an advanced capacity for about $29/hr Engineers start around $33/hour with an upper limit of around $229k/yr If you guys have any tips, please tell me I'm an easy-going listener

I work on the north slope of Alaska doing security/ medical work alongside the pipeline/ oil industry workers They told me to get a Ptech degree and it’ll translate directly into work back up here in the industry Granted, it’s convenient being in a state with such a massive amount of oil/ gas work

These programs could make sense for people with zero skills, but you don't need a degree to reach the $40k salary mark I feel like getting a degree that will pay that for five years isn't worth it and a bachelors with more earning potential would be preferable Look for blue collar B2B jobs and avoid anything customer service like the plague I make $45k with some overtime in manufacturing with just a little experience and HS diploma

I'm a tractor trailer driver I Make over 100k a year You can own your own truck and make 300k a year or more depending on what you haul My friend hauls fuel and owns he's own truck Makes 100000+ a day So I'm happy with just a high school diploma I used to be a systems analyst and worked as a network engineer, self taught and studied my certifications A+ network+ security+ passed when these tests were granted lifetime, and ccna But I hated the cubicle type setting And working the 9 to 5 However trucking is not for everyone I love seeing the country and traveling from State to State For me it's priceless

something i've always found funny is that my pops is from rural mexico in one of the poorest states in the country didn't graduate high school but now has 3 homes 2 in texas and 1 in mexico add to that like 3 more plots of land that he lets people rent on top of that he make damn near 100k on a good year and can go on 2 week vacations and my sister born here in the states into a middle class family and went to a pretty good school doesn't have her own place and is in debt my pops works in the trades and my sis works in insurance so call me crazy but i think i'll pick up a nail gun instead of a pen

I looked into radiation therapy years ago, but the job market was not good in my state You actually have to research that job demand in your area before starting the program, since it’s high pay/less college time… it ends up being too many professionals , fewer opportunities

Biomedical Engineering is not an Associate's degree; you were probably referring to Biomedical Engineering Technology Almost all "Engineers" including Biomedical Engineers require 4yr Bachelors while 'Engineering Technicians" eg Biomedcial Engineering Technician/Technologist often only need Associates
