If Bernard and Cheryl had instead said, "I do now," this would've made a little more sense Comment from : カツィCatzee |
Cheryl should realize that if the word were HAS that Albert would have an H or S and Bernard would not have hesitated if he had the other of H and S and would have said no if he had A so the word could not be HAS Thus there are 2 different cases where she can say yes & it could be either Comment from : Lyle Campbell |
I figured it out But there is a flaw By including the word “has” you inadvertently make it so the word could be dog OR catbrbrThe reason being Bernard and Cheryl had to think before saying “Yes” If either of them got H or S they wouldn’t have to think about it, so HAS is eliminated with BernardbrbrWhat this means is that for Cheryl cat has A as a unique letter and dog has D as a unique letterbrbrI only went with dog because there were so many As Comment from : Braden Sorensen |
The precise nature of the problem is not accurately at the start Comment from : Cavan Davidson |
The word could have been 'has' as well and it still would have worked out same Even if she got the A the positive response of the other two could indicate they both got the unique letter of that word Comment from : Myztick |
I completely misunderstood the premise I thought they were given one letter from different words, for example one person got a s from has and another got an a from max and another got a t from cat, and only one letter from any given word was allowed for example if the letter s came from has than h is not allowed unless it came from a different word Comment from : Sun Beames |
The question says that each person has a different letter, that each letter is from a word on the board, and that the people's letters together spell a word That can be interpreted as meaning that they have letters from different words, which together spell yet another word, that isn't on the board The additional word could have been his, six, sic, or cis Obviously, I did not solve the puzzle Comment from : Dan Wylie-Sears |
This was phrased terribly I thought each person had a unique letter, from a unique word each, and the secret word was a combination of those letters Comment from : Sam Sibbens |
Got the correct answer but did it rather different Comment from : Donnie Bao |
why couldn't X be one of the letters? Comment from : cecilia preziose |
@mindyourdecisions Presh, you are super smart, but you overlooked a very important detail that created a solution where there isn't one The fact that Bernard needed Albert's input to know the word means that he can't have the H or S His letter must be unique to a word that isn't Tag, but also must be in Tag By the time Cheryl comes up, the only options are Cat and Dog Her letter would be unique, and so she would know it, but we, as the audience can't deduce which one it is a both are logical Comment from : RedEyesBlackDragon0 |
I found another solution i think Albert gets s or h so knows it hasBernard gets a s or h so knows its has Cheryl gets a a and the word has to be hasthis can be tested by using the same method as in videoThis is kind of hidden by your colour coding of H & S both being green on last screenshot with the answer H & S should both have been coloured green and blue as Albert and Bernard both could have had either of these as stated earlier in the solution👍Thanks for the puzzles Love the channel ❤ Comment from : Lionel Tomich |
Is it just me or is the wording of this puzzle so unclear? Had to watch the solution to understand what the teacher was asking 😂 Comment from : YanoshDanosh |
It's not a proper puzzle when the instructions leave room for legitimate differences in interpretation Comment from : JD |
What if Albert had 'X'? He'd know the word since it's the only one with x in it The rest would know that to be the case when they replied Comment from : Scott Mays |

And all three children went home and killed their Hamsters Comment from : Neil Durkin |

I didn’t figure this out Comment from : Think again |

After a year working on this and not spoiling the answer, I finally got it! Thanks for the motivation @MindYourDecisions ! Comment from : le09idas |
This question doesn't state the assumptions that Bernard and Cheryl correctly deduce the word from the previous details! Comment from : Robert Nabholz |
The answer could have been QUE… because you said the paper contains a DIFFERENT letter from one of the letters in the board Your directions were crap Comment from : kckcmctcrc |
I did not understand the question I though there was a different word from the ones written on the board, and the students were trying to figure out a pattern to predict the next word Comment from : Shawn Ravenfire |
,just i Comment from : Joseph Wang |
The way the words are makes this confusing Different letter means they each have the same word but in each paper there are different letters of that word Comment from : NEOCHRIS POGI |
I do not agree with this logic Considering Bernard needed "a moment of thinking" to say yes, that means his letter could not have been either h or s Which means the word "has" could have been also disregarded by Cheryl, leaving her with two possibilities: cat or dog, depending on her letter (a or d) But we cannot predict the word based on this This could be solved if Bernard does not take a moment to think Comment from : bensadventuresonearth |
This is an easy question Cause everyone knows that the bird is the word! Comment from : Ray YT |
hmm Albert would only know his letter, and if unique he would know the word right awaybrBernard would also know his letter, so he would know his letter and would have to look for 1 unique letter to go with it, so that should be very quick toobrCheryl would also know her letter, so if she had D the word could be dog or dim, o is unique and so is i, so Cheryl is the only one who had to actually work it all out Comment from : John G |
Why nobody said that ruling out "tag" - after Albert‘s answer - automatically makes the G & T unique letters & consequently, the sequence could have been as follows:brAlbert gets the letter C and immediately answersbrBernard gets the letter T and based on the assumption that he’s an infallible logician realizes after thinking about it that his T is in a word containing a unique letter - based on Albert‘s answer -brAnd Cheryl getting the letter A can immediately rule out „has“ based on the fact that Bernard didn’t answer immediately and the word „max“ because in this case Bernard would have gotten the letter „m“ that also appears in the word „dim“ and he wouldn’t have been able to give an answerbrHence she can deduce that the word is „cat“ Comment from : أبو عبدالرحمن |
But what logic did Albert use, so he could answer yes? Comment from : DM |

