Jakie makes bad decisions She spent 100k to teach basic functions to children She could have spent a lot less and received the same job She could have worked and saved for college If she is underpaid, she can apply at higher paying jobs If teachers worked the other 1/3 of the year like the rest of us, they could repay their debts brbrPerhaps if she refuses to pay, the government can collect it from her PERA retirement account
Comment from : patrick hale

Manrique Pérez Barreto
Most of us signed that loan when we were 18 freaking years old the biggest financial decision of our lives was made when we were a bunch of stupid college kids We were tricked!
Comment from : Manrique Pérez Barreto

soju69jinro
just goto community college, get your degree, get a job if you want a certification do that, license? go for that too resume? lie about your college degree in a useless bachelor field, that way no employer will ever bring it upbrbrfor those who dont care about credit scores?brmany jobs require good credit score 600+

Sound like a good thing Jackie is not teaching kids any more

The interest should be removed

Unfortunately for Jackie, though she may feel 'morrally' in the right, if she signed on the doitted line, she will be fleeced until she is 6 feet under, ESPECIALLY since she has decided not to pay what money she took, under the terms she took them at Wage garnishment, tax returns, etc re all fair game under the terms she signed on for And by having these effects (and worsening credit), it is STILL making for a lesser life for her children than it could have been if she negotiated a payment plan that could work for her
Comment from : greg gould

Jack
People aren't gonna give up their high A$$ car payments to pay back student loans this is America now 🤷‍♂️

Unless it’s a registered nurse degree from a community college like MIami dade college it’s not worth it I’m so happy I went to miami dade and denied and decided not to go to university of miami
Comment from : Yanille Castillo

Lisa Lister
It is apparent that student loans just don't work so don't offer them Colleges and universities need to find another way for students to attend

Comment from : Mike Sawyer

H berry
People did not know what they were getting into with these loans There was overwhelming pressure to go to college for any major during high school or risk being an eternal looser At 18 years old you just think it will make sense in the end bc all adults and teachers Pat you on the back for the decision to go 100k into debt IE you will have enough to live without the loan keeping you down It’s just the way people with the loan see it They feel like they were lied to bc they were and that creates all kinds of BS Not defending one way or the other I’m glad I didn’t cave to the pressure but I feel for the kids who did Now they are trying to live with an extra car/house payment that doesnt serve them because at 28 they are way different than at 18 The thing that was sold to them as the way to not be a financial looser is now making them a financial looser
Comment from : H berry

Morrigan71
Just enroll in any of the income driven plans, pay the minimum, and they’re forgiven after 20 years anyway I’m only five years from that, so that’s all these vampires will get from this stone It’ll all change again anyway if Biden wins another term and the Dems take back the house Interesting how the government will bail out the gajillionaire banks and the d0uchebags on Wall St, but not the everyday citizen just trying to build a future
Comment from : Morrigan71

RL
If you do not pay those loans the government will stadt garnishing your paychecks with exorbinate intrest brbrDont skip them or younwill be in a world of lufetime hurt
Comment from : RL

Optimus Twon
I understand you saying that you take the loan and you knew what you signed up for Well that is not correct as an 18yo person with no experience of how the system works will just go to school and figure it out later The system needs to be changed and interest rates will never allow any student to recover and get out of it
Comment from : Optimus Twon

True
College is one big scam out boomer parents forced us into

Make College Free Again Education is not an earned privilege Everyone has the right to go to school and learn all there is to learn I’m not paying shit back
Comment from : Tiana Monique

nl212
This “I’m just going to refuse to pay” thing is a reflection of the entitled generation (Z) that my generation (X) is raising (poorly) The word LOAN implies that you understand that you’re going to repay a money that is being fronted to you So refusal to pay is the most blatant form of thievery there is
Comment from : nl212

TheDevilsAdvocate
My ex-step mother sign my signature on student loans intercepted the payment, kept them to herselfbrbrNow the bank wants me to pay it back they also refuse to go after the woman who committed the crimebrbrThe banks already got bailed out from all of this Our Government ruined the dollar and all benefits from medicaid to housing assistancebrbrBanks can kiss my whole ass
Comment from : TheDevilsAdvocate

