I left teaching this past spring after 12 years It was for all the reasons you alluded to as well as what you described as your biggest reasoncreating something in your classroom that was not respected and was even demolished by new admin Teachers are not treated as the professionals they are and everyone is suffering for it Perfect idea to set out on your own No one can demolish what you've built when you are in charge of it Best wishes

Why not start a school for the kind of teachers you want to see in the classroom, and for the type of students you desire to teach No one should ever stay on a job that is not good for their health, livelyhood, nor family

You had those tools and left Good teaching is not it Teachers will still have to quit and you will become more and more out of touch with what happens in the classroom The everyday agony will fade in your mind while in the real world things are still continuing to deteriorate There are plenty of good teachers out there Its about good admins and school systems that dont suck Nothing will change until these last two change

Wrong mate The micro-management will never allow teachers to be true teachers I tried The answer was always NO We have to follow orders That is it In the last stages of my teaching I question nepotism at my school It went very bad They bullied me out of teaching for good

I’m with you and on your side in life I just can’t help feeling like you are going to attempt to teach teachers to teach and feel the way you could not yourself It’s much easier to teach people how to teach and not be teaching But if your ideas really work why are you leaving? I think, and I’m guessing really, it’s because you can tell people how to put a band aid on a HUGE broken system, but actually doing it and being in an environment that won’t let you is something you can’t teach You have to know how to do the best you can in a broken system and set your mind that it is enough to do your best I don’t think that is teachable I’ve been teaching 25 years and I know how to be creative, inspire and literally turn a kid around Not all but many I’m so proud of that but it is literally giving up a part of your life and dreams for other things You are showing it’s not possible to do bothbr I say this with the utmost respect to you for trying and will watch to prove myself wrong I hope brThe system is so broken and really the politicians and society in general don’t care because if they all cared really they would force change Seriously wish you the best I’m out here rooting for you I’m sure people will buy into it though and you’ll be able to make a living You seem like a genuine man and like I said I hope I am wrong

I left my school after 19 years this year for some of the very reasons you stated It's not about educating the kids anymore, at least not at the school I was in It used to be an amazing district with teachers who were inspiring and working hard to make sure the kids were learning Since Covid we have changed superintendents twice and they each have brought in their own people The people they have brought in are only there for a paycheck and not for the kids or the teachers For the last several years I stuck around thinking it would get better, but alas it has only worsened Teachers who are friends with admin who did very little teaching were given praise and pats on the back, while veteran teachers were pulling the weight of the school The climate of the school became toxic and by the end of the year it became very clear that this would remain the new norm After having a conversation with administration regarding these concerns I received what I can only refer to as divine intervention I went back to my classroom and an hour later I received an email from another school district that wanted to interview me for a position This was like God slapping me upside the head saying it was time to move on I start my new position in a new district this week, and I pray that it will bring back the joy I once had with teaching Good luck in your own future journey

After my 32 year Air Force career, I started Subbing in 2019 The public schools in So Cal are run like prisons and the students reflect that Teachers are prison guards and principals and assistant principals are wardens that blam teachers for everything

Holy cow, I remember being super inspired by your work when I first started becoming a teacher and now I’ve left the classroom too Really shows how bad the education system has gotten Still love teaching, but not like this Im a good teacher, just never got the chance to show that between extremely disruptive and disrespectful behavior that I had no support with, parents, the works I was a baby sitter at the end Nobody took me seriously I spent 3/4 of each class teaching my students how to act like a student rather than teaching art All as a first year teacher trying to figure out who and what I was doing myself It was hell on earth

Relationships and Leadership matter! I’m sorry the leadership didn’t bring you in to discuss what they could have done to make the school better As a former principal I worked with teachers not try to boss them around It is challenging for school leaders as well because you get promoted and demoted based on politics not student achievement and growth

Hi Reynolds, a Teacher herebrAfter 2022, I left my teaching job and couldn't get myself to apply for a teaching jobbrTeaching is such a hard job, not because of the students, but as you have stated, "the number of decision that are made that are unethical" The pressure from administration to make the school into "a day care center" where teachers have to tip-toe around to NOT get sued, was too much Lawyers in the US, have ultimately saved, yet also ruined the educator experience brbrIt's a complicated issue, and I worry for the future of education

I hope they realized what they lost when you walked I've followed you and implemented some of your ideas in my own classroom for the last 3 years and its so disheartening to see that the teacher exodus has reached you as well My principal is putting pressure on me to commit to next year but I just can't do it Last year almost killed me, I went on meds for the first time in my life The responsibilities and the pressure to perform when the support is just not there (or the pay) is why my school has seen a massive turnover in recent years as well Wishing you the best and looking forward to seeing what this new chapter brings you!

I taught high school English from 1991-1997 in NC and earned 23k a year I’m an atheist but I too felt it was a “community service” if you will I resigned giving a one year notice so the students did not blame themselves I have substituted off and on before the pandemic and sad to report that not much has changed
