I love Personal Capital but since the merge and it has become Empower it has gone downhill fast I am finding now many of my accounts will not online sync and customer service is useless Requests for help go unanswered and stay open for months with no resolutions
Comment from : Mark Ouellette

Alan Mercado
why waste 3 1/2 minutes talking about a product that no longer is alive, MS Money

Thanks for this review, I am just starting to research software that will help me budget, pay down debts My focus is a program that will show ways to pay off our mortgage I saw UFF's Money Max account and was impressed with how they guarantee we could pay off all our debts in 6-9 years including the mortgage This with no extra money I have a red stop as this software will cost us $4000+ I was hoping there was a cheaper alternative Did you look at that program? thanks, Jude

Yellowsun
LOL came here looking for a better option to Personal Capital It's been terrible since Empower took over Terrible sync problems and budgeting is more than cash flow
Comment from : Yellowsun

Robert
Personal Capital was a great tool until their aggregator Yodlee stopped working with so many institutions Perhaps they could partner with Plaid instead
Comment from : Robert

Blueprint Academy NYC
so they all suck?

I use Quicken for mostly tax filing reports ie: Bank Summary for the filing year And Transaction Summary for the filing year I'm not really looking for a 'budgeting' tool I see Tiller as a possible option I also dont necessarily want to link my bank accounts

I'd like to know what you think about Simplify

So… Personal Capital is not personal?

I actually like Quicken’s Mac version, it’s easier to install vs the PC version, I kept getting an error saying it’s malware on my old PC (Windows 10), once I got my MacBook Air late last year I downloaded that version and couldn’t be happier

Can someone help me I bought a new PC with 10 pro and have quicken 2014 home and business CD version 1 I've tried installing but keep getting code errors that do not show what it is and it crashes and closes I've tried downloading the mondo patch and still cannot get it to work I'm not a techie but I know how to do these What can I do to get this to work I do not use online services, I use it as a check register only Please help me

I was a long time user of mvelopes and loved the simplicity of it It really helped me successfully manage my money and get out of a lot of debt They abrubptly did away with the entire software in Dec 2022 and recommended Goodbudget, which I do not like so I set everything up with YNAB I honestly cannot manage my money well with YNAB It is great for tracking spending, but not budgeting (in my opinion) Do you have a recommendation on which program is most like traditional envelope budgeting?

I'm concerned What happened to Natalya? Bad breakup? Personal Capital just has, "Car" Thanks for the thorough review One of my New Year's resolutions was to replace Quicken (not used since 2005) and Quickbooks (not used since 2016) All I really need is a good Bill Manager and the ability to create and manage less than a dozen invoices per year Does Personal Capital support downloading transactions of credit card bills and individually marking them as, "Matched?"
Comment from : Rick K

Zoolookuk
I also really like Personal Capital, but my biggest issue with them is there is no way to enter manual transactions and they still don't support Apple Card, almost 2 years after Mint started supporting it I know this is down to their aggregator, but having to "split" my entire Apple Card bill across categories to get an idea of where that money went, is a chore

I can assure you that if you have a complex portfolio that has spanned several years, you are out of luck if you want to ditch Quicken For the past several years, I've looked at all the options available and its just not doable There's always a gotcha I don't just spend a couple of hours I spend days if not weeks and speak with the vendor There is no easy way to transfer your data from Quicken to another product BTW, I actually despise Quicken but it's all we got It's clunky, outdated, and pretty useless in many respects Reports are a joke Doesn't provide any link to brokerage accounts for Canadian version so all transactions have to be input manually I would do anything to kick Quicken to the curb Most of the alternatives shown here are very lightweight and can't replicate what Quicken does

Steve Massa
Does Personal Finance allow me to reconcile checking and savings accounts for month end?
Comment from : Steve Massa

Brisk2020
Nice coverage! Please do a detailed review of Moneyspire 2023 vs Quicken I have been a Quicken user for the past 18 years! But for some of the same reasons you mentioned, I'd like to switch to a solid alternative I don't like the annual subscription model that Quicken has moved to
Comment from : Brisk2020

Straw Bun
I heard Wave is free and do similar thing as quicken, and somehow wave has better review, is there any difference between them? does quicken do better than wave? do you have any idea of that?
Comment from : Straw Bun

Tim List
I went to MoneyDance from InfiniteKind because they do not orphan you like Quicken does Meaning that your software will continue to access your bank even if long term support is over
Comment from : Tim List

ziggamalay
Its a bit long winded but great video and glad you shared your reasons for changing it Thanks!

