I was looking for info on the organizations massive blunders and overall track record and i had to scroll for at least half a minute through promotional videos by the Red Cross themselves, one or two videos with only a few hundred views, also clearly being surpressed by the algorithm, and videos decades oldbrbrThis video is recent, made by someone with a large pool of subscribers, and was exactly the information I was searching for And now I look at it after having finished it and see Not even 200K views even though you've got over a million subs and it's been out for 8 months That's suspicious as hell

My great grandfather was a medic under General George S Patton in WW2 He was in charge of caring for POWs The Red Cross came to provide medical equipment for the soldiers and they refused to give a German POW painkillers because he was in active appendicitis The POW was so afraid that he refused to leave the medical ward without my great grandfather at his side All the while, the Red Cross made no attempt to calm him down

Over in Austria the Red cross is heavily reliant on civil servants, which is the forced labor alternative to doing mandatory military service This means that emergancy care can be provided by inexperienced forced young menbrAs for myself, i spent that forced labor time getting poorer and doing a statistical needs assesment, which hasnt been performed for 20 years I even uncovered that a manager, who had performed a small scale assesment has inflated his data with lots of duplicates

THere was a flood in my hometown in 2018 or 2019, red cross showed up and were absolutely useless! My family had our house flooded and they just gave us a cheap mop and a gallon of bleach! When a nearby town had a gas leak/explosion that the city had people evacuate they setup some cots in the high school gym and when the local walmart donated $11k the red cross took all the credit

i volunteered at the main city shelter during hurricane harvey red cross had their thumbs up their asses while we residents organized multiple supply lines of incoming donations, routed evacuees and their animal companions to food, bedding & pet stations, directed traffic outside as evacuees & volunteers were dropped off or brought donations we started telling evacuees and new volunteers to ignore red cross and just start working or we'd send them to another group of volunteers who had called for more hands red cross got so pissed to see us running our own city shelter efficiently, they pulled us all back and had us start sorting the mountain of clothes that had been donated i got my friends and we left fuck the red cross forever and ever even the food, cots, blankets & pillows red cross was providing to people seeking shelter actually belonged to the city emergency department they were just distributing all the stuff and taking credit so we made sure to let evacuees know red cross wasn't doing shit for them, too literally just overwhelmed, confused, hapless, or pissed red-vests vaguely wandering around with clipboards not doing much to help shameful!

Back in 2016 whenever I was about 12 my family's home was burnt down by someone we knew (they didnt go to jail because there wasn't enough evidence) the red cross did nothing for us except buy us a hotel for 2 days and say they couldnt help us any more even though we used to always donate I still dont understand how people think the red cross is a nice and caring organization

During the 2018 Kilauea eruption, on Big Island, Hawaii, I was part the original volunteer effort towards evacuating and housing people and livestock from the flows path The Red Cross showed up a month or so after the eruption and took over the local volunteer shelter, and any donations coming in from that point on got locked up behind chain link (in view of the people inside the shelter) This includes futons (like daybeds for grown ups lol) blankets, sheets, etc the people in the shelter slept on the concrete floor on blankets and whatever they'd managed to bring with them The Red Cross guys told them they were waiting until enough for donated for everyone to have one each Everyone told them they didn't want a bed they just wanted one for their elders in pain, the Red Cross said no They did this with everything, I don't think they ever had "enough for everyone" of anything The meals in the shelter were provided and prepared for the people there by the community, long before the Red Cross showed up, during, and long after they left When they left, they turned these people out homeless still, disaster ongoing They never took the donations that didn't get distributed and redistributed them in anyway, maybe there's a red cross store on Honolulu or another island 🤷 there definitely wasn't one anywhere near the disaster area and none of the local thrift stores got any of the goods They literally didn't do anything other than keep the community from helping each other They were absolutely not helpful at all and just stole what people tried to give

My high school has been doing at least 2-3 red cross donation days per school year I've never donated because I'm unable to, but there have been countless horror stories that were brushed off as just being "unlucky" to come from there Several people ended up with damaged veins (I can't remember the proper term) over the years, passing out or falling afterwards was treated like a bingo for people and all but celebrated, a friend of mine once had to be jabbed several times and have the needle dug around because the phlebotomist could not properly get the needle in their veins, and couldnt even end up donating because of the damage The teachers also offered anyone who donated or got someone to donate 2 hours of community service credits, which everyone required a certain amount of hours to graduate

I live in Ukraine which, as everyone aware, is at war Red Cross offered it's "help" and did little to nothing, despite millions of people donating them money I would say they did even more evil than good, because some people were really, really counting on the help from Red Cross, but Red Cross was like "yeah no, we can't help, see ya! also thanks for the money!" DO NOT donate to the Red Cross if you want to help Ukrainians, or help really anyone; do not donate to Red Cross for any reason at all There are so many good organizations and people who are truly helping Red Cross is not one of them, sadly

That lifeguarding section was really interesting I recently got my hands on a Red Cross lifeguarding manual after my lifeguarding lessons and they seem to be doing better in actually teaching and instructing their new recruits on how to properly extricate, scan and surveillance, rescue, and approach water situations However, my class really didn’t do a lot of skill drills on scanning the pool for active or passive victims; so the statement about them being lack luster in the surveillance department is still most likely true I didn’t know about that other instructor organization though, if someone could share an experience they had with them I would greatly appreciate it

My father was a paratrooper in the South Pacific during WW2 in the 503 Parachute Infrantry Regiment He had no use for the Red Cross due to a incident in the Phillippines he personally experienced His unit had jumped behind enemy lines and had been in combat for month's They eventually fought their way back to allied lines with heavy casualties from injuries and jungle diseases They were starving and their uniforms were literally rotting and hadn't eaten in days Remember this is the 1940s, No helicopters to evacuate wounded and sick soldiers like we have today My dad said his unit stumbled out of the jungle into a Red Cross canteen The Red Cross refused to assist them and tried to make the soldiers pay for food, coffee and water They were terrible shape and he said the Red Cross treated them bad NONE OF THE SOLDIERS HAD ANY CASH They had been in combat for month's and were starving My father refused to support them and never forgot the way they were treated
