Man, please research modern monetary theory (MMT) It’s how all large countries that issue their own fiat currency operate, though they will never admit it You will be a lot less scared when you understand that the money is not inherently valuable due to the material, but due to the trust we put in it - also it’s not “the peoples money”, taxes don’t actually pay for government spending This is all part of MMT Also, the debt ceiling is a stupid and arcane procedure that only the US has The debt ceiling says that we will pay the money that we’ve ALREADY spent It’s money that congress has already allocated, and if we did not raise it and instead go over it, the US would default on its debt which would cause global recession and destroy the global economy It seems your main issue is government spending, and I can agree with you partially there There’s lots of limitless spending whenever the defense budget is made The pentagon just failed its 5th audit in a row and yet we just keep raising their black hole budget to keep paying the military industrial complex However, some of this is mandatory spending like social security and Medicare because the insanely huge boomer generation aged and didn’t have enough children to pay for continuing these programs, so they are sucking up so much money now that they’ve aged and there’s less citizens to pay into Medicare and SS But just attacked “government spending” or the idea that the government can issue whatever currency they want is ignorant
