I would like that someone adressed the narrow spacing on the fretboard on Eastman mandolin I have tested many and this seems to be similar for all Eastman mandolins I experience that I cannot play all tunes I know on these If Eastman would make a wide nut version I would by one at once

I have the MD515 and a Friend has the MD315 There is some difference in sound But the biggest difference I find is My MD515 has better frets in it making it play smoother The MD315 has skinny thin frets that are rather high making fretting it a little more difficult

515 No question Tone is significantly better and “rounder” brbrThe 315 is tinny and almost shrill at the high end

Iv tried both in a outside jam band back to back at the same timeThe 315 sounds more open woody pleasing by itself but,,,,the big but is the 515 cuts it with a dang loud banjo a lot better The 515 has that pierced sound that is needed in say a outside campground open air no mike help situation jamming with other picking buddies

515 has more brightness and cut in its tone, 315 sounds louder but both extremely close in sound so really a question of finish preference

I have the Md 305 (oval style of the 315) with the matte finish and the md 615 with the gloss finish I couldn't believe how loud the md 305 was or how good it sounded!! I attribute this to the finish which allows the wood to vibrate more freely, resulting in more volume and superior tone The 300 series from Eastman may be their best mandolins!

I bought the matt finish MD315 a couple of years ago and absolutely love it, it sounds exactly like this one, loud and woody, highly recommend it

I can definitely hear the difference between these two mandolins I like them both but think the one with the gloss has a more subdued sound and the matte finish sounds more open I would probably personally prefer the matte finish aesthetically as well as the tone quality Thanks for the comparison
