What an underrated channel Comment from : Callum van Heerden |

Would Dijkstra's algorithm pertain to the concept of finding the cheapest route from point to point? That only finds the shortest path, but isnt the shortest path usually cheapest?brbrI guess you would need a different Greedy Algorithm for that idk Comment from : Hasch |
nice video to explain a novice about the Algorithms thumbs up :) Comment from : Chitrank Dixit |
I used to always ask how many times i was supposed to "repeat" Comment from : glub glub |

The example he used to show what a algorithm is was a algorithm on how to wash your hair Comment from : nickm2137 |
Wry neck ? He looks kinda stiff Comment from : CastelDawn |
No you can't, not arbitrarily There are algorithms that have been proven to be mathematically undecidable See: Collatz Conjecture Comment from : J P |
and how is it different than other sequential and imperative programming? Comment from : Chen Sun |
I find that once I get my program running I'm mostly out of the woods It's not like
Segmentation fault (core dumped) Comment from : Ferroneoboron |

I wonder if it would be possible to subtitle this man, as he has somehow a difficult accent for non-native english speakers Thanks in advance Comment from : Fredi Vallina |
You neglect that software patents are often not to common-sense as going from place to place When fewer people know how to do a thing, there becomes scarcity, which is the source of an economy If the methods for doing something are hard to discover, patents encourage people to discover them for economic gain If done right, this can increase the quality of everyone's life in addition to the discoverer's Comment from : Nathan Bendich |
That's hardly the point Comment from : Nathan Bendich |
mkay Comment from : Jan Cajthaml |
Pfft, most people don't do a good job learning mathematics or physics Comment from : WintersunForever |
Just great, thanks for sharing! Comment from : Filax Kun |
most people dont realy want to either but our schoolsystems all over the western hemisphere are horrible for children indoctrination is the keyword nowadays providing basics and encouraging exploration of talents and interests is completly gone even the existing curiculum is based on minmaxing ideology now and i dont see how teaching programing should be mandatory for anybody Comment from : Zishy |

I expected Computerphile to have English subtitles like Numberphile because I can't hear you clearly I'm not a native English speaker Comment from : Chanchana Sornsoontorn |
but some extra footage for more advanced people would be great Comment from : R4stafa |
nevertheless, they should Comment from : spj |
Sounds more like Galloway to me Comment from : Scotty |
I envisage this man would be a regular here :) one would hope Comment from : daedra40 |
I think the analogies were a waste of time Explaining how to make a set of instructions to sort a series of numbers would have been much more instructive, while still being something that most people could follow And the real meaning of cost and performance would have been easier to illustrate Comment from : Riplash |
what language is he speaking? it sounds interesting i wanna learn that language Comment from : scikick |
Tell him to look at the camera instead of you :D Comment from : Ben Anderson |
why is there so much line bar paper floating around lol Comment from : treaps |

This is only an introduction Comment from : Jay Wilkins |
If you are learning algorithms it is exactly like a math class! (complete with proofs, yay!) If you are learning programming, not so much There is a difference between the two Comment from : Jay Wilkins |
This is a channel run by numberphile Comment from : Simon Burgess |

Mono is an implementation of the Net Framework that is cross platform C# is a much more powerful and unique language than most give it credit for It may have started out rough, but it's matured nicely But like I said, without the tight IDE integration it can feel awkward to work with MonoDevelop is pretty close to VS but still lacks a bit of that integration that makes C# so popular in the Windows world Comment from : Eidetic Ex |
Scrooge McDuck is the mean uncle in my family Comment from : Evan Kocka |

as a computer scientist i love this channel Comment from : torosyan |
Oh man I can't stand C# though might be because I'm a linux coder ;)
I know 16 (not an expert in all though), but I've been doing this for over 10 years so that helps! If you ever want to try something new which isn't your standard sequential language (C, C#, Java, etc) take a gander at Prolog if you haven't already It's quite a fascinating language :) Comment from : psychovez |
Imho I don't think so Being an experience programmer myself, I have preferences to certain languages, but a favorite? The languages are but tools and you need to pick the right tool to suit the job Having a favorite is biasing yourself towards using that one all the time and I've seen many Dev's fall in that trap "I'LL SOLVE EVERYTHING WITH JAVA!!" I personally have a preference for python, C and ASM, since I know them very well But lets say I want to do complex math, well haskell it is Comment from : psychovez |
That's like asking a mechanic which screwdriver is his favorite Comment from : psychovez |
I ignore instructions :P
Also every shampoo bottle I've seen says repeat as desired or something like that :p Comment from : Zukaro Travon |
I'm expecting this to go deeper as they cover the subjects Got to start somewhere Comment from : Lan Sandwich |
That is who runs this channel And if you are being sarcastic, don't hang around these channels, they are meant for education, not your sarcasm practice Comment from : Jared Bennett |
The guy that runs Numberphile should take over this channel He's do it better Comment from : BON3S McCOY |
This is like having computers explained by Scrooge McDuck Comment from : arleas |
Can you do an episode about P vs NP? Comment from : Caffeinated Code Monkey |
The title to this video isn't very informative - I would suggest "Just what is an algorithm?" Great video! Comment from : Sylvielmna Zjsch |
How about doing some short video's on specific algorithms and design patterns? Comment from : noxure |
It's "Repeat as needed" Comment from : immasmashyourface |
This an introduction, they still might go into the specifics in a future video Comment from : Martin Zhang |
so? Comment from : FappyGnome |
well clearly you do understand his accent Comment from : TheJaredtheJaredlong |
"while alive breathe" describes the dependency between living and breathing backwards Comment from : TazG2000 |

Multithreading! Yay, there's the solution ^^ Comment from : Levi G |
Lather Rinse Repeat As a Computer Engineer, I actually used to wonder, why should we repeat it and till when is it supposed to be repeated Stupid instructions :| Comment from : Copper |
Just throw in a simple control variable below the function, and remove the recursive command (as well, so your hair doesn't stay wet forever) Comment from : Stained Shuriken |
I was actually kind of bummed I was hoping to see some info on actual algorithms for physics based hair materials in regards to computer graphics :( Comment from : name |
Fully agree Baby steps Back when I started college for my Computer Science degree, this was the first this they told us when we started programming Comment from : name |
This is good But I like Hal Abelson's (MIT) what is computer science lecture Its available in youtube Its also designed for non-technical audience It contrasts declarative vs imperative knowledge to make people understand what is an algorithm Comment from : zenerd |
For anyone interested in more in depth algorithms I suggest you check out Week 4 of CS50, some minor C experience is pretty much mandatory though Comment from : KreatorRage |
"Okay" Comment from : Hughs Django Vlog |