I thought we had to find the seventh word… Comment from : PenguinMan |
Does his solution assume that Bernard is just kind of slow? Otherwise he wouldn't have to think for a moment if the word was has, as Alberts answer shouldn't have affected him at all The answer should be able to be dog OR cat Comment from : _Moops |
got answer in 3 second Comment from : Malik Mustafa |

Honestly, this puzzle made zero sense I feel as if there were a few leaps of logic that don't quite add up, especially with just outright removing potential words from the equation But what do I know Comment from : Averath |

I thought it was "has" because there are 2 unique letters that the boys could have gotten and from them saying both said "Yes" Cheryl was able to deduct that it was "has" I think it could go either way Comment from : Thirzy |
Albert outright knows the wordbrSo the letter on his paper must be unique for all words on the boardbrThe only unique letter in all words is the letter 'i'brSo the word must be 'dim' Comment from : PJW 🇳🇱 |

You need to provide more information!brI did not know (because you never expressed all of the rules or intentions) - MAKE YOUR QUESTIONS BETTER!brLike your channel - but DO NOT like vagueness or assumptions when dealing with these puzzlesbrYou need to be more SPECIFIC!brPresh might want to quit thinking himself so smart - and allow others to get the answer (because he actually provided us with info)brOR just - keep providing less info - and let your head expand :)brDo you notice 1,100 likes on Wolf Val's comment "I am struggling to understand the damn question"? To me the correct answer is HAS cause is the only word that have 2 unique letters By the point of view Cheryl she would know that the world must have 2 unique letters Comment from : Sandro Gois de Oliveira |

The question was poorly worded I initially assumed that each paper contained different letters than the words written on the board Comment from : Hagbard Celine |

The question is incomplete, it never says we’re even searching for a word from the board It just says all students have a letter from one of these words The letters however could eg be forming a totally different word like “tax” or anything that’s made of these same letters Had it said “secret word from the board”, the question would have been clearer Comment from : yannickbehrendt |
This is like the first puzzle I've gotten right in a matter of seconds 😳 Comment from : Thee N |

Your explanation is so laboured and slow, it sounds PATRONISING! Please accept that, although there is a mix of intellect and native language speakers present in your audience, none of them , by virtue of their choosing your subject, is of a low IQ! Please treat us with a modicum of respect and desist with the projected pauses and the over emphasis of benign points Comment from : Henry Roscoe |

The question fails to specify that the secret word is one of the six on the board and not another set of 3 letters Comment from : howiecd |

I don't understand how Albert knew right away Comment from : W H |
i retyped this because I was a little toxic beforehand:brbrThe only answer to this puzzle is dog No matter what you do Here's why:brbrEven if you considered the hesitation as a sign that Bernard may not have a unique letter Don't ignore the fact that Bernard said "yes"!!brbrHere's a question that might help you understand: Can Bernard say "yes", if he has a non-unique letter?brbr(He can't) Therefore he has a unique letter This is 100 the only answer There is no other way of solving this puzzle Comment from : HiroClaw |
I’m 15 years old, I was able to solve this one I’m really proud of myself! Comment from : Winkyfacw hater |

First of all, forget about the pause, it's a perfect logic answer so the pause could mean he's thinking but could also be deliberate, contemplative or unrelated and this possibility renders it irrelevant to the solution which is definitely dog
brFirst thing to understand is that they know the letters they have, I know that this might sound obvious but I don't think it is considering most of the comments I've been reading , we are the ones that have to figure out what letter each one has it would be extremely easy to figure it out if you were one of the players Now to the problem:
brThe first player definitely has a unique letter that would immediately eliminate TAG The second player despite of the pause could still have a unique letter which would mean the word is "HAS" but that would stump the third person with the letter "A" since she wouldn't be able to decide between "HAS" and "CAT" after considering the possibility that player 2 doesn't have a unique letter "MAX" could fit that criteria except that would mean player 1 got the unique letter "X" and player 2 the letter "M" but player 2 wouldn't be able to decide between "MAX" and "DIM" which also has a unique letter and an "M" Leaving DOG as the only logical answer and only to be discovered in that particular order Player 1 "O" Player 2 "G" Player 3 "D"
brPlayer 3 wouldn't be able to figure it out before Player 2 since the word "DIM" also has the letter "D" Comment from : Gyorkland |
gonna just write down my thought process to help me get it i guess
br
brno one at any point could have gotten an A, there are too many options this lets me narrow down the words to Dim or Dog
br
brFor Albert to know which word it is, he has to have gotten an O, H, X, or I, since I know it can't be word with an A, he either got O or I
br
brIf Bernard got an M, he doesn't know if it's dim or max because he doesn't know in real time if Cheryl can also tell what word it is based off her info, therefore she can't eliminate the word Max
br
brIf she got a D, there is no way of knowing if it's Dim, or Dog The only way she would know is if she got a G If Albert got an A or a T Albert wouldn't be able to tell what word it was so Bernard knows it can't be Tag which leaves only Dog, now Bernard knows the answer We already know the answer but let's continue to see how Cheryl figured it out
br
brWe now know based off this information that Cheryl got a D, which also leaves only Dim or Dog as possible options (same as we figured out) She can now use the same logic we used to figure it out for herself, that's how she knows it's Dog Comment from : Toupan |
We were never told the words would get eliminated Comment from : Bear 🐻 |
