Looks like there is an error on the weight for the marmot superalloy Some websites are incorrectly showing it as 2 lbs 11 oz it’s actually 2 lbs 4 oz all in That includes the stuff sacks, poles and stakes Comment from : Dan Becker |

Sierra Designs is the backpacking/camping brand that nobody talks about My dad bought a "2 person" SD Orion AST back in the early 2000s based on advice from an REI salesman He used it extensively for motorcycle touring I still use it for single-person treks It's very similar in shape/design to that Clip Flashlight tent in this video But, the tent is light, easy to set up, tall & roomy, and just a great tent for solo camping (though you could squeeze 2 inside it) I have not tested it in heavy rain and, after 15 years, it probably could stand to be re-proofedbrbrIf I had to buy a new tent today, I'd look at Marmot (have some great stuff and always seem to be able to find on sale), Sierra Designs, and Paria (based on the reviews Dan Becker has given in the past 2 years) Comment from : 67L48 |
@danbecker I would love to see your take on the $110 Featherstone 1P tent Comment from : Jeremiah Mullens |

I had a eureka solitaire for years but it was too small for comfort and not very stableeureka Suma 2 for probably 10 years and I've slept in it hundreds of times I love that thing Also has titanium poles so they won't degrade I think the thing was still under 4 lbs Comment from : zachary sherry |
I just can’t get behind any tent it’s not free standing I don’t even under stand what people do if it is rocky or something Comment from : GoldenGoat |

Is it at all possible to get a 2 person tent under $200 that covers all the bells and whistles Some are light, some are better with heoght, some are 2 walled but there doesnt appear to be a tent that does it all at once Comment from : Glenn Foster |

Those lockdowns didn't age well Keeping people locked in their homes was literally the worst thing they could have donebrHiking and camping, THE EPITOME OF SOCIAL DISTANCING, would have been the best thing to do Physical health, mental health, and the 'Rona' dies in UV light Which is the bSun/b Comment from : MidnightModder |
I just got my sierra designs high side I’m 5’6 and it seems perfect for me It is small but the quality is great My favorite feature is the vestibule that can turn into a canopy when you stake it out with trekking poles or some sticks I chill under it with my chair and drink my coffee But yes It’s a glorified bivy, in a good way Comment from : Hiker_Trash_Likes_Gear |

Still using my 35ish-year-old North Face Bullfrog when I have to go to ground or when one of my kids so desires Just snapped the elastic on one of my poles Time to repair Never a drop inside this performer Just camp a season, seam seal, and repeat Love seeing the new gear, though I have gone full on hammock Nice to be off of the ground Hammock, tarp, and straps come in way below these tents Comment from : HappyLemur |
You need to include if it’s freestanding or semi -freestanding Big difference for air travel so you don’t need stakes and thus check your bag versus carry on Comment from : Randy Holloway |
Any thoughts on the "TrailLark Ultralight 1-Person 42oz (263lb) Backpacking Tent" from Amazon? Doesnt look like anyone has reviewed it yet, but the specs seem really good for the price! Comment from : Zoltoks |
As someone who only know Backcountry through you tube creators (and more importantly for this comment, living in EU) I'm not all too impressed by their sending me to their sister site's main page instead of the page for the item in question (or some message about it not existing at Bergfreunde) Either it costs me time or I decide that it's not worth my time, neither is good if they want me as a costumer ^^brbrWhen it comes to tents it'd be interesting to see how you'd rate tents made by Bergans, Fjällräven, Hilleberg, Helsport etc (though, I guess this comments belongs to your sub $400 or 800, I guess Comment from : Rannon |
Dan before this video did you do caffeine or coke?? Comment from : tim sosnoskie |

So many of these are out of stock or have been replaced by a new version, I think you need to do another update video already! Comment from : MLB Michigan |
Why havent you reviewed the Paria Outdoor tents? They are almost all under or around the $200 mark and I would be hard pressed to find something equal that offers what they offer for their price This isnt a sales pitch, the company actually wants to make affordable, durable, and lightweight gear that everyone can afford seriously, review them please Comment from : Chuck Miller |
I wish I could shop from Backcountry Comment from : A K |
budget tents are $4 at garage sales, bought many Comment from : ARMADILLO |
Hey Dan, I'm very interested in the Suma 2 but I'm 6'5" and not able to find one to test-fit myself in it Not sure how tall you are, but I'm curious to know if you could give me some indication on whether or not you think it would fit someone my size? 88" tents can be hit or miss for me depending on the slope of the walls Thanks! Comment from : S R |

Pretty cool Kinda like that marmot tent 👍 Comment from : Eric Judd |
I have the Suma 2 that I got for $109, or maybe even $99 after rebate from Eureka when they first came out It is a nice tent if you are OK with one door and very sturdy But, the fact of the matter is that the lanshan 1, or 2 or the pro versions are by far the best value in this area (I have a 1 pro also) They are well under $200 and very light and well put together For anyone who is OK with a non free standing tent and weight and value is important, these are certainly worth a look Comment from : Christopher Haak |
Can you do a review on Hyke and Byke 2 person tent?? Comment from : Carole Mayfield |

Thanks for your review I think I will spend the extra money!! That's a nice tent! Comment from : Wayne Evans |
The downfall of all those tents you have shown has very bright colors, not stealthy at all These tents will give your location away or makes it easy for strangers to spot you camping in the woods Comment from : Darill Fowler |
I am SO glad to see someone talking about the Suma 2 by Eureka It’s a damn fine tent! Easy on the budget and not too heavy I bought mine in 2018 for $99 USD on a Black Friday special Comment from : Scott Campbell |
Ozark Trail bivy tent 32 pounds Check er out! It builds a fair amount of condensation though Comment from : Ben S |
Hey Dan - I have a chance to purchase the Sierra Clip 2 at 65 bucks, but it is 15 years old Would you consider purchasing this for a starter tent? Maybe I could rewater proof it somehow? Comment from : Keele V |

As a European, I wouldn't consider these tents are 3 season tents Yes, they are 2 layers, but the doors to the tents are all single-layer nets I've found in colder temperatures having a cover for the net door makes a huge difference to the temperature Like I'm sure they will still be ok at 5 Celcius or like 40 Fahrenheit, but for me, 3 seasons should be good at freezing as well and without that extra protection, I imagine it's a bit colder Comment from : Joe Foster |
Hey Dan, did you ever do a review of the Kelty Salida2, or know of a decent review you've seen Backpacker mag did one a while back I know it's an old model thanks for sharing all this ! Comment from : theGarinator |

The snugpak ionosphere 1 person is a great option too, I've used it in all kinds of weather and has a high waterrepellency, it's not a bivy but it's not really a tent it's sort of both but it's not too pricey, worth checking out too, con's is you can't sit up in it and it's not freestanding Comment from : Adam |
Lots of nice 1 and 2 person tents, but what about three people (well, two adults and a child)? Comment from : temporaryscars |
God damn, its crazy how some of these "high end" tents don't have some of the features of cheap $40 Canadian tire tents for example a meshed vent on the door i thought that was kind of a standard tent thing and almost used as some sort of a "window" but apparently not lol Comment from : EuropeanLegend |
