i have a debit card, the bank im with makes you setup a separate account to keep track all of the money you have to use the account to authorise purchases, so if someone was to nick my physical card, they'd have to also know my bank account password to authorise the purchase

In India (any and every bank) if you don't recognise the debit card transaction and report it in bank in 3 business days, you're not liable to any damages and will be paid full by the banks even if money is not found
