I wonder if the sort of fine-tuning based on corpus statistics he's attempting is missing the point that individual students will differ greatly in their interests and previous experience, so what is relevant and easy for one to learn will go over the head of another?brPerhaps the best approach would be simply to expose the students to as wide a range of language as possible, to "throw it all at the wall" in the hope that some is bound to stick The point being that what does stick, and in what order, may be quite different from student to student Just give them plenty of access to 'real' texts in the target language Easy now with so many news items, blogs etc available on-line, for any major language at least, and even for smaller ones (Eg for Welsh language blogs : wwwblogiadurcom/hafan/) Comment from : marconatrix |
