Have a few of these at home The coins from the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) are less than 400 years old to the beginning of the last century The Chinese had this style of coins for over 600 years including the Tang, Song, Ming & Qing The later ones are not as valuable and tended to be in Chinese family collectionsbrLast week went into a local museum On display were artifacts from a merchant ship sank off the coast of Java (Indonesia) over 600 years ago with the entire cargo intact Roughly 60,000 artefacts were found and bought by the Singapore government now stored in a museum There were coins with the inscription: 開元通寶 (kaiyuan tongbao) which came from the Tang Dynasty (618-907) or roughly the 7th century

Hi Sniperhead, the mint mark or Yuwan if that's what you're talking about has the dot/slash on my catalogs If you check on wwwzenoru it is a database on many Asian coins The two examples of similar coins to mine has the mint mark that is identical I'm pretty confident about this piece Cheers CP

Hi Peter, not sure what you mean If you are referring to the obverse, the right character is yuan which is fine If you are referring to the reverse, the Manchu character for board of works is complete and everything matches the info and pictures in David Jen's catalog as well as the Krause catalog I've seen enough fakes and originals in person to feel pretty confident with all three coins I don't plan on selling the 1000 cash coin anyways as I enjoy it too much

1 to 100 cash of Xian Feng period was brass issues, while 500 & 1000 cash issues were cast from copper hence the reddish/brown colour And since copper is softer than brass, it would wear more that's why no filing marks remain on the surface like with the brass 100 cash coins Perhaps the pitted surface is not so pronounced due to same reasoning