You “ buy” for about 150k in a store during 4 yearsbrWhen it is time to pay , you say no??brWhat the hell!brI dun care how people pay as long as they get to paybrAnd, as others points out, thry will They can run their mouth but they gonna pay br🥔 not gonna save snyone
Comment from : 6teeth

Ashley Grandberry
I have a good amount of student loan debt and I plan on having it paid off within the next 2+ years Yeah the system sucks, and it is predatory suckering 18 year old kids into financial ruin However it is something we as former students signed up for and agreed to pay, so we should pay it Hopefully we get some help in the form of programs, forgiveness etc, but waiting around for the government to "fix it" is not going to help The time you are "not paying it" you've could have made tremendous progress or paid it off You are only hurting yourself by letting interest accrue
Comment from : Ashley Grandberry

Megan Hoggard
No 18 years old have no clue what they’re doing when they sign a contract at all… All they know is “you won’t get a job unless you have a college degree Nobody will look at your resume”
Comment from : Megan Hoggard

Student Loan Asset Backed Securities are more fraudulently rated than the MBS that caused the 2007-2008 crisis
Comment from : stupid pleb

Julie
I made payments and they don't even have records of it,from IRS refunds, and A Stimulas Check,I don't owe anything,But so they took my money
Comment from : Julie

Travelers
Predatory lending was not the original intent of the student loan program Predatory tuition rates are a relatively new phenomena All of your virtue signalling about 'repaying debts' is disingenuous at best Higher education is virtually free in Europe and almost all other economically advanced nations Providing debt relief to the incorrigible, incompetent corporations who brought the economy to its knees in 2007-2008, is an example of socialism for the wealthiest Americans There is no rational argument for the capitalist dystopia that you support in your video
Comment from : Travelers

All of the highschool grads in the comments are feeling empowered

Should work out for those of us who want to buy a new car, home, etc and aren't saddled with debt Demand will drop and prices/availability of supplies will improve relative to demand

I been wanting to study to become a mortician and embalming But going any school nowadays is expensivebrHopefully the companies have programs they can charge us instead to teach us for the skill They can even deduct some of our chcecks or do internships If nothing changes America is gonna have more homeless problems because the lack of affordable education is gonna have ripple effect on everything People are turning to drugs not books should be a wake up call Education should be affordable not for the extreme wealthy like the 1600s
Comment from : Mermaid

We should be contemplating why college is so expensive and not about student loan forgiveness because the latter won’t change anything for future college graduates and we will just be talking about forgiveness in a decade again If gov wants to put money towards this they need to offer fixed low interest rate loans and private variable loans should be outlawed HS counselors need to do a better job explaining loans, interest rates and ROI of majors Probably good to also include a discussion around credit cards People can bury their head in the sand regarding student loans but these loans aren’t going away It’s a choice to take on loans, a choice of ones major, a choice to pay back money borrowed, a choice to get a second job, a choice to live with parents etc Worse, there are plenty of good paying second jobs people could take on that are flexible What happens when these jobs don’t exist when a recession hits…we are already teetering and these people who choose not to pay off their loans will only help to ensure we do enter a recession
Comment from : Martin

don dennis
join the national guard, you do one weekend a month,2 weeks a year, you get a small paychek, get health bennies, you graduate debt free,no brainer
Comment from : don dennis

Critical Chris
13:30 - it is a specious, BS argument to threaten people with jail time for not paying their student loans brbrBringing back debtor’s prisons is not really in the cards, politically, and the Constitution certainly prevents an ex-post-facto situation being applied to existing borrowers And I’m not talking about true fraud to obtain loan proceeds not used for educationbrbrWesley Snipes is a poor example as he committed tax refund fraud, went all the way to trial, and a federal jury found him guilty of failure to file tax returns Sniped ultimately served 28 months in federal prison
Comment from : Critical Chris

