Just wanted to point something out for discussion’s sake You mentioned that Netflix is a lot less useful than skillshare, which would seem to subtly imply that watching television is a waste of timebrbrI don’t think watching television is a waste of time I only point this out because it’s so often used as an expression to denote someone or something which is uncreative, inactive, or otherwise inept/unsatisfactory in some way But watching TV is no more a waste of time than reading fiction A stage—and perhaps an ongoing one—of consuming narrative is absolutely vital for a successful storyteller, whether that be a novelist, a screenwriter, a playwright, or whateverbrbrAs an aspiring novelist, I take advantage of every little piece of story I consume by analyzing it, deconstructing it, judging it and criticizing the living hell out of it Despite having learned the craft of storytelling as communicated via prose, I find that I give much more salient critical insight regarding movies and TV shows now than I ever have beforebrbrAnd that brings me to my next little sub-tangent What you don’t realize while you’re honing a skill is the huge number of things you’ve already mastered (as it pertains to that skill) If you’re a practiced, professional-quality graphic novelist, the learning curve for writing short stories will naturally tend to be much flatter than it would be for someone who hasn’t ever tried to seriously analyze plot, character, themes, symbols and so on in any meaningful waybrbrThe lesson to take from this unorganized and spontaneous comment about that insignificant little irrelevant thing you said in jest is this: to hone a skill, it’s best to constantly be looking for opportunities to apply the principles of the skill you’re learning to things which seem unrelated on a surface level You might not think physics class is interesting until you find ways to exploit that knowledge to excel in sports After all, physical objects behave according to the laws of physics Of course, I don’t know specific examples of how one might apply physics to sports because that was off the top of my head, but it’s a decent enough example and this comment is getting way too long so I’m gonna stop now Comment from : Jebediah’s Emporium |

#question brHow to learn a skill or behavior you rarely use? Like asking questions, presenting, focusing when distracted, thinking positive when you are down, helping when help is due, so classic learning does not work, since you need the context / situation to actually practice So when the triggers appear you must remember that you want to learn and recall what you have already learned brAny ideas or experiences how to accomplish that? Comment from : Martin Lichtblau |
|
Hello Thomas, I really like your videos, you tell in this video that you train your working memory, can you tell me some of the exercise that you do for this?brbrThanks Comment from : ALFREDO AVILA |
