I've been a numismatist for 55 years This is a good video He's basically saying if you like the coin, if it appeals to you then buy it, but just know that you might be buying something that will bring little or no return for your money Buying coins because you like how they appeal to you is very easy Buying a coin that will increase in value takes lots of education and research

I buy “unsearched” wheaties sometimes BUT I first check and see if the seller is selling errors and varieties I know there won’t be any key dates and probably no major doubled dies, but I’ve found so many woodies/lams/rpms/die breaks/common or minor doubled dies and even a sweet dropped letter in a BU roll once! A lot of sellers don’t care about minor errors and varieties so they can be a lot of fun to buy if you like those things like I do!

Think about thisthe current trend of buying ms69-70 red Lincoln cents for THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS is a trend that will self implode over the next few years as people realize they are buying a plastic holder with a super high grade coin as most 66-67 coins in holders if the grade is hidden can't really be seen as much, if any difference, and the price is substantially less!

I get what youre saying about the barber quarters and halves in mid level grades, however id have to disagree so long as theyre a precious metal and dont get damaged to the point where the grade would drop, I highly doubt youll lose $ in the long run especially when were talking silver or gold coins which probably WILL go up in value simply cause of what theyre made out of Still today theres a pretty big market for seated liberty quarters halves and dimes, braided hairs, flying eagle cents, etc the 1800 stuff I dont believe americans will EVER lose interest in american history which those coins will forever be apart of I think all old coins are fairly safe to buy so long as theyre not beat to shit Older coins are literally history in your hands, and I dont think that will ever NOT be cool

I’d say this is pretty spot on minus one thing All the modern commemoratives that come out of the westpoint mint (specifically the ones in gold) are great coins and I believe will retain their value and appreciate over the long run br2008 gold buffalo 1/4 (about the size of a buffalo nickel) br1999 w gold Washington 1/4 (the brought the design by LGF to life in 2022) br2016 W mercury, standing liberty and walking liberty in gold (Fantastic coins) brAnd the 2014 JFK half dollar in gold An absolutely brilliant coin brJust my thought Westpoint gold commemoratives are top of the list for me That being said, I’d rather them depreciate so I can buy even more

I disagree with #8 I think old stuff will always be appealing to somebody in the future and will buy simply because it is centuries old People may not pay an arm and a leg for everything but I can't see people just tossing old stuff like that aside as if it were trash If I found a shirt button, and somehow found out it was a 200 year old button, I'd keep it And I don't collect buttons

Yea, out of all the rolls I've ever bought on Ebay, the 2 that were actually OBW were a 69S Lincoln cent roll (subtle rainbow toning around the rim area on all 50 coinsgorgeous roll) and a 1956 Roosevelt dime roll brThere are no unsearched wheat rolls (except for same date) Someone searched them at some point in time

The commemorative dollars are cool if you hunt ebay for the older silver ones You can score some of them for like 25$ which is pretty cool Of course this is only if you like the design and enjoy proofs They probably won’t increase in value drastically but they do have the inherent silver value which will probably always be a few dollars less then you paid for it if silver stays around the same spot price as it is now

I would also add wheat pennies, they are not worth your time Morgan silver dollars are also very problematic as their prices have risen, a high percentage have been improperly cleaned, valuations can be all over the map and counterfeits do exist

Add to the list Silver Rounds that have the word "Copy" on the reverse Although they are disappearing as mint makers had a hard time selling these no one will trust any coin that has the word Copy on the reverse, even though it was a legitimate designation

unsearched rolls are high on the list for me say they don't make alot per roll but alot people are duped netting a huge profit thinking it really is unsearched i think depending on the set if there's a chance of $100,000 dollar coin you can bet it'll be searched, like he said you'll end up with roll dollar coins unless you like something about the coin art work or something more personal isn't worth

Low mintage is important Silver low mintage is great Unsearched rolls are pretty much BS Buy bu-au rolls from a trustworthy dealer How do I define trustworthy? They will accept their product back, and if it is in the same condition it was in when you got it, you get your money back, minus shipping, which you pay to send the coins back If they will not honor their product, do not do business with them, periodbrbrYou can sell bu-au old coins for a minimal profit, or even a small loss The profit comes when you charge a nominal shipping and handling chargebrbrOh, yes The old super rare "try to get 50k from a sucker" ads make me sick Ebay is not a buyer friendly environment They are the modern version of snake oil salesmen They should be charged with conspiracy to commit fraud along with the shysters that have taken up residence there

I constantly receive offers in my mail that hype "Limited edition coins" (Not monetary coinage and in the tiny print on the offers it always says "Layered in pure silver) These coins are base metal and sometimes they are attracted to magnets The coins have zero intrinsic value My elderly mother bought some before I found out and she paid $4495 For each coin This is why I have her contact me first Those coins are worthless I gave her some of my silver dollars and she was happy again I wonder how many older folks get ripped-of because they don't know the scam

My opinion: if you buy a coin (no matter what it is), than it seems to have a certain value/interest to you, otherwise you would not have bought itbrAnd if you are interested, there might be other people interested too If you want to sell this coin later, you just have to find those people brMight take some timebrLets say Star Wars coins, might not have a large value for numismatics, but possibly for Star Wars fans, when they are neat and rare