Critical Chris
This resumption of payments WON’t be a catalyst to a recession Here’s why:br17:24 - “delinquencies” are not tantamount to default There is a program to ramp people back up into resumption of payments and good standing without damaging their credit brbrAlso, borrowers in income-driven repayment (IDR) plans will have their payments capped at 10 of their —discretionary— (not gross) income That’s a hugebrbrMany of the above group with incomes below $32,805 a year ($67,500 for a family of four) will have a $0 zero paymentbrbrAnd those zero $0 dollar payments WILL count toward the 240 months (20 years) of payments needed before an automatic statutory discharge of loan balances brbrMany of these borrowers will never fully pay off their loans, and this is by design as this is now a populist political demand affecting millions
Comment from : Critical Chris

S John
Every news outlet is missing the Student Loan story!! Student Loans were great for parents and students until OBAMA/BIDEN got involved and gave them over to the gov't and increased the rate from 17 to over 8!! OBAMA/BIDEN USED STUDENT LOANS @ 8 TO PAY FOR OBAMACAREbrAccording to the Congressional Budget Office, $87 billion of the money collected in student loan interest payments actually goes to pay for ObamaCare The CBO estimates that the interest rate on these loans could be reduced from 68 percent to only 53 percent were the funds not used to subsidize the healthcare reform law and other federal programsbrThe profits from student loans are divided as follows: $87 billion goes to pay for ObamaCare; $103 billion goes to pay down the federal debt; and $36 billion goes to Pell Scholarship grantsbrThe 16 million American students who now have student loans are paying for ObamaCare out of their meagre incomes just at the point when they graduate from college and need funds to start their lives, buy their first homes and begin a family

Quantum Effect Residue
The only way to get out of not paying it pay is if you don't have a job These heartless monsters will garnish your wages; and they can also do that with Social Security And they are the only ones that can do so Private companies can't touch SS if you're on it With that said, I will I would have never gone to college; it's put me in financial ruin for years

Here's my take, I have SL but I'm not super worried about them Fortunately my undergrad and grad is in STEM (Mechanical Engineering) and I do ok enough where my loans don't bother me I think the issue is the ROI on some majors and if I knew what I knew now, I would have said screw engineering and go become a Doctor or Attorney like my siblings (still kicking myself in the ass when I look at the difference in comp!!) Now if I get a freebie on the loans for ole Uncle Biden or whoever I'm taking it, no shame in my game If the day comes when I can't repay I have dual citizenship I'm out 😇😇
Comment from : Kedah

M S
pretty sure most people would be fine with paying back what they took brbrthe problem is, you're not paying back what you took you're paying back far far far far more
Comment from : M S

John Martin
Instead of living in luxury since 2020, they should have kept paying and they made the decision to borrow the money, these people should not receive any type of degree and only make minimum wage until the loan is paid off
Comment from : John Martin

Edward Cuevas
Bad timing for Jaki and her ilk The government is broke with a downgraded credit rating and depressed tax intake Expect a wage garish and other aggressive collection methods They will get their money
Comment from : Edward Cuevas

Paul Opportunix
Those who have SL don't have to pay it back because the debt has already been paid back by your trust l
Comment from : Paul Opportunix

Petite Cherie
You sign the paper for the loan,YOU pay it back Second job, side hustle, whatever it takes Take your lunch, thermos of coffee, etc We paid ours completely, and, yes, it did take years Accept responsibiligty brbrStudent loan grantors MUST be more transparent in stating the loan tetms IN PLAIHN ENGLISH so borrowers have a realistic idea of the true costs
Comment from : Petite Cherie

Pa Jamas!!!!
I do agree what you are saying I just pay off my student loans I may not have much as a savings, but at least my credit score will be better
Comment from : Pa Jamas!!!!

