as someone who had a handful of the v basic toy vtech computers in the early 00s, the pc endeavour one wouldve been a blast to fiddle around with at least for the word processor so i wouldnt have to keep begging for time on the family computer to write my little first grade stories lmaooo
Comment from : Fortuna Major

Charleigh Copley
For years I wondered about this one computer look-alike that I had as a kid Just by watching this and seeing some of how these toys were styled, I remember having one of these from the late 80s In just a few minutes I finally figured out what I had It was the Vtech Smart Start Speller Thank you, @NostalgiaNerd!!
Comment from : Charleigh Copley

OctoCraft
i currently have a PreComputer1000 Junior (or OrdiYeno from it's distribution name) that i paid 10€ at emmaus recently and it was complete with all of the 9 carts and the manuals, and i use this as a decoration because i'm cool
Comment from : OctoCraft

Comment from : F r a n k i e

Majextic
Had the talking whiz kid from vtech (i guess it was another name for the precomputer notebook) briefly as a kid loved that thing but my parents gave it away
Comment from : Majextic

Alain Pfaeffli
My mom said that every electronic toy i got, i immediately took apart without even playing with it Later i became an electronics engineer Guess it helped my career to be the kid in the neighborhood that can fix radios 😂
Comment from : Alain Pfaeffli

Paranoid Genius
I have a vtech precomputer 1000 & it came out in 1988, not 1989 Sorry for nitpicking!😂
Comment from : Paranoid Genius

Krushak
I had a talking whiz kid as a four year old in the nineties the only thing it was terrible is it had cards So if you lost them or bent them it wouldn't work

maximumrisk2004
I am so lucky that I got hand-me-down computers early on I had my Amiga around 5 and I guees my first Windows machine around 8 It was fun being able to do everything with Computers, while the older generation struggled at opening Word or Solitair XD
Comment from : maximumrisk2004

Will Man
I used to have the PreComputer 1000 but didn't have the manual, so not knowing any of the commands, the programming mode was absolutely useless to me I think the only good thing about the toy to me was my first time with a full-size keyboard
Comment from : Will Man

Azisk Garion
I'd rather have the "laptop" design over the tablet, which damages the kids vision and neck due to bad posturing
Comment from : Azisk Garion

The Mad Moderator
my two kids have had loads v tech gadgets growing up and everyone they have loved me i think they are rubbish kids love them i thin they are awsome Simple fact like the minority gamers saying switch is rubbish my kids will play that every day over my ps5 or series x
Comment from : The Mad Moderator

Jordan Howell
I feel like so many of these things are basically demeaning to kids I mean when I was like 6 or 7 my dad got the first iMac when it came out , and I was already teaching myself a lot on there, we had a family friend who was into hacking and pirating and stuff … thank goodness my parents were cool enoughor inattentive enough sometimes, to let me just zone into that early computer learning and exploring the software, and eventually hardware taking them apart and putting back together!brI feel like it’d be a disservice to a kid to give them something like this I mean now it’s a whole different story though because your other option is giving them access to an always-on, always listening and watching and social media creepiness and…ugh Man I grew up at just the right time for what I experienced! Lol
Comment from : Jordan Howell

Christopher Thompson
Fun to think that when our kids reach out age, they're going to be nostalgic about the "simple" tech we have now and wonder if their kids will appreciate just how much has changed in 30 years Hell we as 90s kids don't really appreciate the tech before us Imagine a time before we went to the moon or even a transistor I'm 34, my parents were born in '56 They were just little when the transistor was invented Go back to our grandparents and they couldn't imagine a world without heavier than air travel and wouldn't grasp the technological breakthroughs to make that happenbrbrI had a vtech precomputer prestige and that's where I learnt BASIC I remember being in a doctor waiting room and pulling it out All the adults looked at my mom like she was crazy because they thought it was an actual factual multi-thousand dollar laptop Lol nope, I'm secretly typing swear words and giggling about it on my 2" screen
Comment from : Christopher Thompson

ngantnier
I have fond memories of my vetch laptop When I was a young kid it was that and my OG gameboy I played with the most

When I was around 10 or 12, I had a Laser 128, an Apple IIe compatible computer by VTech (it was sold at Sears) It was my first computer Many years later, I got my young daughter one of those little toy computers with different programs on it
Comment from : Merc Fredis

Ron Smith
Many fond memories of writing basic code on my old Precomputer1000 it was horribly brutal with that display, but still worked well for simple programsbrI would typically write out a whole program on paper before keying it in
Comment from : Ron Smith

AetheralMeowstic
As a musician, I can gladly report that the Style Pad's music iis/i out of tune
Comment from : AetheralMeowstic

Arturiens
it would be fun to find a busted one of those and rebuild it with raspberry pi
Comment from : Arturiens

Rob Cohen
I remember seeing stuff like this in Toys R Us as a young teen in the 90s and feeling sorry for kids who had to deal with them instead of having access to a real computer It is cool that you can do BASIC stuff in some of these though
Comment from : Rob Cohen

These things bring back bad memories 20 + years ago My grandma favored and spoiled my cousin with a real laptop She bought me one of these VTech computers when I asked for one
Comment from : 801_ Adventure_Trek

I'm honestly surprised V-Tech was still a thing in the 2010s I remember seeing them as a kid in the 90s My dad was an IT Admin though so i just thrown straight into the deep with MS-DOS, than go through one of these

Comment from : Sonic_1000

Basic Bites
Good grief, these are hilarious! I vaguely remember them as the toy laptops that nobody took seriously In contrast, by the mid-90s, people were using Commodore 64s for doorstops For a few dollars you could give your kid a more fulfilling computer experience playing with BASIC and LOGO -- with much better sound and graphics -- if he was actually interested in computers and didn't just want "his own laptop" -- JC
Comment from : Basic Bites

Matt Carter
I had a pre-computer Notebook I used that thing a lot lol
Comment from : Matt Carter

I had plenty of Vtech computers and laptops back in the day (although none were any of these shown), but man, out of all your videos, this one hits the hardest far as nostalgia If only I can turn back time and relive these memories again! Thanks for the great content!

Albert Cornstarch
I had a silver VTECH laptop with a blue stripe down the bottom of the lid, and it had the coolest music!!! Nothing copyrighted, but still fun!!! I don’t have it anymore but it was the best thing to do when I was bored brbrI do remember it had a silver V on the front as well Looked like a MacBook with a small green display…what a waste of all that space
Comment from : Albert Cornstarch

Andrew Singleton
Am I the only one that wants someone to gut one of these and do something? Because the shells look neat
Comment from : Andrew Singleton

CHRISMENENDEZ
These look interesting, but I was an older kid during the 90's and I used the real thing at school, so when I was 12 or 13 I got my first real PC at home It ended up being a victim of my constant trial and error experimenting, but at least it recovered fast and I became good at fixing Windows problems because of it Computers rarely misbehave when I'm around 😅
Comment from : CHRISMENENDEZ

APalladium
Viewer Interaction!
Comment from : APalladium

Louis Lipp
I always hoped in some misguided and truly Well, misguided way that perhaps I could use one of those as a word processor Where the kid could save a homework essay that they worked on all week and print it They would appreciate the "keyboarding"it would print and look just fine with wild mwrgingmsv as the first truly computerized homework!
Comment from : Louis Lipp

Khorne_of_the_Hill
