Old video but fun little tidbit, a lot of Pieces of Eight have holes already in them This wasn't due to the wreck or erosion or even modern man Back in the 18th, 17th, and 16th centuries they would put a hole through their coins to prevent thievery but also as a status symbol as having silver meant you were of high status

Never knew the origin of this style of jewelry I actually have a pair of earrings with small coins just like this, the coin is encased in gold I believe i got them for my 12th birthday, and they are actually screw backs if I remember correctly (I'm not 100 sure about that, I'll have to look at them again as I haven't worn them in years) They always seemed a little odd to me because the coins look old and not perfectly round (my mother picked them out for me) I believe the gold casing is what made them look more round I should look at them again and see them up close!

I have never heard of this term, I know that my husband's mom has a coin from a sunken ship I am wondering now if that is what her's is, I will have to look at it next week when we go to see her Her's is actually gold I love coin jewelry, this was very interesting Jill XOXO