Jackie being a teach is entitled loan forgiveness after 5 years of teaching She should have tried to pay something even if it’s $100

Went to ITT Tech, graduated in 2011 w a Bachelors Got a job in 2012 in AV (everything I learned at ITT was useless but wouldn't transfer Lost my job in March 2020 and my 1st born daughter to premature birth 10 weeks later Navient forgave my 4 Peaks Private loans just months after using my 1st stimulus to pay one off ITT Tech has been shut down for about 4 years at this point A few months ago, from Borrower's Defense, i received a refund for about 30k in federal loans i had paid I owe 50k in 3 Private Loans Navient refuses to forgive (had 22 loans total at the beginning just to attend ITT for 4 years) Bc my fiance is high risk, we intend to use that money to one day afford a surrogate Tried doing the right thing and paid upwards of about $1500 a month from 2012 til when i got laid off in March 2020 Im employed, but its kinda hard to know what to do when the government and these loan companies keep changing the narrative
Comment from : Justin Cobb

I’ve almost paid all $35,000 of mine this month Was hoping for forgiveness but since that’s not happening time to take control of my own life and finances I am in control not the government $7,000 left so I’ll be done in a month or so

Vickie Clark
Wow, A 25K loan turning into 113K loan? Student loans sound a lot like payday loans except on a much higher scale I'm glad I never touched those things There are so many people that owe so much in student loan debt and they still don't make much more than a high school graduate does Sounds like the only way to keep up with student loans that is in the 6-figures is by being a doctor or lawyer Other than that stay away from those loans They are very risky and dangerous
Comment from : Vickie Clark

Sunny Lam
Put her in jail, that what I suggest I don't have money to go to school and I have to work So they should do it like me work instead of complaining, not going to pay back

You are so wrong in this video The whole time you're conflating being in debt with tax evasion we no longer have debtor prisons or debtor jails being in debt is not a crime LOL You do not go to jail for it😂 and yes You can create a business and pay yourself through an LLC There are no wages to garnish when every check you write to yourself is written from the name of your LLC and if you pay into social security you will never get Social Security LMFAO I work in commercial real estate as a broker and have had student loans for 20 years that have been in default There are no taxes to garnish because I don't receive a refund LMFAO My accountant tells me how much my S Corp owes IRS every quarter and I write a check Navient or whatever servicer of the month they use will never get their money I can't believe you're on a beach worried about what the hell we're doing LMFAO People in debt to the Department of Education should band together to worry about your taxes? LOL Go get effed my guy

Jackie won’t be able to get a loan to start a business and guess what the government will take her tax returns A lot of these people should have been making student loan payments even when they were on pause instead of blowing the government checks

I’m sorry I have to push back on this, “…you took out the loan and knew what you were agreeing to…” BS that I keep hearing, especially when it comes to the state of primary school financial literacy in the US which is abysmal and virtually nonexistent I took out my first college loan, the first loan I’ve ever taken out in my entire life at the age of 20 Here’s what I didn’t expect: 1) that I would have to pay back more than the amount that I was borrowing 2) that I would be paying that loan off for decades 3) That my loan would be passed around from financial institution to financial institution And 4), silly me, I was naive enough to believe that I was getting a FAIR deal brIf you say well, everything was in the documents, you should’ve read it…? Yeah, like the way we read the terms of service on a web site or social media app? Who actually understands that, who actually reads that? There are grown ass middle-age men and women who don’t read terms of service docs so I don’t understand how people expect 18 - 20 year olds with no financial literacy to comb though and understand the terms of service and walk into a student loan 100 clear on what is expected especially when the alternative is don’t go to school, stay poor in your rural town or inner-city neighborhood Work serial and multiple, simultaneous minimums wage jobs for most or all of your life I understand that critical thinking is in very, very short supply in this country, but I expect people who consider themselves intelligent to think about these thing before they make these stupid ass statements even if it means being self away about how we all approach long complicate leagal documents Surely you’re smart enough to know that life isn’t that simple
Comment from : Dearyvette TN

Nemo713
I paid mine off but never had a nice car or a house or anything until I was in my 30s You have to really sacrifice your life after college to pay them off I went into a 90k job straight out of college in 2012 and lived like shit for 6-7 years trying to pay them off