Kari Rodgers
I get paid once a month, on the 20th, so when I budget I begin my "month" on the 20th, not the 1st I having been using EveryDollar but there are features I want that it doesn't have, so I'm looking around I am trying Mint, but it won't allow me to start my month on the 20thdo you have any suggestions? Thanks!
Comment from : Kari Rodgers

The 333
Great breakdown, thank you!

thanks for the video, good to know the choices,,, I just got back into quicken and setting it up and wanted to see if there were alternatives Good to see there are some

I maybe missing something but in these days of widespread hacking, I can't imagine why anyone would store their personal financial data in the cloud (online) Why would you want Google or Microsoft or Apple tracking every single financial transaction you make? Are you not getting enough spam email and messages? You do realize these guys routinely share your financial data with the IRS?
Comment from : Brad H Johnson

I've had no luck for MONTHS with Personal Capital's so-called dashboard They cannot get my employer's retirement savings to link My employer uses a national financial company, Alight, and yet I'm stuck with manually entering 50 of my investment portfolio (just the value, not the individual investments!!) every time I want to get a dashboard view PC is a low-cost investor, but it's NOT good software for viewing your big picture
Comment from : Sh Ye

Frank
Started using Personal Capitol, worked great for a while but now it is not downloading transactions for two of my accounts and there is no work around
Comment from : Frank

Don A
Mac version is worse!!! I stopped my membership to Quicken!
Comment from : Don A

I was hopeful while watching your video because I have had the same sort of experiences with Microsoft Money (which we liked), Quicken (which became unreliable and too costly), and QuickBooks - Self Employed I also looked at Personal Capital From my experience, QB-Self Employed, Personal Capital, and Mint will bnot/b let you create custom accounts or customize reports Which means I still haven't found a decent financial software
Comment from : Lynn Shaw

MOZ
Personal Capital is not available outside of US
Comment from : MOZ

Matthew Shields
YNAB has been a great all-rounder I'm still needing to budget carefully, hence my bias If one actually is a historical data nerd, the NZ-sourced Pocketsmith takes Quicken data fairly well (about an hour of work for each past year in my case) though like YNAB is sub-based Really enjoyed the video: thank you!
Comment from : Matthew Shields

Marc Froemelt
Your statement that the desktop version does not match the cloud is hogwash I'm getting the same transaction and investment amounts in my MacOS, Chrome Browser and iPhone app Naturally the desktop version shows more data than a smaller iPhone screen, but the data is identical brbrI'm also surprised that you would entrust access to your credit/bank/invstement sources by any free version, ie "Personal Capital" There is NO such thing as a "free lunch"Any company needs to recoup their costs for developers, support staff, infrastructure, etc either through advertising, subscription or purchase Hence I advise against allowing access to financial data by anyone that can 't assure to protect and not misuse my data
Comment from : Marc Froemelt

Jeff Leatherman
Really great video I like that you really took us through your reasoning process I have three comments/questions First, I agree with you that creating a budget and tracking your spending against it in Quicken is really difficult For that reason I have strongly considered trying out YNAB and Every dollar, but I'm concerned they would not do as good a job as Quicken of tracking my investments, most of which are in our Rollover IRAs How do you set up your budget categories in Personal Capital? Do they suggest monthly/annual amounts based on your spending or do you come up with those amounts yourself, or a bit of both? Second, if you do want to get more granular with your expense tracking, how customizable is the program and does it offer flexibility with reports? (Quicken offers very limited report customization so I often have to export data to excel to produce the reports I need, which is a time consuming pain) Third, you say that after declining their services one time, PC left you alone, but I have read comments from others who tried the program and report that they were pestered and frequently called to solicit their business One individual said they continued to call him, even after he closed his account Do you think your experience with PC is normative?

Sunscreen Al
Ditching Quicken sounds great Personal Capital looks good Considering the title is Ditching Quicken, is there a step by step way of moving accounts from Quicken into Personal Capital?
Comment from : Sunscreen Al

Waste of time, talks about a discontinued software Talks about REPORTS, Does not get into how the entries are made/Justified other than Bank Downloads
