I have always loved ABBA! My brother and sister used to make fun of me because I loved Abba so much and they thought it wasn’t cool but I did not care! I still do not care, I’m 60 years old and I still love Abba! I just wish so badly that I could see them or meet them !! To meet them and see them sing , would be a dream come true!!But I am in Massachusetts USA so I couldn’t even see them in concert in London in there special concert in 2020 or 22❤❤❤

Hi There are just a few brief points I’d like to makebrbr1) In the 1970s, the rock critics described ABBA’s music, as if the band’s music and somewhat wholesome image made the Swedes interlopers, as “catchy” or “bubblegum pop”, which was rather snooty of them to say so The rock critics would have been rather vain in their assessments that rock and pop music had to be serious, thumping, radical Abba discombobulated thembrYet! Yes, yet! As the music producer and songwriter near the end of your video sharply observed, Abba has now become Mamma Mia! (the musical film and stage franchise) Just when ABBA’s legacy had been somewhat restored by the sensitive and appealing use of its music in the 1994 film Muriel’s Wedding, that legacy began to be spoiled by … Mamma Mia! The 2008 movie was a showcase in the butchering of ABBA’s songs I regret having to be this blunt, but that is what it is Did not ABBA’s music deserve a better vehicle than the twee, self-satisfied story that had to carry the music (such as it was)? brI was a very young lad in the 1970s I can recall my grandmother, in her little kitchen in a bungalow with no central heating, turning up the wireless to hear Chiquitita being played She who had lived through the War, and lit her own coal fire! Working class, she and my grandfather were I was slightly amused, perhaps glad, that a nice song, a nice modern song, could be appreciated by my grandmother How come Abba sold so many records in the UK in the 70s? Their bittersweet music was much enjoyed by those with little money, who were older, worked with their hands and could only afford to take a holiday in Skegness (never mind Brighton!) This demographic was a chunk of that record-buying public But only a very small chunk brTo put it bluntly in 2023, hundreds of thousands of people who turned up the radio in 1978 to better hear an Abba song, in Britain, are now … dead A lot of these people perhaps had caught a glimpse of Abba on one of their rare TV appearances (in the three-channel UK of the 70s) My own grandparents persisted with a black-and-white television until 1984 (when it gave up the ghost) But a simple fact is that most working-class households could barely afford a record player, especially in the 70s To better-off, better-educated relatives or friends visiting them, the absence of a record player in the visitors’ eyes would have suggested no real appreciation of music generally But that was just not the case, of course All working-class households had a radio When the less well-off visited the cafeteria in town, on a shop counter there was a radio To this day, I find myself transported back in time should an Abba song break out on a tiny transistor-like radio I have brFast-forward to beyond the millennium Actually, just before you do, take stock A lot of ABBA’s songs, along with the fare from other famous singers and pop groups of their 70s heyday, provided CONSOLATION Not just joy, or excitement, or groovy or cool sensations, but consolation was , and had always been, going back to the early days of the popular song, a huge aspect of the song (This forgotten aspect is one reason why pop music is so awful today and has lost its way)brBut let’s fast forward, please brAnd we arrive at the frankly minced and chopped-up fare of the … sensational, glamorous, electric Manma Mia! brIt’s a purloining of ABBA’s one-time open and democratic appeal by smug upper-middle-class characters prancing about on a Greek island, jumping into … each other’s arms Have they no shame? brAnd here we are With Mamma Mia! for Abba So probably the rock critics of yesteryear, several of whom are still alive and kicking, will have the last laugh ABBA’s legacy has been tainted by their unwise diving into the bubblegum stage musical route Their music, thanks to Mamma Mia!, has become, yes, catchy, and bubblegum pop brAbba! Why oh why oh why? Could you imagine The Carpenters sullying their legacy likewise? I think not I think not

What I find amazing in them, apart from their music, is their capacity to bear all this success and all these praises without losing their head !!! They remain so quiet and cool, no arrogance, no becoming scandalous !!! THAT is most amazing !!!
