I am a mom of ADHD and also teacher and in my class there are sometimes ADHDs I am teaching a language What would be the best way for my ADHD kids to teach them? What teaching techniques? I have tried some, like jumping on the flash cards However, I still struggle to teach other kids when my ADHD one gets to loud😢

When I was in grade 8, my algebra honors teacher accommodated me and made me feel welcome in his classroom even without knowing I had ADHD (or me knowing) and I’m still grateful for what he did to this day!brbrHe knew I got bored easily especially since I tended to finish a lot earlier than my classmates, so he gave me material that was further ahead (that was optional), which was very fulfilling for mebrbrI have also been lucky enough to have several wonderful teachers over the years who inspired me and acknowledged my strengths and potential instead of just calling me weird or antisocial

I'm a student in 10th grade with ADHD, since 3rd grade most of the teacher at my school hated me for not being good enough, kept telling me I had to try harder always There were times when I didn't feel like I was important, even now My teachers hate me to the core and they always criticized my every single move, to the point that I lost it and became suicidal I remember how much I hated myself for not being able to do thing that my friends were able to do Even after my medication I was always yelled and scolded Now I'm at a point that I don't want to go to school Everyday I was being compared with my younger brother(doesn't have ADHD) who was great in studies, all I want that teachers to understand that their comments hurt a lot Being labeled as a bad person, stupid, hopeless kid, etc brThanks for this video really

I homeschool 😉 I was always that family member entertaining the kids (& sometimes the adults) at family events Often, I would set up a craft table I had a lot of family saying I should've been a teacher (Community College Business drop out here) The thing I've always said - I would rather teach the "spirited" kids (like my family has) - Don't get me wrong, some days are challenging, but I love every minute of it!! That passion to learn, once interest, is unrivaled!! Sometimes, we even invite cousins & friends to join in

I am a swim instructor and we occasionally have some HDHD kids I in the past have been successful, but it was many years ago, watching your video and watching you struggle to do such a wonderful job on this video, knowing I saw tears in another moment, I saw a new clip meaning you had to pause and compose yourself I think you are beautiful, brilliant and so helpful to my soul that you inspire me to help my other coworkers to take this challenge and help these young kids learn to swim and to demonstrate to them they are special thank you and God bless you

I'm a Fellow brain, I work with special needs kids I needed this, I wasn't diagnosed until this year so unfortunately there have been occasions where I've been the "you just need to focus" adult I hope I can change my viewpoint to be more of a support for them, and be kinder to myself when I even have issues focusing

I had an online student with severe ADHD who could not focus more than two seconds after I finish a sentence I suspected what the problem was but still I was troubled interracting when everything I would say would essentially be ignored I love tutoring but not sure how to interact with another student What training might an educator take do to be better in these situations?

Ellie Pelham
I'm in my first year as a Pre-K teacher Most of my students are busy and are building up their impulse control, but two of them seem to struggle far beyond the mean I don't want to shut them down and start their school years off on the wrong foot, but I find that raising my voice tends to be the only thing that changes their behaviors when they're being especially disruptive to our activities because otherwise they don't seem to notice I'm even trying to connect or speak with them One of them definitely seems to be aligning with severe ADHD behaviors - any advice for this age group?

Heather Torrance
My son's second grade teacher told me that when he finished his work quickly and started to distract other students, she just gave him more work He's really into the history of Ancient Rome, so she'd say, "Hey, have you read this book about ancient Rome yet?" Or, "Hey, this book isn't about Rome, but Ancient Greece battled against Rome, you should read about them, too" Etc It really helped direct his energy and he learned so much that year, and he LOVED school!

