Lets start with the life of one loan:brbrSo, the banker lends out 100 grams of gold and the interest is 15 grams The money to repay the loan does not come from credit, but from people who want the service the person who got the loan is providing So the interest comes from the receipts that were issued before the banker made the loan So now the banker has 15 grams of gold that no longer has any outstanding receiptsbrbrThis being the case, "get away with" sounds needlessly derisive And why should it sound farfetched?brbrAs far as I know the goldsmiths were already wealthy before the loaning even began, so I find it hard to believe that the people did what you say they did It makes more sense to me that goldsmiths had to compete with each other so in order to get more accounts on the books they competed for the money they issued by paying interestbrbrMeeting credit demand requires no duplicity whatsoever However, informing people that it does, is duplicitous, unless you are simply mistakenbrbrThis video completely ignores the fact that bankers do an assessment of whether or not the borrower will be able to repay a loan Comment from : Robert Claypool |
