just found the video and its not hard to decide that I like it really much Thank you guys a fun way to share infos Comment from : Andung Sayogo |
Best advice I've gotten is shop the perimeter The sides and back are where the meat, dairy, produce, and eggs are and the shelves in the middle are where the processed and premade food is (worse for you and more expensive) I'll go in the middle aisles for pasta, rice, beans, etc Sometimes but avoid instant meals and junk food Comment from : Patrick Lippert |
Very great info!brThanks! Comment from : Vladislav Karas |
I still recommend the hand basket It makes sure you don't buy too much to carry home Comment from : ElectricErger |
I start backwards at the eggs, meats first I always have a list, its very important to not to pick up extra stuff I don't fall for the tricks at the grocery store Comment from : DCsegaDH |
This seem rather dated now & for US customers only, in Europe eggs don't have to be refrigerated as its illegal to wash them in bleach, a common practice in North America Also self checkout via an app is more commonplace in the UK where several Supermarkets offer cheaper prices than cash transactions via the Till Comment from : St John Manson |

integza is that you ? Comment from : arvi padrik |
God We live in such a predatory society It could be so much different We shouldn’t need to be hyper vigilant to buy food Comment from : Augusta Rohde |

Good video!!! Comment from : Kenneth Fagan |
Some really good points here, but I would also add: 1 Skip the more expensive "organic" food - it's neither better for you nor better for the environment 2 Frozen vegetables and fruits are cheaper and hold their nutrition longer than fresh produce If your budget is limited, buy those Also: Contrary to the presenters here, DO NOT PUT EARBUDS IN AND LISTEBN TO MUSIC WHEN YOU ARE OUT IN PUBLIC AND IN A STORE, YOU NEED TO BE AWARE OF YOUR ENVIRONMENT Thank you Comment from : Ron Aryel |
Cash soon won't be an option so it'll be harder to realise how much we spend :( Comment from : Paul Silva |
My tip: Only carry a basket That way you're limited to what you actually need/came for Comment from : Michael S |
Yup, I am not getting into the store without a list made a day or two before that Also it is more commont for me to drop items from the list, than to add new ones while I'm at the store I am ordering the items in the list the same way, that they are ordered in the store, so I don't go back and forth wasting time and looking at something I possibly won't need And the only stuff that gets into the list is stuff that I found I am missing at home, so basically it's necessary and I really need it Comment from : Damyan Dimitrov |
I am immune to the psychological ploys of layout, music and color First, I'm colorblind Second I rarely shop away from the refrigerated perimeter, getting only fresh meats and vegetables or hitting up the Deli If you just stick to the perimeter and skip all the boxed and canned, processed foods you will get the most calories per dollar and you will be eating MUCH healthier Comment from : InformationIsTheEdge |
well, funny, but none of these work on me Comment from : 𝒮𝓉ℰ𝓁𝒾𝒶 |

I'm such a tightwad that these things are second nature But I know not everyone is, and that stores are purposefully booby-trapped to get your money Good tips!! brbrEdit -- I did not know about the water spray The tightwad in me will definitely be shaking the produce from now on! (although, a lot of stuff I buy is priced per-item, but I'll still keep it in mind) Comment from : kaitiscarlett |

01:45, I was working in a supermarket where I needed to weight the fruits into the plastic with 1 kilo of water and they costed 2 or 3 more, and the fruits contained 400 grams in total and beside I needed to change the tags and it never expires, expired's date only changes, but this product never expires, it costed 1'60€ and the real weight costed 0'80 cents or less Comment from : Oriol Rodríguez Del Olmo |

Great video Appreciate the content 🙂 Comment from : The German Engineer |
I believe most of the things in this video, but the "milk at the back of the store" seems like a conspiracy theory They put the cold stuff last because br1) They don't want it to melt in your cart while you walk around the storebr2) The dairy coolers have a storage room behind them, in the back of the store Comment from : Sangria |
I'd rather spend money at the grocery store than a restaurant, fast food, delivery, takeaway, movie theatre, kiosk, deli or convenience mart It's by far the cheapest bang for your buck So yeah, trick me into buying it, I don't care Chances are I wanted to buy it anyway if I reached out for it I'll just be paying a cheaper price to cook that package of frozen breaded chicken at home instead of ordering KFC Comment from : Edsel Greaves |
lol people are getting supersized too Comment from : mark cameroon |
I really dislike the visual and negative association of being fat with a "lose/lose/lose" situation I don't like that kind of sizeism and don't support its use in a video trying to teach about money & grocery stores GROSS!!!! Comment from : canuckgirl1212 |