FANNY MARTINEZ
I went thru the same my whole life and in 16 yrs of school, I had only 5 teachers that did understand my brain But because of the bad teachers, I learn to hate school and I drop out of high school at 16yrs old And I want to go back to finish and have a career but it gives me anxiety to even think about school no matter it's in person or online And my kid has ADHD too and he only had 1 teacher that help him and understood but it breaks my heart to know that he will go thru the same as me

Ummm this hit really hard - like, deep down hard My son has ADHD and the struggle is real I understand what he goes through but soooo many others do not - doesn't matter the situation or location Do you ever feel that most people just think of ADHD like its really nothing when its really everything in our lives? They don't understand what we really go through every-single-day I found it rather hard to breathe after watching this video because it hit too close to home These are the exact things that I cannot ever seem to put in to words for my son I will let this video be his words when he cannot find the words and when I share it with his teachers moving forward Thanks - more than you know Rob
Comment from : Rob G

Adriana Espinosa
I'm a teacher and really want to help my students I have noticed that even working in a small group doesn't help I like the idea of sending them a post-it note reminding my students to ask for help when needed (You made me cry!, thanks for sharing your story! You're enough!)
Comment from : Adriana Espinosa

Klassic by Design
I am a teacher married to a brain who has been sharing your videos I work for a 100 online school, so what would you suggest for helping students with ADHD who are schooling from home from having their executive dysfunction have them skip class? I can offer suggestions for a distraction free schooling environment, but those are not always possible and since they are on their computers I suspect a few "rabbit holes" are bound to happen I'm more worried about the students who never show up

Groovy Movie Storytellers
Thank you for your videos! It helps me to understand better what my daughter goes through with her school assignments I was trying to find if there is any virtual K-12 school so kids with ADHD could have specifically designed assignments that consider specificity of their brains and condition There are so many kids with ADHD (diagnosed and undiagnosed) that you think that they deserve the school that meets their needs It has to be an affordable school too Maybe someone could start one?

Nidia Shalabi
I am grateful to be lucky enough to have my child in a school where both his teacher and the principal have so much love and admiration for his brain He had lost confidence and love of learning in another school in first grade He absolutely feels loved by his teacher and free to be who he is at this current school It is CRUCIAL for teachers and other educators to be educated in the subject of diverse learning
Comment from : Nidia Shalabi

cinnamaricat
in school i was the kid that loved every class and what i was learning but i got in trouble constantly for not following directions and still feel to this day that some of my teachers hated me i didn't understand their instructions and in classes where i felt like the teacher hated me i just totally gave up and there was even one teacher i remember being totally afraid of but i never understood why she was yelling at me and just thinking of her makes me cry bc i'm still scared of ppl yelling at me to the point that i have intense anxiety about it i had undiagnosed adhd that i didn't know was the cause of my misunderstanding of instructions and i wish i could go back in time and give little me a hug and tell her "you're doing good enough don't let mrs kloss scare you into believing that your effort isn't good enough" i still wish i had a teacher who saw i was struggling and told me this bc of the effect that she and a few other teachers had on me that i'm trying to reverse i just want to ask all teachers pls be paitent with students and not yell at them you're just creating trauma and anxiety and many other things the student will struggle with instead try to understand bc sometimes it's just a misunderstanding like i thought i was supposed to finish both papers before turning them in but didn't understand she wanted to see the first paper before i started the second one it's not that i didn't pay attention i just didn't understand that instruction until i had already turned in both assignments bc my brain misinterpreted the instructions (not the teacher who yelled at me it was a more understanding one i only use this example bc with mrs kloss i never knew what i did wrong i only knew that i made her angry and now i'm traumatized by shouting even if it's not at me)

I'm a school social worker and am so grateful for you! You are the only person who speaks to those with ADHD, not about "them" How can I help students overcome the boredom in class? Can you do videos directed to the students with activities for them to do to help learn self-regulation strategies? You are such a great advocate and voice for them I want them to know they are not alone

I am a after school care teacher with ADHD looking for ways I can help my 7 year old student He is harder to work with compared to other kids with ADHD because he is really rude too He gets distracted every couple of seconds, bother other kids, makes loud noises(sometimes offensively to his peers or teachers) I alter the classroom environment and my teaching to be more conducive for him, I have a reward chart and let him understand I am there to help him but sometimes it’s just so hard to have him in class especially when I have to focus on other kids too Any tips?

