I almost entirely agree with your list My one disagreement, as an American yet someone who loves and works with trains, is that I'd recommend splurging for a cab or Uber at least once, if not a few times for your longer commutes I love the Paris Metro and you should definitely take it - but there's something about being able to look out your window and see the liveliness of the streets, the shops, restaurants and unique buildings you might not see again, and peeks down random streets that simply appear spectacular Line 6 of the Metro does have some pretty fantastic views of it's own, though! Enjoyed the video overall Comment from : CHP |

We are doing our research for our visit at the end of october, so thanks a lot for your quality tips! Comment from : Elisabeth |

I avoided all mistakes pointed out in this videoexcept for one! I tried to see everything in just a week! I estimate that I was walking about 12 klm per day (every day) for a full week just to have the chance to see "everything"and still I didn't even scratch the surface of the city!brNext year I will be visiting Paris again for the second timebut now I intend to be much more relaxed and just enjoy this glorious city without specific plans Comment from : Tjololo t |

First mistake is thinking paris is clean😂 Comment from : Samy Sevraj |

I just got back from trip to Paris yesterday and you are absolutely right about these tips As far as public transportation and getting around it is VERY easy to use there are maps all over the place and the ticket machines are in english also not to mention that Paris is very walkable also When I got to Paris I didn't really have anything planned out I kind of just figured it out as time went on and like he said the best thing to do is just take your time and enjoy the city Its amazing! I have to say breakfasts at the hotels are great if you are lazy I won't have to hunt for food first thing in the morning and often it's all you can eat, making the new to pay for a substantial lunch less later Comment from : PinkPotatoes |

And try the French cuisine I live in France now and every summer we get American tourists who stick to eating burgers, pizzas, steakbrWhat a loss Jump in, try something unusual, go to a small restaurant with no, or a limited, lunchtime choicepot luck You may be surprised Comment from : Eleven : Eleven |

In France generally have the plat du jour for lunch Use the RoutiersbrYou can have a 4 course meal with wine and coffee for €15 You'd struggle to shop and cook that for yourself Comment from : Eleven : Eleven |

I disagree about hotel breakfastif the room is priced competitively and breakfast buffet is included I always take it Especially because foreign hotel breakfast buffets are healthy eating, unlike the garbage served in American hotels Comment from : Joseph Papsidero |

Although it is easy to move around via metro I'd still recommend on finding a Hotel in a decent place After all Paris is the most dangerous of the major touristic cities in Europe Comment from : Guilherme Ribeiro Michelino |
I agree - take the Metro, folks! If you want to experience the real Paris, this is the way to do it It is fast, efficient, economical, and super easy to use (well okay, some stations are easier to navigate than others, but the system itself is very user friendly) The only issue I have with the Metro for first time visitors is that you miss a lot of the city while you're underground so sometimes, depending on the route, the bus might be a better choice just because you can see some sights while you're riding But Ubers and taxis are not necessary in Paris for the most part Comment from : lisalu910 |
Seems with so many comments of robberies, pick pockets Paris aint safe ? Is this true now Comment from : Varun Seth |

Metro is not easy to use The bigger hubs like Gare du Nord are complete endless clusterfucks Nearly got my phone stolen in the subway (the one time I did not use Uber) Honestly the best thing to do is to skip this grossly overrated city entirely and enjoy the beautiful French countryside Comment from : Tally-Ho Media |
I see something called a Paris city card Is it recommended as a good deal or a purchase mistake? Comment from : Mike Filimon |
My wife was pickpocketed by a group of teenagers age between 10-13 yrs old They came in as a group and pushed everybody in while 2 of them went around to stop us from moving in They left after 1 stop and even showed me where's they threw her wallet after the door closed They got away with €700 A lesson learned, be careful of these teenagers and also do not stand near the door They only go for tourist The worst part was, the other people in the train saw it but just ignored as if they were part of it Comment from : faizal ibrahim |
Thank you so much! Great points! We're going there in August Any other suggestions? Comment from : The Troublemakerz Band |

