I think something thats important but always goes unsaid is, to slowly begin relating your courses to one another At least for me, in Stochastic Process's, I have now (a little late into the semester lol) begun reminding myself, of topics from Real Analysis, Set Theory, or Linear Algebra to make sense of whats going on

Would you say the learning curve for grad school math from undergrad is similar to undergrad math from precollege math?
Comment from : Wayne Lau

Declan Farber
Mathematical research is so specialized these days It helps to get deeply involved in a research topic at the level of your senior thesis as an undergraduate, and use that as your “road map” for continuing on at the graduate level A good thesis adviser really helps, and can steer you towards what to expect, beyond the usual topics as described

I am considering to start in 1 or 2 years the grad school in mathematics But the problem is: brbr1 - I graduated in Computer science (Bsc) 10 YEARS AGO;br2 - I work as software engineer, but don’t use mathematics very oftenbrbrDo you think if I study everyday, revisiting calculus, linear algebra, etc, would I be able to at least try, or am I “too old”… let me rephrase: am I too late to try?brbrBecause usually people who starts graduate studies go fresh from university, and as I said, I’ve finished my Bsc 10 years ago…

Is it also good to prepare for Computer Science PHD?

true story: brsome buddies of my brother-in-law asked him to grab a beer out of the cooler brHe reached over in the trusty old igloo to do just that when a rattle-snake bit himbrthey'd put the snake in there to scare him, but actually ended up sending him to the ERbrno way to have appreciated that pain and surprise without experiencing it first-hand brIs that a close comparison?

Andreas Sap
I remember the clarity i had when studying maths in Uni i definiatly felt better,i was thinking more to the point and was able to tackle my problems more effectively

Matthias Andersen
Wow Do you have measure theory and introductory topology as graduate classes in the US? We have it as undergraduate classes although courses like algebraic topology is graduate class where I come from Nice channel

Hi do is it necessary to have a bachelor in maths to apply for a masters in maths or there are other options too?

I love you man! Know why? Because you are making me so excited to engage in mathematics which I was always afraid of

in my country a undergraduate degree is 3 years, so when you say grad school is that 4th year or 5th year+?

Every time I get a math/physics book with crazy stuff that I just don't know about (like what you mentioned in the video), I'm always like "I need to learn this $h!t"

David Soto
What areas of mathematics should I study if I want to get to a level equivalent to an undergraduate student in applied mathematics or engineering What branches of math do I need in order to solve engineering physics problems? Did you do a review on the book you showed in the video?
Comment from : David Soto

David Soto
Is it possible to teach yourself basic mathematics like algebra, trigonometry, geometry, calculus, differential equations, physics, probability, and engineering mathematics?

Please, can you recommend some books on differential equations and linear algebra for self - study?? I am in the situation you speak that

This is a good question, and one I get from students and have a hard time answering sometimes Take as much of the following as possible, and, ideally all of it (I took all but one, but took things not on this list as well): beyond the basic Calculus sequence, I'd say a semester of abstract Linear Algebra (meaning conceptual and not calculative), a semester of point-set Topology, 2 semesters of Algebra that cover through very basic Galois Theory, 1 or 2 semesters of Real Analysis, a semester of Calculus on real manifolds including the Inverse Function Theorem, Implicit Function Theorem, Stokes' Theorem, etc), and basic Complex Variables Also, for the love of all that is good, take a class in basic classical Number Theory

Hello Mr Sorcerer,! brbrI am about to finish my undergraduate degrees in Mechanical E and Math My Uni does not offer topology or complex vars Instead they are offering Number theory and Combinatorics which i do plan on taking with abstract algebra and advanced calculus 2 I was wondering if this would be a problem for graduate schools do you think they would care? any help is appreciated!

Strange Symbols
Hey man, brbrThank you for replying to an earlier comment of mine on another video - however, this video poses another concern I've had considering grad school in math Since I am an Aero + Math major, will the following courses in math "prepare" me enough for the skills and knowledge I need in grad school? Courses: Linear Algebra I, Abstract Algebra I, Advanced Calculus I, Introduction to Partial Differential Equations, Mathematical Probability and Statistics, and General Relativity and Tensor Calculus brbrI ask because most math majors I know entering grad school take the second level (II) courses of Advanced Calculus and Abstract Algebra followed by a 2 semester sequence of Real Analysis (I & II) However, I am a BA in Math (not a BS) so I don't take those higher level courses Will not having any exposure to those higher levels and real analysis really hinder my chances of success in grad school? How about admissions? I would love to pursue grad school in math if the choice came down to it (instead of engineering), but I feel like my education is slightly short of being remotely prepared Thanks again

Hello, so I am about to finish my bachelors degree in physics I have noticed and was surprised that mathematics major classes are not that much different from physics majors I am about to start graduate school in mathematics very soon and was wondering if anybody had any advice before I do this coming from a physics major The reason I chose mathematics is because I am the best at it I am good at physics but very good at mathematics I am taking applied analysis which is basically calculus 4 and the hardest math I can possibly take and I am enjoying it very much My physics courses, on the other hand, I am devoting a lot of time and energy into them It doesn’t come to me naturally Some physics concepts are much more difficult than math to grasp For example, maxwells equations, I have been practicing for almost a year and I wouldn’t be able to teach them to anybody lol The hardest math concepts I’ve learned so far, on the other hand, I can fully explain to anybody with joy I am not saying I didn’t enjoy learning physics but I just enjoyed my mathematics courses a lot more as an undergrad

Thoughts on taking grad classes while still in undergrad? I was hoping to take analysis 1 and 2 next fall and spring after finishing advanced calc 2 this coming spring, but in your opinion, is it really worth it to do it? Or should I just wait to take them until (hopefully) I get in to grad school?

Hi, good advice Do you have any videos suggesting on how to read graduate level text math books Or can you make one ? My background is pretty much EE, and I really became very interested in the beauty of math during my graduate school (EE) I did some research on using convex optimization applied to signal and image processing Coming from an EE background, it was very tough for me to read papers and books related to convex analysis and optimization, especially proving the theorems However, I pretty much learned what I needed for my research purpose and survived the graduate programbrbrbrBut I'm curios to know how do mathematicians read a graduate level text/paper For example, do you read the whole book ? complete all the exercises ? or you use the book just for reference and look it up only when you need to understand certain topics ? Is ti always with pencil and paper when reading ? these are the sort of things I would really like to know