I was crying during this Im in that one teachers class right now and I'm actually lucky enough to see her twice a day and that she seems to like my mom I beat myself down a lot, but when my impulses help me during group studyies she tells me how well I did When I am in her AVID class and show her a picture or idea I came up with in class, she doesn't tell me to sto that or that I shoud have been listening She tells me how well I did or how it looks in a sincere voice which i dont usually get from my peers She's really kind and she always has been wvwn before she knew I had ADHD I'm always going to be greatful that I have her as a teacher who gets to talk to my parents, who will be in charge of my math and AVID clas, and will always show me kindness that I may have never felt from a teacher before

Mina Khalili
Amazing video thank you! God, I have tons of questions But first one, have you done any video's on stategies for online teaching to ADHD kids, to make the classes more fun and interactive? Online learning is boring for kids to start with But I think that's more true for ADHD kids, they need more movement Am I right? I really appreciate if you or anyone here can lead to me a resource to give me stategies for that Thank you!

Connie Waddell
Hi Jessica: Can you do an updated one on this? I worked out some of it on my own, but it's always good to have a refresher I once had the luck while teaching LEGO Robotics to have two ADHD kids and an autistic kid at the same time That was a challenge! fortunately I'd been doing it for a while and was able to spot what was going on I had special sets of equipment for them and gave them individual assignments, but it wasn't easy I swapped the autistic kid to the least visually stimulating spot I could find although now I wish I'd known about headphones Oddly enough I'm an ADHD-er myself, but I don't feel I ever balanced what the kids needed with what the school demanded very well

I almost never got my homework done I don't know if it was my chaotic home life or my inability to structure my time brI do know that I often got lectured by the teacher, in front of the entire class, sometimes they would apologize to the class for having to take time out to lecture me brbrOf course that didn't help me do any better, it just embarrassed me and humiliated me and made me dread school It set a pattern for the rest of my life of assuming that I wouldn't get something done and feeling guilty in advance brbrIn 7th grade, my teacher and/or my principal decided I should be sent down to the 2nd grade classroom to sit in the corner and feel ashamed for disturbing their class Looking back I think that should have been illegal I didn't tell my parents about it for a long while after it started, because I was embarrassed (Needless to say, the school didn't inform my parents about it either) My parents pulled me out of that school at the end of the year brbrI still was never diagnosed until my mid 30's I'm 40 now I'm starting to learn some things, and mostly I'm starting to learn to forgive myself for what wasn't really my fault

Hey, I have a student with ADHD and I can see that he's brilliant, but I also can see that I don't know how to make school work for him And that's on mebrSo, I have some questions about what I could do better in these situations Beware this is a 7 year old student:brbr* I am a second language teacher, and the problem I am facing right now is that he keeps talking really loudly during the lesson, to the point where I can't even teach anything What could I do to work with this?

Michael Perez-Guerra
This is perfect! I was recently diagnosed with ADHD (at 39) and realize that even though I have made my classroom a safe place and have a gentle touch with kids, and make a ton of mistakes myself (math) I think I've enabled procrastination in some by being open about deadlines (I also don't want to grade it, so if it comes in late, I have to wait) I also have brains in my room who see me skip around excitedly, go on tangents, and use props to explain things I don't try to entertain anyone, it just happens, but it kind of works sometimes, but against me most times as I generally have a hard time finishing my lessons brbrAnyway, I would like to have a basket of fun things to let them play with as a reward or break, but need to know how to do this in a helpful way to the students and to myselfbrbrLet me know of some fun toys you would like to play with, or have played with, or wish you could play with

meh!
thank you for this I don't know if my student actually has adhd, but I don't believe she's just naughty, and she's so smart brbrI'm not sure it's a good idea for me to suggest to her parents, so I'm just going to continue to be patient, try some strategies and hope things improve Whether she is ADHD or not, I think the fidget toys is an excellent idea she sometimes brings things to class that light up and distract I think I'll provide some toys that don't light up and make noise
