If you are buying 1 oz of gold, always choose a coin over a bar Most stores will value 1 oz of gold the same regardless of its form, with the only difference being a higher premium for coins You pay the lowest premium per amount when you are buying 1 oz compared to a fraction of an ounce Coins go up in value over time from historical appreciation, the same can't be said for bars

Also one more thing, for my kindred spirits across the pond this point may simply be ignored but for my fellow brits please remember that bars carry capital gains tax when sold U will sell them in the shop etc and receive full payment but would legally be expected to include this as income in your tax return It’s horrid that it’s the case, if you’re paye there’s I high chance no one would ever really know etc but I’m just reiterating the facts for whom it may concern There is an allowance of 125k at the moment on this before you would pay this tax brThe maple and such coins, BUT NOT ALL COINS, carry no capital gains tax but are slightly more costly when purchased to allow for this fact So as far as the hmrc are concerned it’s swings and roundabouts brEnd fact, for long long term keeping ie for retirement buy coins because if you’re keeping them for that long you’ll have a lot of profit in them and if they were bars you would then pay tax!!!!!

A quick pointhello to everyone by the way nice to speak to you, I’m a normal guy in London who’s bought and sold a couple of times In my experience it may be a more apt arguement or case as to why a maple is preferable to a bar, for thus reason, I have never bought coins but have had many different brands of bars bought and sold and when your are selling you may have preferred to have had coins because some places will not accept or buy back certain brands eg Baird & co bullion, even tho it’s well established for decades etc, some places are just fussy It wasn’t a big problem as I just went back direct to Baird and co to sell in the end, albeit some wasted time and effort had ensued in the partaking of this procedure, but ha ho worse things happen at sea as they say , nevertheless it may have been entirely more convinient to have had coins which obviously are accepted anywhere in the world especially such a lovely coin as the maple and other beloved beauties Isn’t the maple just the most gorgeous looking coin ever!

Gold coin or bar ? Firstly the bar is fake and must be proved real versus the coin that is considered real and must be proved fake ! Secondly any extra premium for like a maple leaf or GAE is only going to be a few dollars if you choose wisely and that will even out when you go to sell if you wait like over a year or more No one should be stacking gold or silver with the intention of selling it in 9 months, PM are longer time insurances ; if your planning on selling in six months your a trader not a holder brbrbrYou will always get more for the coin in good condition but unless you aim to sell specifically i would never overpay for a slabbed / graded coin I always laugh at idiots who pay $80 for a slabbed ASE that has a 50 chance of going bad inside it holder within a few years Bullion coins are fine to hold and throw at the kids or cat etc for example to use to open a bottle of beer but non generic coins need care to keep them nicer so some dealer is more likely to just buy them and the better the coin the easier it is to sell and them more premium you will get if you choose a decent dealer Never sell to a pawn broker ! ! !
