What can i do to get my money out of mutual funds tied up in the bank? The market is down right now, and i’m planning on switching over to wealthsimple and investing into etfs It doesn’t look like transferring mutual funds is an option, although i’m able to transfer the funds directly on the app Should i take the $300 loss or wait until the market is back up? I didn’t realize there were so many fees banks charge when dealing with mutual funds and i want to get my money out as soon as possible! Comment from : Jocelyn |
If some my current investments at a big bank are not accessible/available assets through Questrade (ex bank specific mutual fund), can I still go through the process of requesting an "in kind transfer" with some modifications or is this whole "in kind" process blocked? Will I need to go through the partial transfer route and specify everything? I'm trying to figure out the most efficient way to get out of my current banking situation where I'm definitely being charged more in fees Is there some sort of way to confirm/cross reference whether the assets I currently hold in my current investment accounts are accessible/available through Questrade? I hope these questions makes sense Comment from : Kyle Daniell |

Hi Adrian! Just wanted to add something that some people might not be aware of So I transferred all of my assets from RBC to Questrade During the 2-3 weeks that it took to transfer, I was due for a dividend payment It didn't get transferred I had to call questrade to have them transfer the missing dividends from RBC The dividends were sitting in an empty account I only noticed because it was a big one, over $70 Just an FYI, check to make sure your dividends transfer over too!! :) Comment from : Christina Mallet |

Everything sounds good on here but when you read some of the reviews about Questtrade online I’m not so sure I was thinking of leaving my bank trading service for QT but some of the comments I’ve read have me hesitant Terrible customer service and apparently fees and costs that aren’t divulged People who have transferred accounts and aren’t being reimbursed the transfer fee as promised Not sure what to think now Not crazy about my bank now but not looking for a worse situation either Comment from : Sam Spade |

Question: I have $3K in a RSP account with investors group I would like to transfer to Questrade If I do a “in cash” transfer will I get hit with taxes? My goal is to use this money and buy dividends ETFs in a RSP Questrade account Comment from : Lokest Loco |
Adrian, I am new to all this and doing as much research as possible before switching to Questrade from a Primerica Mutual Fund Most of my shares in my mutual fund are DSC shares but some have already matured where there are no more charges tied to those shares As time goes one, more shares will mature past the DSC timeframe so they won't have fees associated with selling My question is, do you know if I can do say 1 or 2 transfers per year out of the same mutual fund over to Questrade and get the transfer fees reimbursed or is it only one time transfer fee that Questrade will reimburse from the same account? I am trying to avoid as many fees as possible when removing my holdings with Primerica Comment from : Warren Weaver |

Thanks a ton, Adrian! Been watching your videos like a Netflix series You've mastered the art of simplifying convoluted subjects For your situation with TFSA Tangerine mutual funds, did you liquidate the funds and keep it a TFSA savings account with Tangerine before transferring to Questrade? As in, was it TFSA Investment account -> TFSA Savings account -> Questrade TFSA account transfer? Does this have to be done over December-January or can you do it at anytime of the year since it is still under TFSA? Would this work the same way for RRSP as well? Thanks again! Comment from : soham thorat |
Great video! I didn't realize it was so simple to transfer from TD to Questrade Ive been putting it off and will try it now Thanks Adrian (your video on RESP explained was awesome too) Comment from : Candy Newman |
Found your vid by accident Very useful Thank you Comment from : Just See Cat |
I have investments in my CIBC TFSA, (Global Monthly Income Balanced) I do not see where Questrade shows these as an option to invest in Does this mean I have to cash out these mutual funds and move the cash over to start re investing Was hoping to not have to cash out Based on your video sounds like some investments are not transferrable Just thought that a big banks mutual fund should likely be listed on Questrade?? Comment from : Sam Roy |
Very informative video, thanks! Quick question: though I am not super happy with the performance of one particular RRSP, I am hesitant about transferring it over to my new Questrade account Yes, I am saving almost 2 in annual mngmt fees, but I am wondering about the ramifications of having Questrade cash out funds that are not matched in kind Am I overthinking the fact that I'll never benefit again from having bought those funds at cheaper prices after years of DCAing? Does this make sense or should I just be happy with the lower fees? Comment from : Sean McCarron |
it would be greatif you can post a video on margin account, i want to invest in some risky stocks but do not want to do it in the tfsa or rrsp I wonder if i can do it in a margin account, but what is it and how does it work, taxes and all that stuff Comment from : souhila anki |
When buying US stocks how do you avoid the withholding tax if you are over 69 I don’t believe you can put the in an RRSP, Comment from : Patricia Weller |
Hi :) glad that I found you! Now I’m watching your videos like Netflix & chill 😂brbrI have a question though, when registering for the first time (oh yess I’ll use your reference) and want to transfer in-kind stocks from another institution, does the minimum amount of a $1,000 is still a requirement when opening or if my transfer request will be sufficient? Of course it will be more than $1,000 Hope my question makes sensebrbrThanks Comment from : Ms Val |
I want to get start investing and I want to transfer my tfsa over to questrade and actually use that account to invest For the longest time I've done the classic move and basically just used my tfsa as a savings account So if I want to transfer that from my bank to questrade how do I go about doing that? There's no stocks in it so do I have to do it as a cash transfer where it will remove it from the tfsa and re-contribute it into the questrade tfsa , causing me to lose the contribution room for rest of the year? Or how do I do that Same deal with my rrsp, I don't want to lose that room forever Neither have stocks within them so what do I do? Comment from : Shevin Sacrey |
this video really helped thanks man !bri'll be using your referral Comment from : tarun |
Hi Adrian! I am just starting to learn all about questrade and am looking to move my TFSA from TD into questrade When I request this transfer, will that mean that the TD TFSA will automatically be closed, and I will only have the questrade account? Or will I essentially have 2 different TFSAs after the transfer? Comment from : Emily Coxworth |
Thank you very much Everything i was ever told about stocks and trading was wrong I can't even imagine over that last 20yrs how much my bank has charged me for my investments i feel used Comment from : albertabigbuckhunter |
I was just gonna ask if it was possible to move some stocks from a TFSA to a RRSP but I see you mentioned its not possible :/ there is absolutely no way to do this? Comment from : sgadsden |
Would there be any disadvantage for transferring my RRSP and TFSA holdings in their entirety to Questrade? Or would it be better in some form to maintain a portion still in my major bank? Cause I don't think that's the same as diversifying a portfolio right? Do people diversify their brokers? I should be fine just requesting the whole account to Questrade I'm assuming Comment from : redKheld |
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Comment from : Dolly |
Great video! brTwo questionsbr1 Even if you choose cash transfer, this is still all within TFSA, and no tax implication/ does not count as contribution, correct?br2 What happens if you choose in-kind and the product does not exist on questrade? Will questrade still move it as cash?brThanks Comment from : Melangex |
Hi, I was wondering if you could explain locked-in self direct RSP pension funds Can we move them over to Questrade and use them to buy stock?brI’m getting conflicting stories from different individuals at the bank and I just want to make an informed decisionbrGreatly appreciated brJohn Comment from : John Archakis |