I loved the bus in Paris In London the bus is useless, so you HAVE to take the underground But in Paris, when we visited, we hated the metro and tried the bus Fantastic It was on time, it took us where we wanted and we could see the sights going there Comment from : mffmoniz |
Mistake number one : thinking about finding an affordable hotel ! Comment from : davide piva |
Big mistake - not speaking, or, at least, not battempting/b to speak French The French get very sniffy about foreigners who won't even try Even if it's just perfunctory greetings or basic ordering, 's'il vous plait', 'merci', etc Make the effort - goes a long way Comment from : ytnsanw |
I spent an hour on YouTube learning how to use the Metro and it was a great decision Took it everywhere, stayed in a cheaper area Even rode the RER to Disneyland Paris for $7 Comment from : Satan |

Any advice as to what private stay website is best for Paris - VRBO, Air BNB, or is there a specifically French one that is better? Looking for a 3-day stay in September 2023 brbrAlso - any advice on a place one might store luggage for 2 days while we travel to Normandy from Paris? We will be traveling with a roller carry-on and under-the-seat backpacks We would love to store the rollers in Paris and only take the backpack instead of lugging it all on the train to Normandy We would ask the hotel we are staying in, but we are going from one hotel when we arrive to a different hotel (or VRBO)after we return from Normandy Thoughts? Just take it all to Normandy and deal with it? We will be renting a car in Normandy so it won't be too bad, but thought it might be good to ask Comment from : Nino Knows |

My favorite experience was staying in one of the older apartments with exposed beam ceilings and original wood floors It was a 4th floor walkup with a tremendous view One mistake I did make was taking the metro to watch the fireworks on the 14th and dealing with huge crowds and poor views Comment from : carabela125 |

Take the Metro or book a car from CDG airport My fluent French speaking world traveling niece got in a cab & at a traffic light, they were in a Smash and grab Lost her passports, etc she did fight them off for her purse so they had ID left But she & her friend were quite shaken, disappointed that Paris has become more like Latin America Comment from : Cat GratefulGirl |

Been to Paris 6 times, I am a believer in outside tourism Saw the Eiffel tower, I always go see the Arc De Triumph, but never go up either Saw the Louvre , never inside I can understand people that want to go inside, but you save so much time not doing so Standing at the base of the Arc De Triumph is an amazing feeling, being on top of it while I am sure is an experience, just not worth the time and money to me, rather go find another open 600 year old church Places you can get skip the line passes, sure, like the Catacombs and Pantheon, well worth it Comment from : no thank you |

Biggest Mistake: wearing casual clothes It's paris, people dress nice You should too - put on a butten down shirt, avoid sneakers, maybe opt for converse or leather boots Skip the athletic clothing You will stand out as an obvious american Also- don't be loud Parisian people are quite, don't be that one annoying american speaking super loudly in english You will make yourselves look silly Aussi - apprendre un petit peu de français Savoir comment commander les plats en restaurant Parlant en francais est tres agréable, et les gens locaux apprécieront Comment from : Charlie Brodkin |

Excellent tips in the video and in the comments First time I visited was 2005 I didn't have a lot of time, but please sit and let the city come to you One can properly research hotels, sites, and restaurants with technology Go offseason if possible and always hit places early Finally, dont forget pics with free sunrises and sunsets! Comment from : Vinson Family Collectibles |
The biggest mistake I see tourists making in Paris (which is completely normal if you don't live here), is to ask for "Baguette" instead of "Baguette Tradition", or even just a "Tradition" A normal baguette equals supermarket bread, whereas a baguette "tradition" is regulated by the state with a very specific way of preparing, and costs basically the same Comment from : Antisthenes |
Yep, went for a few days with absolutely no itinerary other than seeing a modern dance, and definitely bnot/b spending any time at the Eiffel or the Louvre It was great to just wander around and discover places on my own Comment from : Irina Hynes |
