I've heard that schools no longer have electronics classes, or shop classes in general That's what happens when you choose low taxes over better educationbrWhen I was in Junior and Senior High School in the Seventies, they had all sorts of shop classesbrin 7th Grade Electronics, some joker shorted out a huge capacitor on purpose It filled the room with white smoke Comment from : TighelanderII |

That the guy here didn't fully review his own video before posting it is bad The "hot mic" audio at the end is very unprofessional Comment from : TighelanderII |

i miss these cant find anything like it Comment from : Israel Mata |

I have this unit and agree there is no explanation about what you are trying to do It is much like a book of recipes It should be considered a supplement to a lecture course just like a college level electronics course A good companion would be ELECTRONICS: A SELF-TEACHING GUIDE by Harry Kybett I should also mention my workbooks were not out of order and the author of those books did a lot of electronics manuals for Radio Shack over the years The weird script in the manuals is Forest Mimms III's personal handwriting We aren't worthy, haha Comment from : Cratecruncher |
|
The only thing I didn't like about it was the font But I could understand all the other things he found annoying I'm learning with both this RadionShack kit, and the Arduino Starter Kit, so that may be why I wasn't as disappointed Comment from : Iane B |

My review of this channel is that it is weak even for the twelve year old doing it Comment from : Chris Long |

What?! Really confusing for begginers?! That is not true, at least not for some I knew nothing before I started that lab, and it was super easy for me to understand This lab helped me a lot, because I just did not got the idea of electronics from reading books Have you even tried using it? Comment from : Angelina Karpenok |

I can't stand reviews that complain about a product but don't suggest a better alternative So what have you accomplished? Comment from : Ronnie Perez |

These kids these days! I'm telling you! And just for the record, this thing is good for a lot of things, in fact, I have my Pi Cobbler plugged into mine and use it to design circuits that interface with my Raspberry Pi And I have a great number of Mims' books - they are a good source to learn electronics from Comment from : Derrik Walker |
|
Did you at least try the zit zapper circuit? Obviously not It's on page 43, right between pages 51 and 63 in your manual Comment from : Ha Hah |

I purchased one of these kits in 1994 for my nephew and was playing around with it today (he returned it so my kids could use it) Individuals that have actually used this particular kit you review have posted very positive detailed reviews on the RS web site Their experience matches mine Unfortunately it appears RS no longer produces this product You need a little curiosity and persistence to enter this area If the manual are anything like the ones from my kit all you really need to do is sit down and read them But once you build something you typically spend more time trying out different things to learn how changing components affects the project This is an Excellent learning environment which is often amplified by the participation of a parent If you get stuck supplement what you don't know with other resources I'm curious what you expected to gain from the kit and how much time you spent working with the kit You state there are other 'better' choicesdid you find one that you liked? for $70? You are missing the point altogether kid, you are being taught how to use measuring equipment as well as electronics You need to know about both to learn anything Yeah!! Comment from : EMC2 |
|
First of all young en', you really need to know what you are actually talking about To make review of learning tools like that lab, you need to have a knowledge of electronics, and the experience that goes with it You have neither brThere is nothing wrong with anything that helps one learn, some kids haven't got the money for that lab, and have to make do with breadboards, I bet they know more about electronics than you ever willbrIt depends on everyone knowing what it is they want to learn about electronics AND why they want to learn about it 999 give up when they encounter the resistor color code, or how many different parts there are in electronicsbrI guess what I'm saying is, IF YOU CAN'T LEARN ANYTHING AT ALL ON THAT LAB, DONT USE IT, IT'S NOT FOR YOU, BUT OTHERS CAN AND WILL LEARN BY USING IT Comment from : EMC2 |
|
Great Review - I always wondered why too WHY THE HELL they used that ugly font! Comment from : NJ LIFE-HACKER |
|
seriously? you couldn't understand basic electronics? I read this and understood it fine, I don't have much experience either Comment from : pacman80500 |

Yep Comment from : Technoguy3 |
|
I know a little about electronics and was wondering does this have the schematic diagrams as well for complete projects if you wanted to make them into freestanding items? Comment from : Nakasasama |
|
Any recommendations for a similar but superior product? Are the 75 / 300 in one boards any good? What about the alternative radio shack sensors lab? As you say, it would also be good to have explanations and info on the experiments and components Comment from : TheDroidBay |
