Excellent video, thanks! I'm fairly new to coin collecting, and I've been fooled several times The only time I got the last laugh was when I put a ridiculously low bid on a set of Chinese gold coins, just to see what they ended up selling for To my great surprise, I won the auction! brbrWhen I got the set, the coins looked perfect, each in its own capsule nested in a velvet-lined, intricately inlaid wooden case, with lots of signed & sealed documents attesting that they're genuine They weren't of course, no one would sell some $2000 worth of gold for $35, so I knew they were fake They did look perfect, but the weights were off & so were the dimensions of the coins I notified eBay about this fraud, and got my money refunded & also got to keep the fake coins, so that made me happy- and I've used that set many times to demonstrate to others how clever the fakes can bebrbrMostly I collect Australian pre-decimal coins, and there I've only been fooled once (that I know of,) when I got a 1937 Crown that was actually steel with a silver layer It looked magnificent, and I'm really glad I only paid $25 for it, but we've all got to be very very careful when buying coins Recently I saw another video showing a handful of Mercury dimes, all were fake, so it's not only the high-priced coins that are phony, it could be any of them Thanks again, that was most informative! Makes no sense whatsoever And I’m referring to the appraisers, not Daniel Example, a 1970 Plymouth Barracuda with codes identifying it as a Hemi Cuda is worth just as much as just a frame and title as a compete car Nobody cares about paint, it’s a matching numbers game Also, if a coin is “cleaned” there is no reason to write the word “cleaned” on the tag lmao, just reduce the overall score People pay good money to get their coins graded, there is NO reason to make it harder for them to sell by writing that If the coin was cleaned, reduce it by a few points, and let the buyer and seller argue as to why Their job is to just grade the condition of it, I mean a non worn 1909 S VSB Penny is worth the same cleaned as an uncleaned in the same condition The more you wrote the word “cleaned” the more the hobby is going to go bye bye, and your writing yourselves out of a job Maybe a new coin grader needs to come onto the scene who understands this Comment from : Street Lethal

Man, if PCGS can put AU-58 on that 1902-S, how much confidence can we place in the grading services? Daniel here has shown coins previously, graded by the major services, in which the opposite problem seemed to exist: coins in "Unc Details" holders (due to cleaning) with no apparent cleaning That bothers me more and shakes my confidence It leaves one asking, "Did they goof, or do I have some blind-spot when it comes to identifying cleaned coins?" Too bad the grading services don't give the customer a verbal blurb in MP3 or WAV as to what the grader has noticed as he grades the coin Currently the customer gets back a coin in a holder with a grade that sometimes seems to lack all understanding, and there is no explanation Comment from : Joseph Campagnolo

I was going through some pennies and found quite a few that had different colors of paint, and colors of grit along with shiny ,like nickel cobwebs all over them Well the grit tastes salty, and they are stamp marks on the substance, along with letters etc etc !!! trust your well Thanks for the info presented however I don't think I understand or agree with the perspective on restoration not being considered cleaning when in fact it is The coin must undergo cleaning to be restored it would appear to be a double standard used purely to generate more services or for a coin dealer sales i say this based on a video I saw in which a coin dealer admitted to cleaning coins in order to do just that He went on to say that the dipping process he uses is the same that grading companies use and he was practicing this long before grading services were available albeit with different chemicals and processes He went on to explain that once coins reflect light better than before is the desired effect, the more luster the better Lets apply common sense a circulated coin which I believe in general is usually more sort after, is passing from hand to hand, different fabric pockets, different types of leather/ and other types of wallets/hand bags paper rolls and so in contact with natural/unnatural residues of salt from perspiration, acids both natural and unnatural as well as a cocktail of many other chemical residues not to mention other coin metals and surfaces Over time coins wear affecting the original stamped surface and also develop patinas which again is either as a result of chemical reactions or built up residues or both and coin storage/exposure to air and moisture The variables involved are actually immeasurable which is why there is in fact so much variations in finish So in my humble view just because over time there has been an acceptance of what is usual from what is known I humbly submit that there are in fact instances which don't fall into the norm but are genuinely uncleaned coins I've been collecting now for 42 years and lost coins to natural deterioration from chemical reactions even though sealed in plastic from the very first day acquired and others which are the complete opposite having gotten more beautiful over time with amazing and unique toning & patinas I have never graded a coin and after researching it, now very hesitant to do same as it would appear to be a double edged sword with a dice roll I am at the point in my life where I'm finally ready to liquidate my collection but finding it hard to even consider paying for grading to be rejected on a perceived anomaly because the person or persons haven't seen one like it before or such is unrecorded in the fraternity what are your thoughts? humbly and respectfully Comment from : azad ali
