Hatteberg was originally a Catcher until he had an elbow injury that hurt his throwing ability (which is important as a Catcher but not as much at 1B) Also he signed a free agent deal with the Reds after Oakland and was eventually replaced as the Reds starter by Joey Votto in 2008

They didn't portray Hetteberg as a klutz They potrayed that in spring training when he was first learning, not in regular season games However, he was a pro player and certainly knew how to catch a ball But they needed to show that, as Wash said, "it's incredibly hard"

I'm not really sure why this movie was made The very team that allegedly used different metrics to build their team has not done any truly spectacular except win 21 games in a row The Boston Red Sox use the same process and won the World Series Why didn't they spotlight the Red Sox? That would have made a more interesting movie
