I have been an ESL/EFL teacher at all levels for 26 years at colleges and universities in the US and Mexico You are correct about the value of teaching the target language grammar in the students' first language! In my classes, I always introduced new grammar in the students' first language and contrasted the English form and use of it with their first language The majority of my students progressed much more confidently than students in immersion courses Unfortunately, teachers tend to jump on "bandwagons" that sound good without basing them on research I have had many, many students from immersion programs tell me that they couldn't learn a second language, but who did quite well with grammar support in their first languagebrbrThank you for this series of videos!