I personally disagree with this advice I don't think a grocery store is the best place to save money - when I do that I always end up getting takeout WAY more (I mean, I can get a beautiful ribeye steak for $8 or a shitty plate of takeout food for $15) So what I do is go to the grocery store hungry and get whatever the hell I want, which helps because I make realistic choices about what I want when I'm hungry rather than excessively healthy/optimistic things that often get wasted It's good to have a list so you can have a good few meals planned but I don't see anything wrong with impulse purchases brbrBut I'm frugal to a fault (I bet a lot of people watching this channel are) so I often have to compensate in the other direction Comment from : topochicooooo |

Yep, I keep a list and plan my meals for the week so I only get what I need or restock on the essentials Another tip is try to get everything from that section of the store while you’re there so you don’t backtrack later to try to find it (might add more junk and you may forget what you needed to buy) Comment from : Lady Grey |

Pro tip- I work at a grocery store, so I know the knowsbrDon't pay for the full weight on veggies/fruit I've literally seen people peel bananas and put them in a bag (I guess that's fine if you're using them for a banana bread or something?) brI've seen people peel onions down, why pay for that leathery skin you're gonna just rip off at home and trash anyways? GRAPES People pick off just the amount of grapes they want and put them in a bag, and leave a half barren bag of grapes/stem sitting on the display brbrOh, and 1 employee 'watching' a dozen customers at the self-checkout? Be honest can't you 'accidentally' not know what you're doing and just ring just about anything up at some of the lowest cost/lb? Why choose organic heirloom tomatoes, just hit the regular roma tomatoes and weigh them- whew! That saved $5! Oh wow Broccolini? How much is That gonna-- oops, I clicked Jalapeno peppers, oh well, better weigh it- bputs it half on/half off the scale/b 17 cents for all that?! Woah!brTwo boxes of cereal- one dirt cheap 24 oz brand and Another far more expensive 24 oz brand? Let me pick them both up scan that cheap one-- and in the bag goes the expensive one! What, that scale can't tell the difference? What's the worst thing that can happen, a super diligent employee rushes over and politely says, "I think you made a mistake" and you just go, "I'm sorry, I'm not very good with these machines, can you help me?" Don't feel bad, we do not ever have real losses in the business If people steal we pass that burden on to honest paying customers with price increases, or we cut hours on already understaffed and overstressed employeesbrbrAlso There is NO SUCH THING as an EXPIRATION DATE So stop throwing everything away after you read that it "expired" a couple days ago! brYou are the consumer, it is up to You to determine if something has spoiled Sniff it, look it over, taste it, odds are its Fine Things that Do spoil fairly quick around the Sell By date include Dairy and Meat items So Freeze any Meat you won't be using within a couple days, and don't overstock on dairy !brThere are suggested dates on just about everything, where they can pretty much guarantee the product is still fresh up through that datebrbrOh, and Learn to shop Ads, use Coupons/Digital Sales, and check your store weekly after its 'ad change' for items that have been marked for Closeout / Clearance ( save 50, 75, 90 and Stock UP! ), and Buy in Bulk when things hit their Lowest price of the year (Looking at you 19 cent pasta deal) And for the love of god if you ever hear of a grocery store closing- Everything will be cheap Get the luxurious high-tag items that rarely go on sale for 50 or more offbrbrAnd LOOK at your receipt, be sure the sale prices are on it- almost every other grocery day I find myself having to flag someone at the checkout down and tell them that such and such product isn't ringing up correctly, and they'll just override the price to what its advertised for brHow much do I spend on groceries a month? Less than $200 And I Rarely eat out, always cooking Comment from : President Biden |

Supermarket profit margins are low because of the inventory costs Same reason why they also have a Quick Ratio of less than 1:1 Supermarkets are effective because of the scale of the opperation Can you imagine the total waste from the perishables accross the massive company?
