my theory is the market became less rational people didnt want safe old institutional investments, they wanted speculative investments they wanted tesla and other companies they all could pile their money into look what it led to, the covid bubble look where GE is now, better than ever because eventually people got tired of gambling on the underdogs and hype and wanted to put their money back into a historicallysound and safe investment and now GE is up nearly ten-fold

pretty wild that you'd be up almost 10x since the time of this video, as of late 2023 surprisingly they didnt peak during the covid bubble, it's only been since mid 2022 they've really picked up and recently hit a peak of $114 within the past few months while most other stocks peaked during covid and are only recently seeing any upward momentum after seeing massive falls meanwhile walgreens has tanked by over 75 on a consistent downward glide ever since taking GE's place on the DOW in 2018 and has become the DOW's worst performer even throughout the covid bubble walgreens never went above the price it had been when first listed on the DOW which is kind of crazy because thats the place i went for my covid shots, and like the first time ive visited the place more than twice within 6 months, probably ever

I'm going to be Debbie Downer Thomas Edison did not invent the light bulb the light bulb had already existed before Thomas Edison what he created was a commercially viable light bulb that would last long enough so that it would be sold to Consumers the light bulb had existed some well before Thomas Edison came along it was called Arch lighting and I believe the patent idea of a vacuum tube light bulb was patented in the mid 1800s but no one could create a light bulb that would last more than a couple of hours before the filament burnt up Thomas Edison and his relentless tireless Doggett on wavering testing was able to find the proper material for the filament that would last a significant length of time thus making a commercially viable light bulb but he did not invent the light bulb by the way his original vacuum sealed filament light bulb there's one still burning in a New York City Fire Station over 100 years later so take a suck at that next time your light bulb Burns Out

Might not hold a candle to on the topic, but back in the 50s there was an active GE plant in my town, Goldsboro NC It wasn't a huge part of the process, but they helped make components and wires It was shut down in 2010 and now it just sits at the edge of town as a white husk of what it once was

I was an employee for GE in 2007-08-09, GE stop investing in their development and started outsource every engineering to the point that most of their products a "supplier product badged GE" Electrodomestics were most a mexican MABE rebadged GE, their electrical power distribution was a Mexican Prolec + Danfoss + Cuttler Hammer Lighting business was outsourced to a chinese At 2008 their largest business was housing and banking and 2008 happened I believe their CEO wanted to emulate the car industry a bunch of suppliers providing the parts and the OEM just putting them together but you cant do that when you are buying to the ones you compete with

your not covering all the problem, the problem started in the early 1980's with the reagan tax revolution that allowed all these merger and acquisitions which provided no extra value but just a money game that is good on paper but does nothing for the company and the nation We can begin with Jack Welch who started and concentrated on short term profit thinking and left the company heading for disaster On the other hand you covered why Amazon is successful Amazon concentrated on marked share and market leadership something GE used to do before Jack Welch took over A lot of the companies you cover, GE, Kodak and so on also played money games but never re-invested in the company
