11:19 please don't take this the wrong way, as I've mostly watched your ix/i photographers shoot the same model series and enjoy the various tip videos I come across, but that moment was so adorable LOL, brbrSerious question though, what is it that you say after, "why did that just rhyme" and before "okay that's pretty cool"? I've replayed it at least 20 times and can't figure it out I know it's nothing important or applicable to the video but I'm really curious because it sounds like an expression I'm not familiar with and if it is, it would give me an alternative to, "you're a poet and you don't even know it!" xD

“In a definitive sense, a retainer is a fee that is paid in advance in order to hold services (ie a wedding or event date) While a deposit may also reserve a date, it is returned when the services have been completed A retainer is by default non-refundable and is not returned” I recommend changing your contract to say retainer rather than deposit just a tip I learned ❤️😌
Comment from : SELMA AL

crming
Good information Could you do a video about your editing process? Specifically addressing what you put in your contract about editing Maybe sharing an experience where a client wasn't satisfied with the edits and they had to be revisited brbrThank you

theres tons of ways i was never a people person but id buy good quality camping gear set it up on a mountain in a wild scenic place make sure the brand name is visible send the companies samples i had big outdoor companies sending freebies for years no cash but always had the best gear just keep sending the images paid for my holidays which turned into a living eventually the holidays could last 8 months 😀😀 theres loads of ways when the cash rolls in, hire an accountant once a year dog shows , i turned up at a dog show and got bombarded with requests theres tons of new stuff coming on the market from fishing gear to crash helmets find your niche and get it on its easy the equipment was payment for the first few years thousands of pounds worth of new kit every few months once used it got sold , wetsuits dry bags kayaking gear if you want freebies you can earn them with a bit of work its an endless market out there could be your hobby an interest , use your imagination if you have to buy the first bits yourself make sure the product suits the part , do your best and keep the images flowing

I did my first wedding completely by myself My client was a family friend We only discussed the price I knew I should have made a contract but I didn´t I was one of those people that relied on trust The deal was I would do all photos which included: some rehearsal shots, the pre-wedding shots, during the wedding, the after-party and they will supply an SD card (they were supposed to have one at the wedding but they forgot) and the cost would be $80 (Yes, I know super low price) I did photography for the bride once before and everything went well, but since it was my first wedding gig by myself and I knew they were going through financial issues, I figured I would cut a deal to help them out Once I was finished working on them we made the plan to meet up and made sure we were still on the same page and they agreed I handed them the Flash drive and they never gave me the payment, instead, they said that I was never clear and they didn't know to bring the payment but they will make sure they will when they had the money When I got home I had rude messages from herself and her mother Here it is almost 3 years later and I have not heard from them since brI know I am the one who messed up because I didn't have a contract and I honestly don't understand the business side of things Let's just say I haven't done any shoots since It was very discouraging and I am now scared to do it again brSorry for the long comment

Develop and having a websites requires the skills or pay web designer and domain name monthly fee at least $30 unless you can store on facebook or the cloudequipment insurance and maybe rent a studio and travel expenses in this niches Search clients and sponsors not easymust have written contract with deposit to avoid legal complications and liability This gig big undertaking from small takes to big projects if not kept simple This is under the table no benefits if freelance independent 1099 work let alone pouring into system for taxes and healthcare Working Commercial companies is better with perks in nyc or ca or floridaor toronto

Jessica, you broke things down so well! I don't follow a lot of ppl but you are so open and relatable I'm at the beginning stage of starting my photography business and my biggest challenge is just picking the right entry/mid-level camera that won't overwhelm me and that I won't outgrow too soon In the meantime I'm learning the settings and trying to get them to work is a challenge for me on my current Panasonic DMC DS60 digital camera Thanks for the great tips and insight!

Letting the client credit you on their own will is fine, as long as they at least refer you when someone asks or you know not take the credit Not a professional photographer, but I had a friend who took credit for my photo and I was pretty pissed about it

DRGIZMO29
i am the very beginner as a photographer what if it's a very small gig for like 30 dollars graduation shoot of my friend? bryou talked about pressuring clients and there are so many standards that applies to different kind of people in different country with different culturesbrbri've never had a contract with a friend with a gig that small, but should i make them sign a contract anyway? because right now i feel like making a contract with gig that small to a friend counts as a pressuring the client
